I have never enjoyed a book so much while simultaneously hating the main character. The main character Nina did everything she possibly could to get herself killed yet she somehow survived. The book is fast paced and keeps you guessing at every turn.

The first part of the book was great then it started to drag a bit then the ending was good so overall a good read

Nina is starting her night shift at the Storage Queen and is looking forward to a laid-back quiet night but when a man comes in carrying a large suitcase she gets goosebumps and that is when the non-stop action begins. It's a frantic pace as the action begins and it doesn't let up. Nina is also a diabetic and we get a understanding of the complications of the illness although it is not the main focus of the story it does play a part as the author has a personal connection to the illness. I actually strangely liked the characters even Stacey who is Nina's boss. Stacey is flawed but has a kind heart. The plot is a full on pulse pounding read!

Nina is an aspiring doctor who works the night shift at a 24/7 storage facility. The night starts out quiet enough, but then a stranger shows up with a suspicious looking suitcase and things quickly go downhill from there.

I’m usually not one for mystery/thrillers, but this one kept my attention. The main character was fully developed and her story was made even more interesting by her diabetic diagnosis. It takes some real steel to fight off the bad guys when you’re about to pass out from hypoglycemia!

I was surprised at the detail that went into the bad guys. Roger put some real thought into their stories and motives. I’ve found that a lot of mystery/thrillers usually paint the antagonist with a broad brush with little to no personality.

I was slightly disappointed at the end, however, by who Nina allowed back in her life. They wouldn’t have been my first pick and she could have done so much better.

A good story overall with lots of action that will keep you guessing who will come out on top!

The Night Shift, by Gemma Rogers, Nina works the overnight shift at Queen’s storage and on this night her shift already started off bad because her and boyfriend Dom got in an argument and ended their relationship. She decides to bury herself in class Work so as not to think about Dom nor the creepy feeling she gets from being alone at the storage facility. When a man comes rolling what looks like to be a heavy suitcase, Nina tries to be nice, but he makes it clear. He has no desire to make friends and mostly ignores her. it’s while he’s putting his suitcase in storage that she goes to do her rounds and finds a drop of blood on the third floor and the floor that the strange man is on. She also heard someone scream before coming to that floor and instead of running back downstairs to check the footage or the cameras she goes to ask creepy guy, Did he also hear someone scream. it seems this is what gets creepy guys attention. Now let me stop here. I do not like when the book is over and you’re thinking back to different scenes in the book and you’re like well. Wait if that’s ABC then why did DEF happen? This is one of those scenes that made me so incredulous that Miss Rogers must think as a reader I’m a complete idiot but regardless throughout the book, Nina proves not to be the brightest tool in the shed. because they wrote the book not as a cat and mouse chase, but almost seemed like her and the bad guy/guys were playing tag. As soon as she knocked him down, she would run away. She doesn’t stay and make certain he doesn’t get up again she doesn’t stop to tie him up. Oh no while he’s groaning on the floor collecting him self. She runs away as if this is a game she enjoys, but then her loved ones which include her best friend and boyfriend get involved and it’s up to Nina to save all of them. also, Nina is a diabetic who’s sugar levels come to her through an app on her cell phone, which the bad guy steals or at least she believes he does. An things just get worse instead of sending out a text on the work computer or make a phone call to 999. She wants to prove she can take care of the situation and now the story is set up for the chase. While her vulnerability and fear are understandable, some of her choices feel inconsistent or overly exasperating, which can pull the reader out of the suspense.

Overall, this book delivers a heart-pounding experience with plenty of twists and turns, but it’s marred by a love-hate relationship with the protagonist. The thrilling elements shine brightly, but Nina’s character arc may leave some readers ready for the story to conclude long before it does. Wow! Another creepy great read from Gemma Rogers. Packed with tension and unease. This one had me hooked from beginning to end. Great setting and fantastic characters.

I really enjoyed the fast paced action in this book! It kept me on my toes snd turning pages well into the night. I really appreciated how plucky and determined Nina was. There were a couple of issues with the story that didn’t make sense to me- like why didn’t Nina use that crowbar to take Felix out while he was already down?? Other than a couple of minor plot issues like that, I found this book to be a great read.

