4 Star Review Biggest Player (Not Yours #2) by Sara Ney

eBook/Audio
This was a well written, entertaining read and listen that ticked a number of boxes for me.

This is Dex and Margo’s story. We met Dex in Andy’s story and I was excited to see what Ms. Net had in store for Dex.

The characters were likeable and easy to relate too. Dex is looking for live and there were times I felt for him as his friends found love and happiness.

What he didn’t count on was falling in love with a single mum. I had a hard time connecting to both Dex and Margot. Although one of my favourite characters was Margot’s daughter Wyatt who stole the book away from our couple; I just adored her.

The banter between them was witty and snarky, often at the same time. Although not my favourite from this author, it may be yours.

I received a copy from the publisher through Netgalley.

Biggest Player by Sara Ney is part of her Not Yours series and can be read as a standalone. This is a sports romance with a single mom, opposites attract, and online dating. Margot had a lot on her plate with work, her daughter and trying to date, but she tried. Dex is a single football player looking for love. When they are on a dating app, they match but do they want the same things? She is older and has a child and he is living his best life. I loved her daughter so much. She repeatedly stole the show.

Getting to know each other and spending time together during the first part of the book was fun and witty. They had their issues they had to work through and he had some growing to do. Though both are looking for the same thing, it takes them a bit to get on the same page. This was a fun and charming read.

Happy reading!

ARC Review

Biggest Player by Sara Ney

Rating: 3.5⭐️

This book follows a pro football player and a single mom attempting to find a relationship in a dating app. After a swipe, report and accidental run in, the two rematch.

I am stuck between the decision of liking it and thinking it was just ok. I really enjoyed the first 25%, but when I picked it back up I just wasn’t really caring for it. To me the MMC seemed really immature and childish in times and for someone who is a teacher you wouldn’t think this MMC would be her type.

I tried but unfortunately I DNF’d this one. The vibe was all off for me. It was extremely juvenile and just could not get into this one. Thank you to netgalley and the author for the opportunity to arc read.

Biggest Player is a sports rom-com romance that had me hooked from the beginning. This is Dex and Margot’s story that is filled with witty banter, romantic gestures. and a lot of spice. This isn’t your typical dating app romance and each interaction they had just made their story much more real. I love that their first interaction was with Wyatt, Margot’s daughter, which set the chain of humorous moments that lead each mistake into dates and then so much more. Their story was fun and romantic. I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read more

I loved the idea of a single mom meeting a professional football player through a dating app. I also really enjoyed the way she didn't hold back about her thoughts of him pretending to be a football player. Convinced that she was right of course. That back and forth made for some chuckles.

The in person meet cute was also fitting for everything that had been happening up until that point. What were the odds that her daughter would be involved in them officially meeting?

I did enjoy the romance between Dex and Margot. Watching that evolve from a strong dislike to lovers was good.

Here's the thing though....I wasn't overly fond of Dex. I know. I know! Believe me I know. For a 25 year old professional athlete he was immature. I can't fully put my finger on it all, but he just didn't sit right with me. I did like how Margot's daughter called him out on his stuff, and tried her best to give him the assist.

Biggest Player is book 2 in the Not Yours series and follows Dex and Margot on an interesting trajectory towards forever.

Dex is a professional football quarterback. He is also an overgrown child. He is not close to his family, but considers his friends his family. His best friend, Landon, found love and Dex wants what Landon has found. Someone who loves him for who he is and not for his job or celebrity.

Margot is a single mom who co-parents with her daughter's father. She is feisty and sassy. She is tired of her mom and dad trying to fix her up with their friends' children so she has decided to enter the dating world.

These two meet on the Kissmet dating app when Margot believes Dex is not who he says he is and lambastes him for misleading women. This is such a funny opening scene between these two. But when their worlds collide shortly after in a restaurant, of all places, snark will fly.

Margot is very protective of her daughter. So when she catches her nemesis and daughter conspiring she is thrown. How does she handle this situation?

