At first I struggled to become engaged with the story and I found Lila's chaotic lifestyle rather irritating but as the story progressed I became completely involved with the characters and rather more understanding of Lila's problems. The dialogue is excellent with a perfect mix of pathos and humour and the story flows along at a perfect pace.

Jojo Moyes dies not lose her touch when it comes to writing. A really fantastic family story with wonderful characters who grab you from the beginning.

Another brilliant, sure to be bestseller from Jojo Moyes! A beautiful story with some wonderfully deep characters, even though touching on some difficult topics it was an absolute joy to read! Highly recommended! Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers for my ARC

Three and a half stars.
Lila is NOT keeping it together. After writing a best-seller about keeping your marriage alive, her husband left her for a bendy yoga mummy, then her beloved mother died and her step-father Bill has to all intents and purposes moved in and insists on cooking the girls 'healthy' meals which consist predominantly of lentils. Lila is dealing with Celie, a moody teenager, and Violet, a poo-obsessed nine-year old, she's overdue on delivering anything for her next book, the ancient plumbing in their fixer-upper Victorian house requires unblocking on an almost daily basis as well as the on-call services of an expensive plumber, and to add insult to injury Lila is forced to see 'the other woman' every day when she picks up her youngest from school. Oh, and her dog's barking is provoking numerous complaints from her neighbours.
Just when she thinks it can't get any worse, her American father Gene turns up after 35 years, broke and looking for somewhere to stay. Gene and Bill loathe each other and the house becomes a warzone as the two old men niggle at each other. Oh, and Bill has taken it upon himself to engage a landscape gardener to transform Lila's admittedly overrun garden turning it into a Somme-like swamp in the interim.
But annoying as he is, Gene could be the catalyst for change the family needs.
This was my first book by Jojo Moyes, although I have heard her name many times before, and I did enjoy reading it, but I have to say I have read very similar books before and I didn't think this brought anything new to the table.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

I love this author and was thoroughly invested in this multigenerational story from the start and the eclectic mix of characters and the dynamics of them all coming together under the same roof as a blended family.
This was a rollercoaster of an emotional read covering a lot of sensitive topics such as divorce death and grief and had lots of moments that were quite sad and others that were quite funny and made me laugh out loud.
A perfect family drama that draws you in from the outset and I read in almost one sitting. Look foreword to seeing what this author writes next.

Jojo Moyes latest book certainly lives up to the high expectations I had. You become immersed in single Mum Lila’s unconventional family and experience all the highs and lows. I found myself cringing with embarrassment for her at some points and cheering her on at others. I thoroughly recommend adding this entertaining story to your must read list.

This was an understated joy of a read featuring an increasingly unconventional household that just felt so very real. Told primarily from the perspective of Lila a single mum of two daughters who is still coming to terms with the end of her marriage and the death of her mum. She’s supported by her grieving stepdad but then her estranged dad turns up on her doorstep adding to the household chaos. This is such an incredible character read with so much you can relate to even if her life is so different to your own, she just feels like someone you know or a part of you somehow. She has so much to contend with just day to day and the realities of modern day dating were also an added feature. This just got under my skin with the everyday drama, the emotions and also the joy that runs through it, I loved the characters and just the pure everyday-ness of this wonderful multigenerational family drama.

Jojo Moyes is one of my absolute favorites! I love loved her work very since Me Before You. I think her books are very well written and I live the dynamic of this book. It’s a bit different from her previous but very good nonetheless
