As always with Theo Baxter's books I found myself gripped and drawn into the secrets and dangers of the family.

Love Theo Baxter so was very excited to get started and knew I'd be onto a winner. This is a bit of a slow burn at the start but once the pace picked up, it delivered everything I could want. Twists, turns, secrets, lies and more. A quick read but a really enjoyable one

Just woah! 🤯
This was my first book by Theo Baxter and won’t be my last! I had a hard time in the beginning, very slow, but the second half really picked up.
I knew something bad was going to happen, but I was NOT expecting that. I was truly flabbergasted.
There was a HEA.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher Inkubator Books for advanced copy.

Wow! That was one incredible book; I couldn't put it down. A fast-paced popcorn thriller with really dark themes. This was my first Theo Baxter novel, but it won't be my last.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers

I am obsessed with Theo Baxter. I devour his books. This is the second time i received one of his NetGalley books, and I finished it in a day.

This story was great. Loved the main character and her relationship with her dad and his friends. I also love the fact that it showed flaws in many government systems that affect kids.

I really wanted to like The Other Family by Theo Baxter. The description promised a captivating psychological thriller, but unfortunately, it didn’t deliver. The characters and dialogue felt flat and lifeless, making it impossible to connect with Sam and Jesse or care about their story. The writing itself was overly simple and lacked the depth or sophistication that makes thrillers immersive.

For me, a good thriller should pull you into its world, but this one never managed to transport me off the page. By the time I got a third of the way through, I realized I wasn’t invested at all and gave up.

If you’re looking for a gripping, atmospheric read, this one might leave you disappointed.

This is my first ARC book, and I was not disappointed. The dynamic between father and daughter was amazing. The plot twists were all in the right spots. There was enough plot to keep you interested. The very first few paragraphs alone were written perfectly to get you hooked in in the first place. This is my first book by this author, but it will not be the last by any means. Five stars. I'm glad this was my first advanced reader book to get me into this type of reading.

This is a slow burn especially in the beginning. It picks up and is about a harrowing foster home situation. Had me hooked and I really enjoyed this one! I will definitely be going back and reading some of his other books.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC,

Every parents nightmare is not being able to help your child but what about if you’re part of the reason they are in the situation.
Gripping , chilling and fast paced .
Thought provoking because as a parent I was asking myself what would I do ??

The characters, Jesse and Sam, would be classified as “survivalists” and the author really hones in on this aspect. It starts with Sam trying to survive as a teenager daughter of a dad with many issues including depression, PTSD and suicidal tendencies. Jesse is trying to survive the battle of his mind and trying his best in the meantime to teach his daughter life skills. As the plot thickens, we see that these skills are what makes Sam be able to survive and also help others as she endures the horrible foster home of the Bradfords. Survival is essential, no matter what it takes for these two and as a reader I was fully captivated and had my fingers crossed that both would be able to do exactly that. At times, this was a tough read because I was struck with the realization that things like this happen all the time in real life. It is for that aspect that I would caution any reader that has gone through similar experiences to be aware of before picking this book up, in case it would hit too close to home.
Overall, job well done by Theo Baxter. I would definitely read another of his books in a heartbeat.

After finishing this book, I feel all sorts of ways. Although there wasn't any mind blowing twists in my opinion, the writing was still decent and the book kept me interested the whole way through. It did start off a little slow, but I think that was necessary to show the father/daughter relationship that Sam and Jesse had. The story line sheds alot of light on the disturbing and sickening things that can and does still happen in the real world. I would recommend people to maybe research the overall story plot of this book before reading, in case there might be some triggers for the reader! Overall, I enjoyed this book & give it 4 stars!

What a fantastic start to my 2025 reading! This book grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. I was completely captivated by Sam's story and the fate of the other girls in the foster home. The fast-paced plot kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened next. Absolutely loved it, and I'm excited to read more from this author!
