As someone who has always enjoyed Jensen’s work, I found The Liar to be both familiar and refreshingly different. This newest release thrives on her signature blend of emotional depth and psychological suspense, with short, sharp chapters and cliff-edge reveals that make it hard to put down. What sets it apart, though, is its focus on family fractures, reminding me of The Family, but with even sharper pacing and a more claustrophobic feeling. Jenson digs deeper into how lies passed down through generations can be just as destructive as those told in the moment.

The twists are both expected and deliciously unexpected. You think you see the pattern forming, only to be blindsided by revelations you didn’t see coming. And yet, what lingers after the shocks fade is the emotional weight: guilt, regret, and the fragile nature of trust. That rare mix of gripping and absorbing storytelling with a strong human core is exactly why Jensen’s books resonate.

If I’m giving this four stars rather than five, it’s only because certain plot turns lean a little toward the melodramatic, and the ending could have offered more clarity. But honestly, these are minor quibbles in a thriller that otherwise excels at delivering unrelenting suspense.

I don’t really know how to start this review as I have mixed feelings on it.
I felt it started really well but I think I really struggled to bond with the characters which hindered how I felt about what was going on. For some reason, I also struggled to keep track of what was going on and who was who.
I’ve loved this authors thrillers previously but this one didn’t give me the wow factor her other ones have.

The Abbott family have decided to take in a lodger after Camilla and her young son Mason move out. Luke hasn't told them much about himself but he seems overly interested in them and their lives. When mum, Mel messages saying she needs a break daughters Amy and Jen think it's strange since she's never gone away alone before and when nobody hears from her after a few days their anxiety heightens. But the Abbotts house is full of secrets and the lies are about to be exposed.

This was such a fast paced read that I read it in one sitting. I was gripped from the first page with no idea where this was going to go and I didn't expect the twist at the end. This weaves the past and present and has multiple povs. The characters were very well written and I could understand why some of them did what they did. I'll be picking up more by this author. Highly recommend.

Having read one of Louise Jensen’s books before and being completely captivated, I had high hopes for The Liar and I’m happy to say, it did not disappoint. From the very first page, I was hooked. This book is incredibly addictive; I ended up devouring the book in one sitting.

At first, I wasn’t quite sure where the story was heading. The early chapters focused heavily on family drama, and while I had a vague idea of how things might unfold, I was quickly proven wrong. The plot twists kept me on my toes, and just when I thought I had figured things out, Louise threw in another curveball.

What I loved most were the layers of secrets, lies, and mystery woven through the narrative. Each reveal was more shocking than the last, and the emotional depth added a compelling richness to the story. The Liar is not just a thriller- it’s a deep dive into trust, betrayal, and the fragile nature of truth.

Playing happy families

Tolstoy said, ‘All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.’ On the surface, the Abbots appear to be an outrageously happy and supportive family: mum Mel is a dedicated social worker, daughters Jenny and Amy with an appreciable age gap between them, and their lovely lodger Camilla and her little boy Mason. When Camilla moves out, Mel decides to take in a new lodger, Luke, who turns up when Mel’s out for the house. It’s up to Jen to welcome him in, until her mum gets back; only Mel doesn’t return and her text messages are cryptic, to say the least. And then things in the house keep being disturbed, as if someone’s rifling through everything.

In this hurtling thriller of a novel, everyone has a secret. Despite every character being street-level and domestic, the secrets and lies, the mysteries and twists keep coming until you can hardly believe that this book started anywhere near where it actually did. Jensen gives us beautifully written characters who are each unreliable in their own way, and revelations layer up to ramp up the tension to the very last.

The Liar is a psychological thriller that hooks you from the first chapter and doesn’t let go. With layered secrets, tense relationships, and a steadily building sense of dread, this book kept me second-guessing everyone and everything. 👀

Just when I thought I had it figured out—nope. Another twist. Louise Jensen does such a great job of peeling back the truth slowly, and by the end? I was floored.