Dex does not want to date single mothers. He is too young to want to be a father. But after meeting Margot and her daughter, Wyatt, he is rethinking this decision. Wyatt is cool and he enjoys spending time with her. Plus Margot makes him want more than just a few nights.

But when his agent gets wind of him dating a single mother who just happens to be a school teacher, his agent tells him to continue seeing her. She will improve his PR image. As you can guess, he is a football bad boy.

But Dex is starting to really like Margot and spending time with her and Wyatt. So much so, that he does not even consider what his agent told him. Until that fateful night.

After dealing with the press fallout of her and Dex dating, she has to deal with her ex, Wyatt's dad, being a complete jerk about who she is dating. Then, she overhears Dex's conversation with his agent and everything she thought she knew implodes.

Can Dex fix this mess? Can Margot ever trust him again? And how will Wyatt fit in to this operation fix this mess?

This book opens with a bang. This is a funny read. Watching two people who are confident and outspoken become anxious and more quiet. Watching Dex plan dates that are ten year old approved. And let us not forget his serious sweet tooth that Wyatt enjoys taking advantage of. Can we say ice cream anyone?

Meeting the parents was a trip. I do not think Dex has ever met the parents of anyone he has ever dated. He is trying so hard to impress Margot's father, but he is so nervous.

It was a nice surprise to see Landon and his girlfriend fly in to meet Margot and have a game night. However, poor Margot is so nervous to meet Dex's best friend. But she is put at ease immediately and game night commences. Such a fun night with and exciting announcement at the end.

Dex is legally the most adorable golden retriever hero, who falls first and hard. I'm not sure I could love this any more. A spunky 10 year old, a successful single mom who would like to find love, but really doesn't need anyone.

This has been a fun little series so far. I enjoyed the first one, Not Your Biggest Fan, and this one was fun as well! While Dex may seem like a bit of a player, in reality he’s not actually one. Even if at first he doesn’t want to date someone with kids. Of course he actually meets Margot’s daughter Wyatt in person before he even meets her, so he’s kind of won over by that. This is really a very easy, fun romance. As I mentioned Dex is basically a nice guy, if a bit cocky, which as a hot professional football player that makes sense.

The story moves pretty quickly, starting with their meet-cute on a dating app, where she accuses him of being a catfish because no way is a pro-football player going to actually be on a dating app. And then the incident where her daughter helps him out of a bad date. They of course have an attraction and at first are just going to be friends. But he thinks he might want to date her, at the same time as his agent suggests that if he dated her it could help his image. And as you’d expect he doesn’t bother to tell her about his agent saying this. Which of course leads to some miscommunication at the end.

But as I’ve mentioned, I think the author is happy in her new love life and so the guys in her books are never really bad anymore. If they ever were that bad of guys. She usually writes guys with that soft center I think. The big drama at the end made sense and the way they got over it and figured things out was more realistic and less just crazy drama for drama’s sake, and that is how I like it. Once they get a bit steamy though, there is a few chapters with the steam towards the end. So it’s not sweet in that way, but sweet in that these two are cute together.

Another fun rom-com from Sara Ney.

In Sara Ney’s latest release, Biggest Player, Margot is a single parent trying to navigate the latest dating app when she comes across a profile for a professional football player named Dex. Convinced that his profile is a catfish, she reaches out to yell at whoever created the bogus profile. It turns out though that Dex is indeed the quarterback for a professional football team, and he is intrigued by Margot’s honesty and candor. Dex doesn’t want a family though, and Margot thinks he is too immature to handle a relationship. When the sparks start flying though, anything can happen.

I typically enjoy Sara Ney’s books; they are lighthearted, quick reads that leave you with a smile on your face. However, her last few releases haven’t had the same spark that her earlier works (i.e. Jock Hard series and How to Date a Douchebag series) did. Margot is a great heroine, but Dex is immature and it’s hard to understand why someone as awesome as Margot would put up with it. Her daughter, Wyatt, is a great secondary character, and she is wise beyond her years. Overall, Biggest Player is an okay read to try if you have nothing else on your to-read list.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for sharing this advanced review copy with me in exchange for my honest feedback!

