**5-Star Review of *The Hodder Bible Commentary: Exodus***
Simon Vibert’s *Exodus* is a standout volume in the Hodder Bible Commentary series—a rich, thoughtful, and accessible guide to one of the Bible’s most foundational narratives. With clarity and theological depth, Vibert retells the dramatic story of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt, illuminating its enduring significance for readers today.
From the plagues to the parting of the sea, from the Passover to God's presence at Sinai, Vibert draws out how Exodus is not only a historical account of God's mighty acts but also a forward-looking story that points powerfully to the redemption found in Jesus Christ. His reflections on God's justice, mercy, sovereignty, and glory are both rooted in Scripture and resonant with modern life.
What makes this commentary especially compelling is its balance: scholarly without being academic, devotional without being shallow. Vibert engages with the text carefully, addressing key theological questions and interpretive issues, while also offering rich insights into how God continues to rescue, guide, and dwell with his people today. His writing is pastoral and hopeful, calling readers to trust in the God who still delivers.
The format of the Hodder Bible Commentary enhances the experience. The inclusion of the full Anglicised NIV text alongside the commentary allows readers to follow along with ease, and the division into manageable sections makes it ideal for preaching, teaching, or group study. Like other volumes in the series, this one benefits from a global, culturally diverse editorial vision, which gives the commentary fresh breadth and relevance.
Whether you’re a seasoned pastor or a curious student of Scripture, this volume on *Exodus* will leave you with a renewed awe for the God who saves. Simon Vibert has given the church a resource that is both faithful and accessible, helping us read Exodus not just as history, but as a living testimony to the God who still redeems.

This is another great and very readable commentary from Hodder. There is a good introductory section which helps to to put the book of Exodus into the context of historical events and the culture of the time it was written. An excellent book for the lay reader who wants to learn more about the Bible without having to become an academic theologian to do so.

Another amazing commentary. It is easy to drop in and out of text that you are studying. It is well written and easy to understand, even the more complicated parts. This would suit the interested student, believers, as well as seasoned Pastors, Ministers and teachers.
Thank you Simon for producing it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another excellent resource for Christians who wish to enhance and deepen their understanding of scripture. Thorough and accessible.

The Hodder Bible Commentary was developed to be easily understood by the average Christian. This is not to mean it is less than, rather it is an effort to avoid some of the confusing words doctoral thesis are known for having. It makes for a more readable and understandable commentary.
Simon Vibert's efforts to share Exodus to the masses is an easy read for anyone. What I really like is the effort Hodder makes to ensure the reader has an excellent resource when they open any of their commentaries. Vibert provides an excellent presentation of each verse in the Book of Exodus and a well rounded explanation of that verse with not only his thought, but the voices of other recognizable theologians.
This really is a commentary I will turn to when studying the Book of Exodus.

This was a very good book. It was well-written. I would highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

The book starts with what it calls a Birds Eye view of the second of the Bible which is a gentle way to understanding where God’s people are at this time. There is a good debate about when the book of Exodus was written and how it fits with the wider culture of what we know of the time. The usual care is taken looking at verse by verse even referring back to the original language when it helps debate the nuances of the scripture. The author doesn’t shy away from putting up the strings of the themes that run through the Bible which are rooted in Exodus. The tale of Moses and the people of Yahweh are put in context of the journey with them fleeing for safety wondering in the desert and hoping one day to find their home. The emotions of the people obedient to God is tenderly exposed and the violence touched on as part of the story of the victors. Another great look at the Word of God.
