This novel is brilliant! The Ffion Morgan series feels like the new Will Trent - a series of crime novels with an engaging, romantic relationship at the heart of it.

I immediately bought the previous two Ffion Morgan novels after finishing this one, and they were both great too.

Other People's Houses focuses on a spate of burglaries taking place on The Hill - a swanky, elite neighbourhood. But strangely, obvious things that a thief would take remain in the homes, raising the question of what the burglar is actually looking for.

The book picks up on relationships that were introduced in the previous two books, but you really don't need to have read them first to enjoy this one.

DS Leo Brady, of Cheshire police, is investigating the burglaries along with DC Ffion Morgan from Wales. They are in a relationship that seems genuinely equal and positive - except maybe for Ffion's reluctance to give much in terms of commitment. Along the course of investigating the burglaries, Leo has to encounter his ex-wife Allie, She is such a great character! Allie is absolutely desperate to fit in with The Hill lot, almost stalking them in her desire to be part of 'the club'.

She lives with her new partner Dominic, and her and Leo's son, at the bottom of the Hill, but likes to think that a path connecting her to it means she's actually living on The Hill. It's sad to watch her repeated failed attempts to ingratiate herself with the snobs. She's a good, complex character because she generates conflicted feelings.

We sympathise with her (or I did) because she's obviously unhappy with herself, but her attempts to ruin Leo and Ffion's relationship, and turn Felix against Ffion, make us despise her, too. I'm sure we have people in our own lives that feel very similar to Allie.

The mystery of who is committing the burglaries develops to a very good surprise, which I didn't see coming, and the author sets up possible suspects well. But the driving force making me want to keep reading was the characters and relationships.

I would highly recommend this book, especially for anyone who has read and enjoyed Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. Thanks to Netgalley for introducing me to a new favourite author!

Detective Story #3”
A good 3rd story in a series. It’s a standard take of the described life interwoven with a crime. Solid. Good beach read.

Other People’s Houses is a smart and polished entry in the DC Morgan series: a winner if you enjoy intelligent police procedurals with emotional stakes, small-town secrets, and humor sprinkled among the darkness. It’s fast-paced and satisfying, with just a touch of melodrama in one twist—but overall, a compelling and deeply enjoyable read.

There were lots of twists and turns in this, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I really enjoyed this story

This is a great series, I especially love the relationship between Ffion and Leo. They have such a great partnership, in every way. This story had quite a lot of suspense but to be honest the case paled into insignificance beside the antics of Leo's social climbing ex-wife. Picturing her try to ingratiate herself with the residents of "The Hill" was hilarious if a little sad. She should have her own "reality" show.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

You want what they have. But what price would you pay?

The Hill is the exclusive estate where everyone dreams to live except once the houses start being broken in to is it really all it seems? This isn’t just a random spate of burglaries, this is someone looking for something and they won’t stop until they find it.

I raced through this book and really enjoyed it. Story line was great but I enjoyed the development of the main character even more. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series already. Thanks to @netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Although this isn’t the 1st book featuring Fion and her partner Leo, it is the 1st one I’ve read.
This wasn’t an issue, I was able to pick it up amd understand their relationship.
Fionn is a DC, in the Welsh police and is currently investigating a body found in a canoe.
Her boyfriend Leo, is a DS, placed just over the border in Cheshire, investigating a series of burglaries on the prestigious “Hill”.

Meanwhile a cold case is also being investigated. Are the 3 cases somehow linked?

We explore the relationship between the characters, both main and smaller parts, as we delve deeper into all 3 investigations and reach a dramatic conclusion.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and getting to know the characters, I am now keen to go back and read the 2 I’ve missed as well as reading more to come.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title

I love this series and this one didn’t disappoint. 2 complex cases and back with Ffion and Leo it was a great read. It seems to be open for more in the series too which is great in my opinion. Would highly recommend

Wow - what a page turner! This was the second Claire Mackintosh book I have read and she does not disappoint. I didn't realise until I finished reading that this is the third book starring Ffion but as I realised, you do not need to have read the others to read this one - although I will be definitely going back to those at some point!

So Ffion and Leo are a couple both working for the police force, but across the English/Welsh border. It begins with the murder of an estate agent on a work weekend away in Wales with colleagues, but turns into a whole lot more than that!

With Ffion investigating the murder in Wales, Leo is working on 'The Hill', trying to solve a number of break ins. These break ins soon turn into something worse, when a teenager is badly injured. While at first appearing to be very different cases, there are lots of potential links between the two and Leo and Ffion have to start working together to unravel the mysteries. Just to throw a spanner in the works, Leo's ex wife lives at the bottom of the hill but has high aspirations of buying a property there and joining this glamorous community. The writing is so good when it comes to this part of the story, I was literally squirming with embarrassment at what goes on!

This was a fab thriller in every way - interesting and well written characters, unpredictably twists and fast-paced. I read a lot of thrillers and pride myself on sometimes predicting at least some of the plot twists - but this one just kept me guessing!

Clare Mac never fails! And this is no exception. Another brilliant read, likeable characters, a convincing plot.

