Different in feel from the other books I've read by this author, her usual gently witty and humorous tone is very much turned down and a much more serious voice is evident. Perhaps, this is largely due to the subject matter of addiction, not a topic to be taken lightly but one which the author deals with in an engrossing, sensitive and eye-opening manner. An honest, uncomfortable but ultimately hopeful novel by a brilliant author.
