The three mothers are Abby, whose daughter Isla is tragically killed in a hit and run, Nicole whose son Nathaniel has feelings of unrequited love for Isla and Jenna, whose son Callum, was Isla's boyfriend until she unexpectedly ended their relationship. Abby and Nicole are best friends, Nicole has been Abby's rock and support since her husband died five years previously. Jenna is on the periphery of the friendship group, only connected to Abby through Callum and Isla's relationship.
Right from the start it is clear the plot is full of secrets and multiple lies. Starting in the present, the story weaves back and forth between 'then' and 'now' as the author tantalisingly reveals bit by bit the events leading up to Isla's tragic death. There are multiple twists, some I saw coming and a few that appeared out of nowhere. Abby's raw emotion as she struggles to come to terms with once being a family of four (she has a younger daughter Clio) to a future as a family of three and suddenly having to contemplate life as a family of two is breathtakingly sad. Struggling to cope with her own grief, her relationship with Clio begins to fracture, adding a further dimension to this heartbreaking tale.
Three Mothers had me gripped from the outset, definitely a 'just another chapter, oh and just one more' kind of read with shocks and cleverly developed surprises. Sadly though, the outcome and finale was something of a disappointment, lacking the bombshells, drama and excellent characterisation of the rest of the story. It lacked imagination and was, for me, a very predictable ending, hence my three star rating.
With thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union publishing for my advanced reader copy in return for my honest and unbiased review

I think the book was good I don't think it was great. It felt very reminiscent of another book I read. I think there was potential but it just didn't quite get there for me.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.

This was such an addicting, twisty suspense novel that I really wish I’d read as soon as I was accepted for the arc. Thanks so much to the publisher for accepting because this was so much a fun tense thriller!
I loved that it was dual POV as you got the emotions and perspectives of all three mothers. From page 1 I felt I was hooked with thing being revealed and truths uncovered.
It was written super well and found myself constantly wanting more and I did NOT expect the twist at all. Completely shook.
Probably a 4.5 from me as at time the jumps between characters took getting used to but I devoured this within like a day!
Will be sharing a review for Instagram and Goodreads tomorrow!

Okay so I'm going to land on a 3.5 rating here. I enjoyed the book. I really enjoyed the plot and characters and how things fell apart and fell together. I do feel like the narration was trying to show the emotions of the three mothers related to the events leading and following the hit and run death of Isla. However, the mystery itself overrode that aspect of the book so that when we get to the aftermath of the story, there is almost 10% of the book remaining that just goes more in depth with the women. It was rather anticlimactic. Up until that point, it was a 4 star read, but again, anticlimactic. Overall it was an enjoyable and compelling read.

This was a fast-paced, twisty read, giving perspectives from three mothers over two timelines, leading up to a tragedy and in the aftermath. The characters were realistic whose actions were believable, particularly the parents who showed how far they would go to protect their children.

Thank you Netgalley & Lake Union Publishing for an eARC❤️
Hannah Beckerman masterfully tells the story of a tragic hit-and-run accident from multiple perspectives - the mom of the victim, Abby, her best friend Nicole, and Jenna, the mom of the victim's ex-boyfriend. Each perspective adds a new layer to the story, and by the end, you get the full picture.
What I loved about this book is how engaging it is. The chapters are short, and the writing is so good that it keeps you turning the pages. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn't put it down. I loved trying to piece together what really happened, and I had some guesses, but the ending still surprised me.😳
The author handles some really tough topics with sensitivity and depth. Grief, forgiveness, and love are all woven throughout the story, and it's clear the author put a lot of thought into exploring these themes.
One thing that stood out to me is how real the characters feel. They're not just characters on a page; they're people with their own motivations and emotions. You can feel their pain and their struggles, and it's easy to become invested in their stories.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery with complex characters and plot twists. 👍🏽

A multi-POV novel from the perspectives of three different mothers whose stories intertwine. Plenty of suspense and relatable characters with a satisfying ending. Some of it was predictable, but there was still plenty of suspense.