I thought I had read a book from this series before but I was mistaken. It didn’t cause me any issues though, I had no problem getting to know enough about Fionn, her partner Leo and Dave the dog to enjoy this book a lot. And I’m happy that I now have the previous books in the series to catch up on.
With both of them being police officers it’s difficult for them to switch off at home, Fionn is investigating the death of an estate agent who drowned in a kayak on a booze filled weekend with work colleagues. Leo is investigating a series of burglaries that have become more violent in a gated community. A community that had been investigated previously for murder with that investigation featuring on a podcast. Both struggle, Ffion isn’t the biggest fan of estate agents after issues with buying a house and Leo’s ex wife and social climber Allie is also causing issues.
The reader gets to see the view of the story from three different characters. Ffion and Leo, understandably but also Allie. I really liked seeing how three handled the situation. Allie was a character who I loved to hate, the way she was with Ffion but more so for her obsession with those she considered her friends. At times I felt sorry for her, especially when she became increasingly aware that she was unwanted and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her cope, or otherwise, with Leo and Ffion’s relationship.
Both investigations gripped me, it felt strange but clever the way they connected but it worked well. The characters, even the victims, were grotesque and I felt like I was reading with gritted teeth, which added to my enjoyment. I appreciated the frustration that Leo felt, especially with Ffion’s obsession with the cold case and the possible connection to his current one.
I don’t often read a series out of order, I’m happy that I can read the earlier books while waiting for the next because I loved Ffion and Leo. They were like a breath of fresh air.

I loved this! My first Ffion Morgan story and definitely won't be the last - whilst you can read this as a standalone book as I did, I'll be going bank to the others to see what else I've missed in her life. The little spots of Cymraeg scattered throughout are great, even if you have very little knowledge of the Welsh language (like me) it really adds to the authentic feel of the place. There is so much commentary in this about social class and where people see themselves within it, the haves who don't need to try to hard, and the social climbers who always get it slightly wrong. A great entertaining read!

Other People’s Houses is a gripping police procedural that had me hooked from the very first page! Clare Mackintosh has crafted a brilliantly engaging story that keeps readers thoroughly entertained from start to finish. The narrative is filled with moments of humour, heartfelt drama, and unexpected twists that keep you guessing at every turn, with each chapter unveiling new clues and keeping you guessing until the very end.

The characters are well-developed, especially the investigators who are both relatable and compelling. Their personal struggles and professional determination add depth to the story, making you care not only about solving the case but about the people involved. The pacing is spot-on, and the suspense builds naturally, making this a true page-turner.

If you’re a fan of police procedurals that balance sharp investigative work with strong character development, Other People’s Houses is an absolute must-read. I couldn’t put it down and highly recommend it!

My thanks to Little, Brown Books Group and NetGalley for a copy of “ Other People’s Houses” for an honest review.

I’ve loved Claire Macintosh’s previous books and this latest publication definitely didn’t disappoint.
I particularly like the Dc Ffion Morgan series of books and the beautiful setting of Wales.I think this was the best in the of the three , so far. I sometimes struggle with too many characters , but these were so well written that I had no problem keeping up at all .The book was humorous and suspenseful and it kept me guessing right to the end.
Clare’s books are so readable , and relatable and stand out in a crowded market .
I can’t wait to see what happens next !

Ffion Morgan is back again to solve the case of a body found in a kayak on the lake. Alongside Leo is investigating a series of break ins in an elite neighborhood. While they both try to figure out where they stand with each other in their relationship.

I love this series Ffion and Leo are brilliant characters and I love their relationship growth from the first book. The twists in this book I had no idea what to expect next and everything came together so well. Would definitely recommend this series. (Also I would advise to read them in order to get the relationship development between the characters)

Thank you to Netgalley, Little Brown Book Group and Claire Macintosh for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank Netgalley for approving me for an ARC of this book.

I've enjoyed this series since the start and couldn't wait to dive into the final book. Clare Mackintosh delivers on twists, turns, red herrings and suspicious characters. Making this a great conclusion to the series.

I particularly liked that Ffion and Leo had different cases to work on, even though we knew they'd link up eventually I enjoyed seeing the cases unravel. It was also good to see their relationship being thrown into the story more.

I can't wait to see what Clare writes next, until then I have a nice list of her previous books to work my way through.

Another great read by Clare - the third one in this series. I loved it . Highly recommended

Such promise - I loved the character development and the story showed real potential.
But the ex wife was such a heavy clumsy character that it jarred the story and was out of place, for me.
The wrap up of the ending felt a bit rushed too.
Ok but not as good as it could be.

This is the third book in this detective series and continues the story of Ffion and Leo, in their slightly complicated romance. Adding his ex wife as a fairly dislikable main character in the mystery was a nice touch as it wove the stories together. Having their respective police cases woven together further made it a really intriguing read, although for me it got a bit too complicated at one point to remember who was who and why they were important.
The author has said there are only three books planned for these characters but I hope she changes her mind.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in return for a review.
