Sami Kierce a disgraced former detective spots a face from his past while presenting a lecture on investigations to a diverse group of people. The mystery is that she seems to be a girl he woke next to covered in blood whilst he was holding a knife and assuming he’d murdered her in a drug fuelled rage tries to report the death to Spanish police before running back to the U S. This all happened years ago before his police career and losing his job he is now a private investigator. A second thread to the narrative concerns the release of a man convicted of murdering his fiancée due to questions about his time in the police. The girl he spotted at his lecture he follows to a country estate and. it seems she is an heiress missing presumed kidnapped some 11 years ago. She claims to remember nothing of this time and his subsequent investigation to find the truth is related in a twisting tale that never slows down. Always entertaining with some excellent humorous lines .

Before I launch into my review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Harlan Coben, Random House UK, Cornerstone, and Netgalley for the Advanced Digital Reader Copy of this title. For anyone with their eye on this title, here is my personal review of the book to help you decide whether you are interested or not. All opinions offered are my own.

I have said it many times before. I absolutely love Harlan Coben and think he is a modern talent. I started reading his books a couple of decades ago. Now, I am not one for reading him in order, nor have I read even half of his books, but…I have been binging the Netflix series and I think the novels I have read, then seen the adaptations for have been done really well. What grabbed me about this one was the fact that the blurb told me that it delved into Sami’s past. For those of you for whom this does not ring a bell, Sami Kierce is a police detective in Fool Me Once. Actor, Adeel Akhtar, brought Sami to life onscreen and gave an impressive performance of an officer plagued by an illness that saw his past brought to life. In Nobody’s Fool, a story that comes a year after Fool Me Once, Sami’s past takes center stage yet again.

Travelling back in time to his era as a graduate student waking up to find his dead girlfriend behind him and a knife in his hand, Sami is forced to reexamine what he thought he knew when the dead girlfriend becomes a face in the crowd. Is his tumor back? Is Sami seeing things that are not really there? After all, he has form. Or has this case remained unsolved all this time because there was nothing to solve in the first place? Can the master of twists and turns tell this story in the captivating way that we have come accustomed to? Keep reading, and I will let you know.

I make no secret of the fact that I absolutely love the riveting reads of Harlan Coben. Very few writers are able to spin a spot and leave you flipped back-to-front and upside down by the time you reach the end. This story was just that.

From previous encounters with Sami Kierce, we know as a detective that he was thorough; a dog with a bone. And despite being forced out of the force, he has refused to leave crime fighting behind him. Sami Kierce as a PI is an even bigger force to be reckoned with and I like him a little unhinged like this.

Coben writes about a remarkably diverse cast that are all well-rounded characters with backstories and purpose, even if they are only minor characters. There is a place for everyone and everyone has a place. I like that all the Ts are crossed, and the Is are dotted leaving no plot holes for the reader to wonder about or fill in. There were a few moments as we sped toward the end of the book where I wondered if the writer would let me down for the first time in two decades, but it turns out I was just impatient.

The pacing of the novel is quite fast and page-turning once it gets going, which is almost at the very start. We are treated to some key flashbacks to Sami’s youth, which provide an insight into who he is and the life choices he has made. I also liked that as well as his profession, other aspects of his life had drastically changed, i.e., his family situation. And as always, there was a fabulous twist awaiting the reader at the end.

Whilst this works as a standalone novel, with its own cut and shut plot, I appreciate the start of a new series. Coben left us with a clear sense that we had not heard the last of Kierce, so I am keen to see the arrival of the next book.

Suited to fans of writers such as Lee Child and Karin Slaughter, I highly recommend this book. It is a thrill and a half, an easy, fast paced read filled with rich characters, and a great mystery that will have all readers on the edge of their seat sifting through the action. The protagonist is a loveable underdog you want to root for and he genuinely cares about the cases he takes on. I love his passion to seek justice at any cost. This is a book people should be putting on pre-order before it flies off the shelves. It gets the full 5 out of 5 stars and not a single complaint.

As expected from the master of suspenseful page turners, this was a fast paced tale full of twists and turns, the first person writing style full of humour and wit. I loved every punchy minute. Sami Kierce, a former detective is a wonderful protagonist and I look forward hopefully to many future adventures alongside this flawed, fascinating character.

Before you pick up Nobody's Fool, cancel your plans!!! A brilliant page turner you will struggle to put down.