Who was the driver who hit Isla and ran? That's the question that hovers this novel narrated by her mother Abby, Abby's best friend Nicole, and Jenna. mother of Isla's boyfriend Callum. Three women coping with secrets and grief. This will seem familiar in spots but Beckerman does a good job with her characters. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. For your beach bag.

This book is an interesting read. I initially thought that it was going to be more twisty than it was, but in the end I was kind of disappointed with how it ended up coming to an end.
The families are easy to keep separate and follow their stories. Each family does intersect each other; the mother of the dead girl, the best friend family, and the family of the ex boyfriend. There are twists in this book and I enjoy how it jumps back to the past to show you what happened and you can view/read it for yourself vs just going off of what every other person in the story is saying.
I do think that the ending was a little rushed... there was no indication throughout the book of that person actually committing the crime. I am also not sure that the closure needed to be shared for each family, but I am glad that it did as it tied up any loose ends throughout the book and showed you where each family was and how they were coping with the situation.

Abby Richardson is still grieving the death of her husband five years ago, leaving her to bring up her two daughters, Isla and Clio alone, then tragedy strikes again when seventeen year old Isla is killed in a hit and run. Abby thought she and Isla were close but what she discovers after her death shows she never really knew her at all. Nicole is Abby's best friend, and her two sons Nathaniel and Jack grew up with Isla and Clio, but this latest tragedy is going to have far reaching consequences for husband Andrew and the two boys when the truth comes out. Jenna is Callum's mum, he goes to the same school as the others and is Isla's boyfriend, but problems in his past threaten to rear their head after the hit and run and could destroy the future Jenna is trying to secure for him.
Three Mothers is a fast paced read that had me hooked from the start, told from the perspectives of Abby, Nicole and Jenna we learn about events leading up to the hit and run and the present day and the lengths that parents will go to, to protect their children, whatever the cost or consequence. The author has created a solid plot here, with authentic characters where some of them aren't particularly nice and even the nice ones aren't always, which makes the story believable. There are some great twists in this tale and, even though I guessed who was responsible for the hit and run before it was revealed it didn't detract, in any way, from my enjoyment of the story which I devoured in one sitting. This is a compelling read from a new to me author which I highly recommend and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I'd like to thank Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
On one Friday night, the lives of three mothers, Abby, Nicole, and Jenna, are changed forever when a tragic event occurs. In the aftermath, each must tackle the difficult question, 'How well do I know my children?"
I am giving this a 3-star because I read it in one sitting. It had the formula to keep me turning the pages. I would say that Jenna and her son, Callum, intrigued me the most. I hope Aby and Nicole consider therapy for themselves and their children in their fictional world. That said, I am a seasoned veteran of this genre and could see all the plot twists coming a mile away. The second half was very repetitious. No big surprises or twists.
I do think if you have been in a reading slump or will be on a plane, this is a good book to keep you reading.

Thanks netgalley and Hannah Beckerham for this most amazing and emotional book, found it difficult to put down. Am giving this review on Mother’s Day so even more poignant .
Three mothers two of them. Best friends, and one who comes from a different. Life style but is still connected to them with her son.
Abby thought Nicole was her best friend, helping her when her husband died and always there for her.
Never thinking that would ever change.
The third mother was Jenna having a different lifestyle and struggling on her own, but was determined to give her son every opportunity to do well at the exclusive school he goes to having won a scholarship.
Isla Abby’s daughter was a brilliant student and did everything correct, until she met someone and this would. Change the life of all three. Others.
Thanks again for this amazing book, and cannot wait until the next one from this author.

