This was my first time reading anything fantasy and was a nice introduction into the genre.

It follows Arla who works as the King assassin who is sent on a mission to find out what is happening with some missing shipments. But she doesn't get to go alone instead she is forced to take Hark; the ambassador to the neighbouring kingdom, who just also happens to be someone Arla hates.

I did enjoy the book - I thought the plot was explained well, there was good character development, and definitely twists and turns to the story

I found Arla to be a complex FMC - where there things she did and said that i hated yes - was she also only 18 and had been through alot also yes. She knows what she wants and that she is strong enough to get there and achieve it. Arla does not need anyone but herself to save her.

I did feel that things happened quickly once the plot started but I felt like nothing happened for the first 60% of the book. However Hark is a very much who hurt you kinda guy.

There was forced proximity and enemies to lovers but there wasn't as much tension as I would have liked.

I thought this was a really great debut from this author.

I unfortunately DNFed this book. I enjoyed the premise but I felt like it was not developed enough. The main character felt childish and seemed like she was trying so hard to be a ruthless assassin to the point that it felt cringy. This book gets 2 stars because it was a true enemies to lovers which I don't see a lot.

Thanks to Netgalley for this digital arc. I really wanted to love this book, but struggled to feel any chemistry between the two main characters. The story seemed to go off the rails when the dragon entered the picture. Arla and her dragon were bonded within minutes, and no relationship was built there. I didn't understand the 'hate' that existed between the two main characters either. The whole thing just felt choppy.

DNF at Chapter 8 / 20%.

Unfortunately this one ended up being really not for me, I just couldn't get into it. My main problem was that I really did not like our main character - her inner monologue was quite rude, and she was always thinking or saying negative things about the people around her, even or especially to people she doesn't know. I didn't like the way she spoke about having "earned" more than poor people because she worked hard - as if these other people don't probably work extremely hard in their day to day lives. However, I could see seeds of character development being sown for her to recognise her arrogant and callous ways, so I don't disagree with her being written this way, I simply couldn't get along with following her for these reasons. The story overall did feel a bit derivative of other fantasy romance works for me, however the plot seems like it will go in an interesting direction, and that combined with the accessible, fast-paced writing will still make this a good read for readers who enjoy Throne of Glass and When the Moon Hatched. I did also enjoy the strong female friendship we got to see between our main character and Halos, and I think the dynamic between our FMC and MMC set the stage for an enjoyable romance as well. Overall, Dragonhart is definitely not a bad book, just not one for me.

Definitely a true enemies to lovers situation! I see so many reviews talking badly about Arla's demeanor, and I just have to say, women don't have to be likeable all the time!! Especially considering she's only 18 and went through HELL at a very young age. She's been molded into who she is, and I think her character still shines despite that. I warmed up to Hark over time, especially once I realized all the good he has done for others over the years. I'm curious to see what happens next with them as well as our other side characters. This was not for me. I had high expectations.
I found most things about it unoriginal. That it was more in the form of explaining what was happening than showing and even telling did not help.

This book follows Arla Reinhart, personal assassin to the King of Hadayn and Hark Stappen, an ambassador from a rival kingdom. Together, they are sent on a mission for the King. This has my favorite trope: forced proximity, so I was really excited to request this and dive in. Also DRAGONS! Unfortunately it missed every mark for me.

First off, Arla is entirely unlikeable. She is immature, whiny, and honestly a pretty terrible assassin. When I have trouble routing for the main female character, I have a lot of trouble getting into the plot of a book. When I did try here, I was met with plot holes, lack of descriptive world building, and an unoriginal, unimaginative magic system. The romance was too fast to be believable and the romantic scenes were cringey because of it.

This read like it was meant to be contemporary, and then the author was pushed into making it Romantasy - with Gods and dragons and whatnot, so that aspect of it was taped together and flimsy. It reads like there was no real interest in fantasy and thus no development of the fantasy elements and setting. This needed more editing, more world building, more character development, more originality, more everything.

I have had to DNF, as I have struggled through this all week and I'm personally not enjoying it. The main female character is not likeable and I don't feel the connection between the her and the MMC . Im sure other will love it I'm just not .

I read about 12 chapters, I was quite excited to read this book, the plot sounded fun and the romantasy element. However, I found both Arla and Hark to be rather irritating, and trying to imagine them eventually being together was quite hard. The plot however seemed interesting with the politics and strained relationships between kingdoms, but it was in my opinion over dominated by the relationship between arla and hark. This book was not for me, but I can see a lot of people enjoying this book.

I was granted an arc of this book and I’m so glad I was! This book had heart, depth, humor, and great banter! The characters were enjoyable and showed great development through out. While the book ended nicely to be a stand alone I do hope to see more of these characters, the world, and the author. If you like strong willed stubborn FMCs, dragons, banter, and semi spicy scenes then this book is for you!

