I stumbled upon this series quite randomly and really liked the people and the writing style. The style feels a little more than the cover gives it credit for ( or so I feel). One thing was the lead protagonist keeps using ‘special words’ from languages around the world and I found them intriguing and never verified them. This time there was one telugu word which I am pretty sure doesn’t exist because I couldn’t find anyone I know who made sense of the word. There was a Kannada word which looked more plausible. This left me wondering how many of the admirable segues using words from random languages since the first book that I admired did not actually exist!
That is a very minor part of our Red Queen’s style of survival. She has had it tough, but this book amps up the situation by several degrees. We finally know the answer to certain pending questions as well as answers to questions we didn’t even know we had.
I really enjoyed the series, although it is almost the wrong word to use thanks to all the death and trauma.
I will not be going into any of the details of the book because it is only a piece of good narration without the history that we have built already. Some things are explained, but the impact is better when the reader has built up a certain level of understanding or anticipation regarding the people and events.
I highly recommend this book and series to fans of almost -quirky thrillers which are quite dark.
I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience and the random word apparently from my mother tongue that popped into the story

Picking up where the the last novel ended we are immediately drawn into the action with Antonia searching for John after his kidnapping.
Action packed and continuing the fast paced thriller with Antonia searching for her shadowy foe. This was gripping and thrilling and I couldn't put the book down! 5 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review.

The White King was a great conclusion to this trilogy. We pick up immediately from where Black Wolf finished off, with Jon having been kidnapped and Antonia on a mission to rescue him. The final book answers all the questions that have arisen over the course of the trilogy, with lots of twists and turns right up until the very end.
I really enjoy the imagery Gomez-Jurado uses in his writing: “The shock gives her another free tour of the most interesting parts of her psyche. In an open-topped double-decker bus. It goes around the Confusion traffic circle, the monument to Rage, and Betrayal Square. The bus is filled with the people in her life, all looking about and pointing, taking selfies.”
However, my favourite thing about this series is the characters. Within a short space of time, I’ve become very attached to the fictional duet of Antonia and Jon (Jon in particular) and I would love to see them crop up in other books by this author. Definitely a trilogy I would recommend to any fans of crime thrillers.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC of this book.

Awesome. The finale to Juan Gomez-Jurado’s Red Queen trilogy lives up to all expectations. I finished this one in the space of 24 hours.
Like its predecessors, it’s a thriller packed with non-stop action, and twists and turns that hurl themselves at you with breakneck speed, surpassed only by the velocity of Antonia Scott’s brainpower.
Everything and everyone she knows and loves is under threat over the course of this novel, and not all of them will make it to the end.
Five glowing stars from me with thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for a chance to read an ARC.
White King released in the UK on 13 March.

White King concludes Spanish crime author Juan Gómez-Jurado’s the popular trilogy featuring Antonia Scott, which was adapted for television in Amazon’s Red Queen series last year. Is it a goodbye the brilliant but asocial investigator and her witty sidekick, Jon Gutiérrez?

What a thrilling finale. I was absolutely gripped. Have loved the whole series each equally as brilliant.

I have been a fan of the Andrea Scott series for a while, and was eagerly awaiting the third and final book!
I can say, it does not disappoint! We see Andrea finally coming face to face with her nemesis, Mr White. The book had a lot of twists I was not expecting and really kept me on the edge of my seat

The story moves at breakneck speed, high stakes noir set in Madrid with a literal ticking bomb.
Enjoyed reading this book with lots of twists and inteigue. There is a little bit of head hopping but once I got used to that I got really immersed in the plot.
Antonia's mind is fascinating to read about. The challenges in this book were very interesting. I am not sure how I feel about the climax, perhaps I would have liked a bit more clarification/explanation about the connection behind the historic crimes and everything else that happened to Antonia.

I enjoyed Juan Gómez-Jurado's Red Queen so I was anticipating this book, It held up to my expectations and had me hooked as the first book did, it brought me back into the world of danger and intensity.

Antonia and Inspector Gutierrez have been my favourite book characters in years and after three books I feel quite attached to them almost as friends. This series has been magnificent and enhanced by the wonderful thoughtful translation into English. Often I find that foreign language books lose something in the translation, not so this series, it feels natural and flowing. The series has been such an enjoyable roller coaster. When I have time, I will read this series again just for the joy of it.