Biggest Player was a fun read with low angst, amazing banter, a hilarious ten year old, and finding love with someone unexpected.

Dex was like a big kid. He was super charming and sweet. I really loved his interactions with Wyatt! Those two were trouble together in the best way. Dex was not good at expressing his thoughts and feelings, but he definitely grew in that department. I loved how he makes his mistake right. It was so sweet!

Margot was a breath of fresh air! She was such a good mom. I loved how she knew what she wanted and didn't waver. She took no crap and didn't fall at Dex's feet. I really liked that she pushed him to grow and figure out what he really wanted. Her daughter, Wyatt, was seriously hilarious. I loved her so much!

These two were so sweet! I especially loved their text messages. I smiled throughout the entire thing and read it in one sitting. If you need a light hearted, happy read, pick this one up!

ARC review.

I really enjoyed the witty banter between Dex and Margot and, like everyone else, I LOVED Wyatt! She was the comic relief that everyone needs in their life. It was also nice having a kid as a developed side character and not kind of just *there* to be cute. She was a lot of fun and I found myself wanting to keep going because of her.

Dex and Margot felt like 2 different couples at times. There was the Dex and Margot that I really liked because they just clicked and they complimented each other. They had really good chemistry and just worked. Then there was the Margot and Dex that I did not understand at all. First, I don't understand what Margot why Margot was so worked up about Dex potentially being a catfish and I also don't understand how she realized it was really him? Second, Dex was a huge man child. Like HUGE. And Margot wanted a serious relationship and was really concerned about the impact it would have on her kid, especially with Dex saying he didn't want kids, but then she still allows him to develop a relationship with Wyatt? And then when he did her dirty, she's just like "meh. I was angry and now I'm not" and still barely got mad on Wyatt's behalf. I don't know. It was odd. They were a little all over the place.

Overall though, I did like this one better than Not Your Biggest Fan. If you want something that's just a little over the top, then this is a good one to go with. Suspend reality a little bit and just roll with the banter and entertainment.

Such a lighthearted read filled with hilarious texts back and forth and fun banter. It was super entertaining, especially with Margot's ten year old daughter who was too smart for her own good. I would highly recommend if you're feeling a quick, fun read!

Sara Ney writes such quirky characters, I can't help but instantly feel like I know them. It feels like I'm sitting having a coffee catching up with them as I read the words and I can't get enough. And then my kids get sick and needy and won't let me hide away and read my damn book. Ugh.

Seriously. I picked this up and instantly wanted Margot to be my bestie. She was so sure of who she was but not in a way that she didn't come across as full of herself. And Wyatt was hilarious. As a mother of a 7 going on 27 year old with way too much attitude, I actually felt some of those conversations happening.

And Dex started out the definition of the song man child. He was such a cute little clueless bubble. I wanted to smack him on the back of his head and then hug him. But he was so genuinely nice and clueless it was hard to hold his stupid against him and I loved how Margot dealt with it.

This book was such a fun read with a heaping of hotness thrown in and ive put it down with a huge smile. It's 100% a standalone but it was awesome getting the update on Landon and Harlow in the epilogue. I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Dex is a conundrum. In Landon's story, he seemed to have no filters and no direction (other than playing football)-just happy to slide along, living his best life and enjoying the company of the women who seem to surround him on any given day. But with his best friend finding love (and most of his other teammates), he is feeling like he needs to be serious about his relationships and what better way than using Kismet...a dating app started by Harlow. This is where things take a turn and soon he will realize that nothing is as easy as it seems-even for him. Margot is not looking for a casual fling. She has a daughter and she needs to be serious. The two are fire and the chemistry is off the charts. Wyatt steals the show for me. She was perfectly precocious and sassy.

3.5 stars for me

I loved the premise of this one. NFL Superstar & Single Mum sounded like junior what I needed…

Unfortunately I didn’t warm to the hero and found some of his scenes left me feeling 😬😑 while the heroine was also a little frustrating at times, especially for an almost 30 year old mother.