I absolutely love Hannah Beckerman’s novels and Three Mothers was no exception. The three mothers are Abby, whose 17 year old daughter Isla is killed in a hit and run, Nicole, Abby’s best friend and Jenna, the mother of Connor, Isla’s ex boyfriend. The novel is told from all three points of view and moves between the weeks before and after Isla’s death.
The author is so skilled at writing family dramas, I was drawn into the lives of each family and I felt that the character of Isla was portrayed with real understanding of life as a teenage girl. Beckerman plots this novel so well and allows the reader to slowly build up a picture of Isla’s life and death. It’s an emotional and thought provoking read that I was completely immersed in over the course of 24 hours.
Recommended. 4.5 stars.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and @LakeUnionPub for this ARC. Abby's daughter Isla is late from a party and she isn't answering her texts. Nicole's son Nathaniel is home early from the same party but looks like he is lying about his whereabouts. Jenna's son Callum also comes home early but with a scratch on his face that he can't explain. Abby answers the door to two policeman telling her that Isla was killed in a hit and run. The investigation opens up a lot of secrets from all three mothers. I figured this one out but it was still a good read! #ThreeMothers #HannahBeckerman #LakeUnionPub #May2025

This is my first Hannah Beckerman novel and I look forward to reading more of her work. I love a good domestic suspense/thriller and this was no exception. It was intriguing and kept me thinking about all the characters and how all their choices affected the outcome of the story. I am not a mother but still I felt so much for the three different mothers and was able to empathize with their stories and how they would each make different choices based on their children and protecting them. Had some good twists towards the end. Give this one a read !
Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the digital arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Three mothers: Abby, whose daughter Isla is killed in a tragic hit and run. Nicole, Abby's best friend whose son Nathaniel has long had feelings for Isla. Jenna, mother of Callum, Isla's ex-boyfriend. Through multiple perspectives, the truth behind Isla's death is revealed.
I was hooked on this book from the first chapter, zipping through the whole thing in a day. The shorter chapters, and multiple perspectives and timelines kept things interesting. I had multiple guesses at what happened, but the ending was unpredictable and satisfying. This was a tough read at times with several sensitive topics, but I enjoyed the themes of forgiveness and love. This was my second read by this author and will definitely look forward to more.

Book Review: Three Mothers by Hannah Beckerman
Plot:
When seventeen-year-old Isla dies in a tragic hit-and-run, her mother, Abby, is left shattered. Still grieving a past loss, she begins to uncover secrets about her daughter that make her question everything. Meanwhile, her best friend Nicole is dealing with the fallout of that night, and Jenna, another mother, fears that Isla’s death will bring her own secrets to light. This is a story about love, loss, and the lengths mothers will go to protect their children.
Characters:
The strongest part of this book for me was the characters. Each woman’s perspective was distinct, and I loved seeing their lives unfold through their eyes. Their emotions felt real, and their struggles were easy to connect with.
Writing Style:
The writing was incredibly fluent and easy to read, making this a book I flew through. The different perspectives kept things engaging, and the pacing was strong. However, at times, the plot felt a little predictable. If it hadn’t been for the well-developed characters, it might have fallen a bit flat.
Overall Thoughts:
Despite some predictable moments, Three Mothers is an emotional and compelling read about motherhood, friendship, and the weight of secrets. If you love character-driven stories with multiple perspectives, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Isla is unexpectedly killed and her mother is trying to come to terms with her loss. She starts going through Islas things and she discovers secrets that make her question her relationship with the people closest to her.
As a mother I expected to connect with the characters. I thought the beginning of the book was as interesting but the second half dragged and became repetitive. I thought this book had a lot of potential but the character development of the three mothers was lacking. I ended up skimming the end to find out what happened but I didn’t love this one.
Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book.

A page turning domestic suspense novel with great characters and even better twists. Heartbreaking and heart racing all at the same time.

Thanks to net galley and the publishers for a free ecopy in exchange for a review
Like the title suggests this book follows three mothers of teenagers who become caught up in the aftermath of a hit and run of one of the children following a house party.
I liked that the different chapters were told from different characters POV to build up the storyline and what actually happened and why.
The book is full of secrets and lies and explores families, adolescence and how far you would go to protect your children and reputation.
I enjoyed reading this book and will be recommending to others