Recently graduated from college, Sami Kierce joins some friends backpacking around Europe. Whilst in Spain he meets Anna, and Sami decides to remain in Spain rather than continue travelling with his friends. From the start, the relationship between Sami and Anna is intense, fuelled with drugs and alcohol. Just a few days in, Sami wakes one morning covered in blood, a knife in his hand and Anna lying dead next to him. After a panicked phone call with his father, Sami flees back to the USA.
Fast forward twenty two years; Sami is married with a young son and working as a private investigator however remains haunted by what happened in Spain. Did he really kill Anna? To help support his family, Kierce teaches 'armchair detectives' how to solve crimes. One evening a stranger appears at the back of his class, a stunned Kierce recognizes her as Anna, however she immediately flees from the room. So follows a quest for the truth. A truth which may help Sami lay the ghosts of his past to rest, and release him from the tortuous guilt he continues to carry.

This is Harlan Coben at his very best! The author has created a marvellous character in Sami; I warmed to him immediately. Commited, doggedly determined, intuitive and absolutely 'Nobody's Fool'. His adoration for his wife Molly and young son Henry stand out, level headed Molly is the rock Sami has built his life around. Fascinating and action packed, the plot moves on at a perfect pace, allowing time for humour as well as all the surprises, twists, turns and revelations you expect from a Harlan Coben thriller. I am not a huge fan of thrillers set in the USA, however always make an exception for Harlan Coben and this book did not disappoint, I loved it!

This is book two in the Sami Kierce series. I missed the first (Fool Me Once) however Nobody's Fool can absolutely be read as a stand alone. Indeed I didn't even realise there had been a previous book until I came to write this review.

So many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for my advanced reader copy in return for my honest and unbiased review.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a twisty thriller, packed full of suspense, drama and mystery.

The second in the Detective Sami Kierce series, it can be read as a stand alone, but I think it would benefit to read the first as there are characters from the first book that appear in this one.

It’s a complex storyline with a lot going on, which I loved and its fast pace kept me turning the pages and throughly engaged. There’s twists, turns, jaw droppers and the ending leaves you waiting rather impatiently for a third book? I hope so anyway!

Yet another 5* for Harlan Coben. Excellent read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for my advanced copy.

Harlan Coban has once again delivered a 5 star twisty, addictive thriller with a clever plot which is full of suspense.
The past and the present come together with a bang when Sami Kierce recognises a face from 20 years ago, a girl he thought was dead, he even thought he had been responsible for her death. Sami is a disgraced former police detective who now works as a private investigator., he is determined to piece together the past. The plot thickens as the man he put in prison for the murder of his former fiancée has been released from prison on a technicality, are these events connected. Only one way to find out, if you are a Coban fan pick up this book and get reading.
I didn’t realize this was book 2 featuring Sami Kierce , can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Random House UK for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

Sami Kierce woke up one morning with a knife in his hand and a body covered in blood next to him.
Years later he sees the woman again - but she had died or had she?
Sami is now a private investigator and he knows he has to find out more and put to rest the demons that have haunted him for years.

When Sami Kierce was out with friends in Spain he fell for a woman called Anna. He was supposed to be back-packing but stayed with Anna until he woke up next to her. She was dead, he had the murder weapon in his hand. He did the only thing he could think of... and ran.

Twenty-two years later, Sami is now a PI and teaches a class. He was once on the force but was kicked out. One of the arrests he made was for the murder of his ex, but now this man has been released. Oh, and Anna came to see him and then ran off before he could ask her any questions!

This is such a tense and quite involved story, several things are going on but they are clear and well laid out. The author introduces the characters, gives the basics of the plot and then adds more and more details as the story unfolds. Thinking about the plot ow as I am writing this review I realise just how complex it is, I was aware of this at the time but now I have finished the book I can appreciate it a lot more.

I do like Sami, he has history and experience but I got the feeling that he is still looking for something in his life to make sense, this becomes more obvious as the story unfolds. The author shows Sami's vulnerabilities and uses them to good effect.

The plot is one that just keeps taking the reader deeper and deeper, it becomes filled with more tension, suspense and intrigue. Many things are waiting to be answered and up until they are it feels like a game of cat and mouse. Those who are in the know are not likely to let things slip and there is more than one reason for people to hold back some of their most private thoughts and secrets.

This is a book for fans who do like tense and complex thrillers, mysteries and crime books. This one does have a good psychological element to it and this adds a lot to how Sami deals with the case in front of him. Fabulous story, very addictive and one I would definitely recommend.

You can never go wrong with a Harlan Coben and Nobody's Fool is no exception. Following on from the hugely successful Fool Me once, we again meet Detective Sami Kierce. Sami is living his best life, being happily married with a son, but his past soon comes back with a bite. 22 years previously, Sami woke up to his girlfriend, who is now sadly departed, and with no idea of what has happened. Now Sami thinks he sees her, but she runs before he can gets the answers he has waited all those years for.

With all the twists and turns we love from Coben's books, Nobody's Fool could easily be read as a stand-alone novel, and is surely a prime suspect for a TV adaptation.