I will say I enjoyed the pace of the story and had moments where I genuinely LOLd. In particular the scenes with Wyatt. She was by far my favourite character. Overall it’s an easy read.

Another impossible to put down book by terrific author Sara Ney. From the first page Biggest Player was just as laugh out loud funny as the previous book in the Not Yours series, Not Your Biggest Fan. This author has a knack for picking just the right words and phrases to use – ironic, cutting, ridiculous, hilarious words – to pull you into the story from the very start and to keep you turning pages right up to the often unexpected but always satisfactory ending.

Margot and Dex are the least likely couple you could imagine. She’s a teacher (sounds boring, right?), single mom to a precocious young daughter (baggage, right), with parents, or a mom at least, who push, push, push for her to find a husband and helping offer up prospects way too frequently. She wants is to let loose a little, to have some fun but what she really wants is a partner, someone to share life with. But every guy she’s swiped right and every date she’s been on has been a disaster. She keeps trying but it’s more lefts than rights. Until she sees Dex’s profile and something has her swiping right. And then instantly regretting it, because come on, this guy can’t be for real: a young, hot, football star looking for a relationship, and did I mention hot? Never one to filter a single thought she decides he’s really a catfish so when they’re matched she lets him have it in their texts. Threatening to report him, telling him he should be ashamed of himself for leading women on, on and on she goes.

Although he’s only 25 and can have his pick of football groupies, Dex really does want a relationship. The good life of a hot, young, rich guy isn’t really doing it for him. He’s determined and methodical in his search and swipes, but something about her profile has him swiping right. Their banter in their texts is oh so funny, and he doesn’t hold back, either, especially when making clear that children = dealbreaker.

Why on earth do they keep communicating and seeing each other, then? Maybe some attraction there? Who knows, but it’s fun to watch. Dex is a jerk a good part of the book, saying random, inappropriate, thoughtless things, typical man-child. That desire for a real relationship is in there somewhere but at times it’s hard to find. And when he takes his agent’s advice and pretends for publicity purposes and convinces Margo that he’s all in, let’s just say we’re not his biggest fans.

He grows on you, though. He’s sincere and honest (well, except for the pretending part) and hopefully he’ll grow up. And his relationship with Margot’s daughter Wyatt is priceless. Biggest Player is well-written, fast-paced, funny and entertaining but will tug at your heart. And you definitely don’t want to miss the steamy. It was a great read with delightful appearances by characters from the first book, and I look forward to the next book in the series. I received an advance copy of Biggest Player. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

Thank you Sara Ney and NetGalley for the advance copy of this ebook, this is my unbiased opinion. Enjoy!

I swear Sara Ney just always is a slay in her words. After reading Not Your Biggest Fan, I knew i had to continue the series. The banter and meet cute of these two just had me swooning. I mean the way Dex is that typical 25 year old professional athlete that at first isnt looking for something serious then matches a 29 year old Margot who wants a serious relationship since she has a 10 year old daughter named Wyatt who let's be honest steals the show 💕

Biggest Player is book two in the Not Yours series. This is a single mom, sports romance. The main characters are Dex Lansing and Margot Mahoney.

Dex is a star football player looking to find a girlfriend but also doesn't want to really commit. He had a long list of what he wasn't looking for in a woman, one big one being a woman with kids. He gave me dumb jock vibes.

Margot is a young mother having gotten pregnant early on in college. She was stable and independent but never really had a long term, serious relationship. Not even with her baby daddy. Odd, yet some what understandable due to being a young single mother, putting herself through school, and starting a career.

This book had potential but it fell flat for me. Dex was Ney's typical douchey male character but I never found him redeemable. He was also too immature and honestly a jerk.

Margot caved waaaaay to easy during the groveling period. Their love didn't seem organic and was rushed. I didn't feel the chemristry at all. Plus they made the age gap sound dramatic when it was only like 4 years. The whole show down with Margot's baby daddy was anticlimactic and then felt unfinished. Another unfinished topic was the agent drama.

The story was entertaining enough to read and had humor. I just wasn't in love with this couple. It needed a lot more depth to the plot and character development.