Thanks to Louise Jenson and NetGalley for the early access to this now-released title. I’m so glad I got to read it before spoilers started flying! Highly recommend if you’re into domestic thrillers that make you question every character’s motive.

Thank you Netgalley, Louise Jenson and HQ for the eArc of The Liar.

Having read a few of Louise's books, I've always really enjoyed her writing style and The Liar is no exception. The Liar has complex well built characters, some great foreshadowing and twists. All wrapped up in a compelling medium paced plot line. I had the pleasure of both reading the book and listening to the audiobook on the go because I didn't want to put it down while going out for a walk. So ended up binging this one in a day!

Helen Keeley who narrated this book, did a grand job as her voice really suited both the pacing and the psychological elements of this page turner.

First of all thank you for approving my request!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The authors writing style had me hooked throughout this book.

I didn't want it to end, a book I really couldn't put down.

I didn’t love this one as much as Louise’s last book however it was still a rollercoaster of twists and turns which I throughly enjoyed. I thought I had the twist figured out but I was definitely surprised when there were multiple twists. This book is the definition of a page turner.

This is a book im definitely glad I read, theres many “OMG” moments when a twist smacks you in the face and the storyline was one that hasn’t been overused and was believable, brutal and shocking.

Mel and her two daughters are your average little family, but when Mel goes missing, a lodger that she had pre arranged moves in and it leaves the girls wondering if he is who he says he is as their worry increases about their mum.

Multiple point of views cleverly combine to tell us the story of many secrets and lies that have snowballed to the point where the end is catastrophic.

Many thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for my gifted eARC.

Love an author who can build tension and this, for me, did the perfect job.

The complexities in the relationships were very well written and I felt like I actually knew the characters.

I love Louise Jensen's reading so I was very keen to start this new one and I'm happy to say that I was gripped by it! I'm struggling with getting back into reading at the moment so when a book really captivates me, it's such a good feeling. The Liar follows four people who all have their secrets and lies, but they're all really close to each other so I was immediately fascinated. Mel gets an intimidating message through one Sunday and she leaves home without telling her own children where she's going. Her eldest daughter Jen has her own worries as she thinks she's being followed. The youngest in the family is Amy who is secretly chatting to someone online. Then there's Camilla, who is such a close friend that she's more like family. I did see some of the reveals in this book coming early on so I did wonder if there was anything surprises coming but then the tension ramps up and I realised that I shouldn't have been so smug in thinking I had it worked out because it all took such a turn and I then literally couldn't put the book down for the whole of the second half of it! This was such a dark and twisty novel, I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it!

Mel is a mother with 2 daughters, one is an adult (26) working in a school and the other is a teenager (13) who goes to her sisters school. Camilla and her 4 yr old son had lodged with mel and her daughters, and was treated like another daughter, however Camilla wanted to try living on her own. Then enters Luke, a new lodger that mel had arranged, only luke moves in while mel was supposedly out of town visiting her brother and her oldest daughter was unhappy to deal with it, then luke starts acting weird, looking at the younger sisters year book, then the older daughter finds out her mother has genuinely disappeared, and this is just the start of the book you haven't even gotten to any of the secrets or twists.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another amazing read from this author. I really enjoyed it, I've just finished it and my heart was in my mouth for the last third.
It was so good, the build up was a good pace, so many different theories going on and none of them right- apart from my thoughts on the uncle (don't want to give spoilers).
I liked the characters, all of the different things going on, and the pace.
I also had a little tear at the end.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Another excellent thriller written by Louise Jensen. I couldn’t put it down and her characters are so well written you can really feel immersed in the story.

I am a huge fan of this author, she knows how to write a great thriller! There is a lot going on in this book - all the characters are interconnected and as the story progresses we find out exactly what is going on. Plenty of surprises and actually was quite sad in places. Really well written.
