I received a free copy of, A Cornish Legacy, by Fern Britton, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Delia has inherited a house from her ex, after he passed away. This book goes back and forth, it does not stay in present time. This book is about secrets, new beginnings, and starting over, its a good read.

I absolutely love Fern's stories and this one was superb, full of hope, love, betrayal, friendships back to love and happiness, I really hope we get to visit Wilder Hoo again to see how everyone is getting on, not forgetting the wonderful Mrs. Constance Joy, bravo!

Fern is a great author and she does not disappoint with this book, set in Cornwall and written over two timelines. Wilder hoo is a mansion that gets left to an unsuspecting heiress.

My thanks to Netgalley and publishers Harper Collins for an ARC of this book, which I requested because Fern Britton has always been one of a very small group of writers that I will turn to when I want something very light, uncomplicated, and entertaining. I#ve read most of her books and she never fails.
But this time I was disappointed. She used the idea of the large inherited country house/estate and the telling of the present day story intertleaved with the back story of her main character. Both, I feel, have been overdone in novels in recent years, but both are main parts of the story here. I'm afraid that my reaction was, "Not again ! " And if you really start to analise the story, there are frequent holes in it.
But it is set in the author's beloved Cornwall and peppered with some lovely descriptions of weather and countryside, which you know are authentic. This was, as ever, an enjoyable, escapist read if you are prepared to put your mind into neutral.

I’ve enjoyed Fern Britton’s books in the past and this is another highly enjoyable read. The main character, Delia has suffered many losses beginning with her mother in childhood and ending with her career and trust. She unexpectedly inherits a crumbling Cornish Manor House and is determined to sell as soon as possible but needs to improve its condition to sell. With the input of memorable characters Delia puts both herself and the house back together. A story of love, friendship and community set in glorious Cornwall, I highly recommend.this an excellent summer read.

A wonderful book about a Cornish house and the effect it has on the people around it. Told over several timelines and with a hint of magic the story gradually unfolds with a gentle hint of romance but aided by a strong woman who definitely knows her worth. Some wonderful characters.

I love anything by Fern and would sell my soul every time for an early copy so I was so happy to be granted early access. The setting, the characters, quite simply everything was divine about this book. A privilege to read and will sell itself b

Beautiful book with glorious descriptions of Cornish towns, beaches and houses not least Wilder Hoo!
The rather strange mansion that at the start of the book Delia is introduced to by the young man she has become obsessed with.
But wait. I have jumped forward too much Delia is a young qirl who lives alone on a small holding with her mum Christine and her aunt Rose they have sheep, chicken few pigs and other odd animals. Delia has been told her dad is working away on business as when he found out her mum was pregnant he decided he didn’t want anything to do with the baby- this is a lie that will come back to haunt Rose after. Unfortunately Delia mum had an accident on the farm whilst Delia was working as hairdresser by the time she got home Rose had called an ambulance and it was clear that Christine had had a stroke at the hospital they rushed her into theatre to remove the clot but by the time she came back to the ward she had passed away. Delia was devastated but threw herself into work she had now graduated to working in a London salon and came runner up in national hairdresser of the year competition, she met a guy called Johnny who she quickly fell for he seemed to want to look after her and take care of her and look after everything which made her life easier. But Johnny also had a darker side and could be controlling and violent as Delia found out to her dismay but she was too far in by then almost married to him he took her to his family home down in Cornwall - where she is from and to meet his obnoxious parents his rake thin mother who doesn’t eat a thing but necks gin like it’s going out of fashion and his father sees her as a cash machine telling her his Spanish deal is about to come off and pay out - never does!
He got worse after they were married but Delia refused to go to her aunt Rose who had moved to a new retirement village and desperately wanted to see Delia but Delia was turning into a recluse
Until her best friend Sammi turned up and said what is going on on he found her drunk and begging him to go buy more he was shocked by the state of her. You aren’t working he said what’s happening?
Everything she screamed at him !, Johnny is dead oh my god why didn’t you tell me he replied and with that Delia dissolved into tears she had been holding since she heard the news
Sammi just held her wondering what to do next ?