Wow, what an excellent read from start to finish! This is book 2 in the Detective Sami Kierce series, with Fool Me Once being the first, however I definitely think this could also be treated as a stand alone book and the reader would be at no disadvantage having not read the first.

Sami was off enjoying Europe with a group of friends but little did he know the mess he’d find himself in, waking up next to a girl he’s falling in love with who is now dead and covered in blood, and no recollection of how it happened. The prologue was exactly how prologues should be, perfectly gripping and dramatic.

The book then moves forward 22 years where Sami is now happily married with a son, however unfortunately the past doesn’t always stay in the past and Sami’s previous life comes back to haunt him. There were so many unexpected twists revealed throughout this book and I was constantly desperate to read on.

I am a huge fan of Harlan Coben so I was extremely pleased when I was granted an ARC of this book, and it certainly did not disappoint. The characters, the writing style, the plot…it was without a doubt all 5* from me and I highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Nobody's Fool is potentially the first non-Myron Bolitar book I've read by Harlan Coben.

It is fast-paced and very intriguing, if, I confess, I really did miss Myron and Wyn. It almost has the same slick humour, but not quite. That said, once I forgot all about Myron, I was very engaged with the mystery being uncovered. It certainly builds to an intriguing conclusion.

It's not quite a 5/5, but it's not far from being one, just a few little niggles about the eventual resolution.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my review copy.

The second Harlan Cohen book I have read and enjoyed. Clearly a well loved author with his books translated into 46 languages. A thriller writer of pacey novels to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

Another heart pounding thriller from Harlan Coben .
Having recently finished Fool me once which I also really enjoyed, I found it really interesting reading more about detective Sami Kierce .
From the first page this book had me hooked.
The story was very interesting and kept me guessing along the way with it's many twists and turns that kept me wanting to read just one more chapter .
I found it hard to put this book down and am looking forward to more books featuring Sami Kierce .

This book reads well as a standalone although part of a series. Sami's past comes back to haunt him when he sees a woman at the back of a class room whom he believed was dead. The more he tries to find out, the more his life is in danger. I loved the fact that he enlists the help of his students who all have life skills to help him out. The story ebbs and flows between Spain 20+ tears ago and New York in the present day. I didn't fathom what had happened and that is always a good sign.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review

Detective Sami Kierce's past comes back to haunt him! Now a teacher, he spots a familiar face at the back of the class, she runs. So kierce does what he does best, he investigates and soon discovers some secrets that should of been left buried...

This was a typical Harlan Coban story, full of twists, turns and misdirects and in true fashion I had lots of theories, some were predictable but others kept proving me wrong!
It's hard to review without giving anything away (Always is with thrillers) I really enjoyed this read, I like that his books are not to slow and jam packed with characters and lots going on. I don't think this was my fave of his but that's just because he has so many that I loved but a good 4 ⭐️ for me still!

I could picture this as a Netflix series for sure. Especially as this follows on slightly from Fool Me Once, it can be read as a standalone though if you have read Fool me once or watched it, you will know who Sami is.

Thank you for the ARC ☺️

The voice in this book definitely stood out as it feels as if the main character, Ex cop turned private investigator Sami Kierce is talking directly to the reader. It gives a conversation feel to the story and I felt like I actually knew and was friends with Sami. This in turn made me care about the outcome and I wanted him and his family to be unscathed at the end.

Sami Kierce is shocked when a woman he thought he had murdered 20 years earlier turns up at one of his classes. Chasing her he manages to follow to a large house with a lot of security. Whilst he is trying to get to the bottom of how the seemingly dead woman is alive and well he uncovers a link to a famous disappearance from the turn of the century.

There are lots of twists and turns along the way and Sami puts himself in danger which adds tension.

I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters, I can definitely see this as another Netflix series which I would binge!

So, imagine this: a super good storyteller, right? Like, they can just pull you in, no sweat. They're telling a tale that jumps back and forth. You've got this guy, let's call him Sam. Years ago, something bad happened, his girlfriend died. He's all messed up about it, thinking, "Did I do it? Did I see it? What even happened?"

Then, boom, years later, he's in New York, teaching people about crime. And get this: the girl who died shows up in his class! Or, at least, someone who looks exactly like her. The story just takes off, and you can't stop reading. You just want to know what happens next, like, right now. It's that kind of book.

MIND-BLOWN! This was soooo good! It kept me hooked and guessing the whole way through, I thought I had an inkling but I was not expecting that ending. I like how it linked to Fool Me Once and I reckon it could easily be read as a standalone or a sequel. Another brilliant book from Harlan, I’m already raving about it. 5 five stars!