Young Throne of Glass SJM vibes. An assassin who's parents were killed in front of her by neighbouring country who were and are starving and believed that the kingdom was (and still is) hiding the dragons that can save them all by going to the God's and fleeing their cause. The FMC is angry with everything and e eryone, including herself and the MMC is pretty similar in that respect (angry with himself and his situation. It was a little predictable but certainly scratched an itch that might be there from missing ToG. Well written YA and has scope for growth.

I must be honest and say I am not a fan of romantasy but I do like dragons, which is why I requested this. I liked the strong fmc - until the romance took over. But heh. I thought the dragon element needed to be developed more for my taste especially as it features in the title. The world building was good and interesting. Overall I felt that as with so much romantasy a good fantasy premise was superseded by an obvious enemies to friends theme.
So although I appreciate this will be enjoyed by many and I didn’t have any quibbles with the writing it just didn’t grip me.

This book was absolutely delightful to read. It’s a classic romantasy with a stabby assasin who goes on a character building journey with someone she hates… (we’ve all been there) I did see some similarities to other stabby assassins but it did create a story that was unique unto itself.
Arla is a lovable yet angry FMC who struggles with dark small spaces. She has no faith in an old magic system, and ends up having more than enough proof of its existence in this fantasy that creates easy to picture kingdoms and relatable characters. I loved our dragons although they don’t appear until the very end, and I did find the pacing of the book really good, it wasn’t slow at any points and especially towards the end I was racing through the chapters. I loved the mid-book plot twist and the little surprises we learn along the way.
There were a few spelling mistakes I highlighted in my copy that I I am sure will be rectified.
This would be a 4.5 for me, but cannot give half stars here. Half a star missing due to similarities I frequently found myself noticing. I hope there is a sequel coming, I can’t wait to see what Arla and Hark get up to next!

I feel the premises and the world-building were so intriguing. But the characters wre lacking depth. Given that it's a romantasy and the character dynamics are integral to the story, and i couldn't connect to them to the level I wished to it was lower than it could have been. But I still see potential in this series so I'm definitely gonna give the next book a chance

Fantasies have my heart. They absolutely do. Give me dragons anywhere, and you've got me hooked. I started this hoping for an excellent, dragon-based romantasy, and it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

I don't feel like the FMC was written as a particularly likeable character, which I understand can be part of a character's development, however I don't think we pulled it off quite well here in redeeming her. She felt very crass and unpolished for most of the book which made it very difficult to read.

The world building was excellent, as the author was able to paint an excellent picture of a realm where magic is crumbling and political conflict is on the rise. But when it came to building the plot in this lush world, it felt a bit meandering.

Overall, I do feel like this will appeal to readers who enjoy more high fantasy, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

I've read Dragonhart by Abbie Eaton.

You can say it's in the proximity of the books of Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout with a very strong and badass FMC.

Arla is an assassin for King Cyrus and she has a hatred for the Ambassador of the rival kingdom of Kastonia, called Hark Stappen. Together they are send on a mission to secure the deliveries of "products" for Kastonia... but when they find out what it is, Kastonia is going to burn.
While this mission she connects with herself, she connects with all the things she was being lied to, and she connects also with her "enemy".

I loved the story and I pre-ordered this book when it comes out.

It's an Enemy2Lovers, badasss, assassination vibes romantasy. Definitely a 4-star read for me!

I really wanted to like this book. The blurb made it sound like my cup of tea, but unfortunately, it just fell a bit flat!
Our FMC Arla is the kings assasin and shows an arrogant persona, which can work in some instances, but she drove me mad. She acted like a child with her attitude and some of her arguments with Hark. She's meant to be a famed, deadly assassin but spends most of the story showing that her skills may be slightly lacking.
The book had potential but just missed the mark, in my opinion.

Dragonhart is the kind of fantasy that reminds me why I fell in love with reading in the first place. Epic stakes, slow-burn tension, and just the right mix of danger and heart.

Arla is sharp, vengeful, and impossible not to root for. Hark is arrogant, mysterious, and every bit her match. The enemies-to-lovers arc? Perfectly paced. The world? Gritty, magical, and full of secrets waiting to unravel.

It felt familiar in the best way, like the stories that first pulled me into fantasy. Nostalgic, yet fresh. Bold, but still tender where it counts.

This is the kind of story that stay with you.

This book fell short for me. The premise sounded great, but I never could get invested. The FMC was slightly juvenile in her responses. I kept hoping to see some growth as the book developed, but I could never really find myself liking her. The plot was a good one, but the characters just didn’t make me love them.
