I'm trying to get caught up on my reviews for Netgalley (where I got my copy in exchange for my honest review). I got this book in 2014 and just read it now in Jan. 2021. I had not read the two previous books in the series, but while two characters pop up and a couple more are mentioned it made no difference.
Definitely heavier on the rather sweet romance than the mystery/paranormal happenings. It was a nice, quick and relatively fluffy despite a death in the past and an abusive situation. The abusive situation, like a couple of other elements, is glossed over and/or dropped which I think is disservice to the topic and readers. Hated the Spider nickname (#1 you don't give yourself a nickname) and how the author flipped back and forth between it and Emma.
The end of the book sets up a series spin off/new direction which sounded more suspense oriented and left me intrigued to find out more about it. Unfortunately, the author doesn't seem to have continued with the idea.