Enjoyed this one ! Interesting points: Multiple POVs, locked-room suspense, cat-and-mouse tension, Type 1 diabetes, scary premise, and a strong female lead who refuses to go down without a fight.
This is a must-read for thriller fans who love high stakes and non-stop suspense! Overall 4 stars.

Short, fast paced chapters make The Night Shift a quick read. The storyline twisted in ways that I wasn’t expecting. I appreciated the challenges that Nina faced with her Type 1 diabetes but found the heroics a little over the top. Not my favourite my Gemma Rogers but the intrigue pulled me through it ; I read it quickly.

Nina is working the Night Shift, manning reception at a 24 hour storage facility. Her shift is usually quiet so takes her college assignment to work on.
Tonight’s shift is different and not in a good way. Nina finds herself locked in the building with no way out, no way to contact her supervisor, there is a male in the building (the bad guy) who is threatening and dangerous. This is a game of cat and mouse, Nina is fighting for her life, she is up the stairs, down the stairs, on different floors, injuries, a girlfriend arrives to check on her, she enters the building and Nina is hopeful her nightmare is about to be over, but no, things get worse, her friend very quickly also is obtains an injury, Nina has to hide her and continue the battle of staying alive and saving both their lives.
I found the story repetitive, totally unbelievable and was bored of the repetition of the chase and the constant references to Nina being a diabetic.
I plodded through to the end of this book, but definitely not my favourite book by this talented author.

If you're looking for a fast paced cat and mouse game, this is it. An extremely unrealistic cat and mouse game that it. I was very impressed with how the author managed to keep the story moving along when realistically Nina should have been dead in the first five minutes. By the end even I was exhausted.

It started off slow but things kick into high gear pretty quickly. There was a lot of tension making me turn the pages. Med school student Nina is working the night shift from hell to pay her way through school. Her night just keeps going from bad to worse with uncontrolled diabetes, camera blind spots and uninvited guests. Some ingenious little twists to carry the story along and a satisfying ending.

I enjoyed this one, the kind of book you can stay up all night reading but not quite a five star read. The twelve hour shift is split into three sections of four hours each plus a section for the fallout after the shift. Nina made so many mistakes, but self storage places are creepy even in the day so I can get behind it playing into your head and making you do stupid things. But for someone with medical knowledge, hit them where you can do real damage and keep hitting.

Some parts were also slow compared to the fast pace of the rest of the book and there are only so many times that you can run up and down the same stairs and into the same hiding spots before it becomes too repetitive. There were times when she probably could have escaped too which is a little frustrating. I was screaming at her to grab some candy every time she ran through reception too.

I enjoyed seeing the various points of view and seeing how all of the characters were connected. Honestly I think I would have liked a little more of the other POVs/history than so much of Nina running back and forth.

A cat and mouse mixed with locked room thriller. There are some good twists, especially at the end and the diabetic storyline plays well into the plot.

Enjoyed this book, was such a page turner I couldn’t put it down! Loved the chase and the twist at the end did not see that coming! I liked the diabetes awareness in this book to have not read one like this before but I liked the point to it. Would really recommend this book.

"The Night Shift" by Gemma Rogers was a can't put down story that kept you guessing until they end.
Nina works the night shift at a storage unit. All she wanted to do was study for her classes, but life had other plans. Luca comes into the storage units and looks suspicious so she starts to follow him to see what he is up to. This is the worst thing that she could have done. As Luca realizes what Nina did, he starts to torment her thought out the space. As Nina fights to come up on top more and more things start to happen.
Highly recommend this book.

Love a cat and mouse thriller. I was very interested in the story line and what happened with Sasha. Nina definitely got me frustrated at times, but thats what keeps you at the edge of your seat when it comes to thrillers. Great character development for Nina and everything she was going through. Overall I enjoyed.

This book was frustrating in many ways. Nina was very silly and foolish and it to me the book made me think about her bad choices more than the actual storyline.