I love the author’s Cornish books. She is so good at describing the countryside in all its moods, bringing it to life.
This is a book of ultimate second chances.Delia has had a difficult life, as we learn, and has lost everything - immediate family, husband, girlfriends and with the strain of it, her job as well. To cap it all, her ex-husband died and left her a crumbling but beautiful Manor house in Cornwall where she was at her unhappiest and she cannot wait to sell it.
It is ,of course, not that simple, too much needs doing before that and it seems the house is a money pit beyond her capabilities. However with local help rallying round she makes headway and falls in love with the house. I love how it comes back to life in the second half of the book. Lovely characters drawn too, a real feel good story as she finds new friends, builders to help with the house, a gardener to recreate the knot garden and a housekeeper who is always there when needed. A lovely absorbing read.

A Cornish Legacy by Fern Britton

A perfect feel-good read.

There’s everything to love in this book: the Cornish setting, the premise that both the crumbling manor house and the main characters need nurturing, together with the premise that, like a garden or rooms that have been left to go to ruin, this healing will bring ever-after happiness.

A book of two distinct halves: the backstories slowly emerge in the first half to be addressed and sorted in the second. A tale of renewal, though, for me, the story did seem to follow a rather well-trodden path.

My thanks to Harper Collins and Netgalley for the chance to read and review this book.

I always look forward to reading Fern's books and always enjoy them. This one was slightly different to her usual but, no less enjoyable. It had a ghostly feel to it and I raced through it. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Fern Britton just gets better and better. I was totally transported to her beloved Cornwall. Her love of the county is evident in her writing. This book had a bit of everything, in fact it feels as if you get two books for the price of one as the first part of the book would be good enough on its own, then you get part two ! The writing style sucked me in from page one and had me siting down with my kindle at every opportunity to continue , even if only for a few pages. Fern is a great story teller and you can lose time so easily in her books. The house felt like a living, breathing entity. The characters were very well drawn and the relationships portrayed perfectly plus there was a bit of Cornish magic! I would say that the ending was a bit rushed in my opinion in comparison to the rest of the book and I felt that there could have been more added, but I loved it and eagerly await the author’s next piece of Cornwall!

I loved Fern’s early books so much, rugged Cornish Men who you fell in love with. Her later books I seemed to have fallen out of love with so she had gone off my watch list. When I was given a copy of this to read. I thought, what have I got to lose apart from a few hours. How wrong was I. Fern you are back with a loud bang. Loved, loved, loved this book so much. Cordelia Jago returned to her beloved Cornwall from London and learnt to fall in love with it all over again. Beautifully written, gorgeous characters who were brought to life. A handsome gardener, an eligible bachelor, a gay best friend, a beloved Aunt, Cornish scenery and delicious food. What more could you want. Thank you Fern.

Fern Britton’s love of Cornwall shines through in her novels and this one is no exception. We meet Cordelia Jago who has inherited a crumbling Cornish Manor House , Wilder Ho. It holds a lot of unpleasant memories for her and her initial thought is to put it on the market immediately.

Sprucing up the rooms for a resale she finds herself questioning her decision. The old house seems to cast a spell on her. Aided by a wonderful cast of friends she finds peace and love within the walls and a contentment which had previously eluded her.

The wonderful setting and fantastic characters in the book kept me reading. This book is filled with hope, new beginnings, love and friendship. Overall a gentle, heartwarming read .

If nothing else, Ms Britton knows Cornwall really well! Lovely setting.

I’m a big fan of Fern Britten books and was very excited to receive an advance copy of this one. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
The story is set in Cornwall and is about an old house, which is in disrepair after having an illustrious past with visits from royalty. The house has feelings and also a magical housekeeper in the form of Mrs Joy who appears when needed and works little miracles. It’s also a love story and has some fabulous characters who the reader really cares about.
It’s lovely to read about the house and gardens being restored to their former glory and our heroine finding love after some difficult times.

This is a lovely story with different elements going on throughout. I really enjoyed it however did feel a little let down by the ending as it could have been a bit more in my opinion.
