A fast paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your toes, I've read quite a few of Gemma’s books and all have been fantastic books

Phew, Nina had quite the night! First off, I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC, my first from this author. The premise intrigued me, I mean, who doesn’t think those 24hrs storage places are a bit creepy to start with?! I was thoroughly freaked out in the first 25%. Then it gets a bit long, but the pace picks up near the end. The entire novel takes place during a 12hr shift, so perhaps it was a tad too long but I was hooked and couldn’t stop myself from reading and watching this unfold like a movie in my head. Poor Nina’s night just keeps getting worse… overall I give this one a 3.5 ⭐️ and I am curious to read some of the author’s other work.

This book roared along at 100mph! Nina works the night shift at a storage facility to fit in with her studies. She has just broken up with her boyfriend because he’s going traveling without her. On this night shift she doesn’t feel like eating which plays havoc with her health and then danger beckons!! Nina becomes unsettled by a stranger in one of the units and what she discovers in his suitcase puts her in grave danger. I don’t want to give away any of the twists and turns but WOW!! A great read and all the strands are well tied up at the end.

Nina works the night shift at a storage facility: a very quiet, non demanding job that usually allows her
plenty of time to work on her schooling. It is a job that demands little thinking or planning on her part.
Until .one night when her job and world combine to become a fight for life.
Chilling with varying degrees of suspense but occasionally, a little too much to grasp.
Characters are defined well but I found the "bad guy" a little too cheesy.

This had action from the beginning to end, with no break! Who knew all the things that could happen on one night shift? This one is definitely a nail biter!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this

Gemma Rogers' "The Night Shift" is a thrilling novel that delves into the darker aspects of human nature, masterfully blending suspense and intrigue.
"The Night Shift" follows the Nina , a young woman who takes up a night shift job at a storage facility in order to make money while she studies medicine during the day. What is usually a mundane role soon turns into a rollercoaster of unexpected events, as Nina, a diabetic finds herself entangled in a web of deceit and danger.
The author has an ability to create multidimensional characters that resonate with readers. Nina, the protagonist, is portrayed as a relatable and resilient individual, grappling with her studies, health issues and a recent break up. Her determination and courage make her a compelling character whose journey readers will eagerly follow.
Rogers excels at building suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The pacing is well-balanced, with moments of intense action interspersed with quieter, introspective scenes that maintain an air of suspense and tension throughout. Enough twists and turns throughout to keep the reader guessing.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

There are many layers to this thriller, from Nina’s personal medical challenges through to the events which form the main plot line. I loved the back story details and felt that Nina was a really well developed character who I genuinely cared about. That’s a pretty strong achievement for any author. I liked the details of the medical world in which much of this was set, too.

This book starts off a bit slow, however, the wait is worth it. I enjoyed the storyline and the unique touch with the main character having diabetes. The author is very knowledgeable on the subject, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before, so I thought that was very unique and added to the story. The writing was really good and I’d love to read more from this author. Oh, I forgot to mention that I love multiple POVs and this author executed them perfectly.

Talk about a page turner! I could not read this fast enough. It’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller that got my heart pounding. I was hooked from the start and I finished it in less than 24 hours. Props to the author!

“The Night Shift” is a thriller by Gemma Rogers. This book follows Nina, a diabetic student in training to be a doctor at her night-shift reception job at a 24-hour storage facility. Usually things are quiet - Nina does her rounds checking the facility and gets in time to do her schoolwork. But tonight - things will go in a direction she did not expect. I found Ms. Rogers’s pacing to be perfect - there was fear, there was tension, there were glimmers of hope, and the overall hope for survival until someone comes to help. I found the atmosphere of the building being a good one too. I did end up getting a bit confused as the book progressed as to where things were happening, but I think that’s due to reading this late at night. I did find the information on type one diabetes very interesting and how dealing with that along with external things can be a balancing act. I did think some of the twists and connections were a bit “wow, small world” like, but they were fine. I’m not sure I liked the chapters from the other characters - I preferred the focus on Nina and her present situation, not really the backstory (especially the one from Stacey). A very quick and engaging read. Overall, a 3.5 rating.

The Night Shift by Gemma Rogers is a suspenseful action thriller, an absolute and total madhouse! Reading this book was like watching an action thriller Die Hard, just instead of Bruce Willis we had Nina, a student, soon to be a doctor, who works at a 24-hour storage facility.
This story sucked me in straight from the first chapter and never-ending action kept my undivided attention up to chapter 33. Things after this started to be a bit too much and I managed to do some eye rolls in the process.
I loved the twists that I absolutely didn't see coming, not even guessing that they could come. Honestly, there was so much action that I didn't expect twists!
On an absolutely ordinary evening, Nina went for her night shift. As usual, she expected to catch up with her uni work in between checks around the storage facility but unfortunately for her, this night will become a full-blown nightmare and she would be lucky if she made out alive...
I know it was an action thriller but some good dialogues and comments made me giggle.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this book!

This book was quite the action piece! What a wild 12 hours! I enjoyed reading the main character's story and found a lot of parts I could relate to. I did not think the amount of action was believable but it was a nice escape. Great story! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc!

The Night Shift is a fast paced suspenseful thriller which centers on Nina who works at a 24 hour storage facility in order to pay for her medical school education. She usually spends her shift making rounds, looking at the security cameras, and studying. When she sees something suspicious, her shift takes a very dangerous turn in more ways than one!!
Nina is a diabetic whose blood sugar levels via an app on her smartphone which she no longer has possession of. Plus, there is a dangerous man at the storage facility who poses a serious threat to Nina as well. This book soon becomes a tense and suspenseful cat-and-mouse which could turn deadly.
There are quite a few twists, turns, and revelations in this book. I enjoyed the first half of the book immensely but found myself rolling my eyes and getting annoyed with Nina as the plot went a little off the rails for me.
The author successfully nailed the trapped feeling of being in a 24-hour storage facility. The quiet and loneliness of being in such a big building. There is also a nice amount of dread, tension, danger, and unease in this book. While it was enjoyable, I don't believe that I will remember this book in months to come.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Nina works night shift at a storage company and someone gets in and the 12 hour shift turns into a night of survival. It was just overkill for me. It was so far fetched that one person could have so many injuries and still survive and the whole time she just kept going back for more. I didn't care for the constant use of the f word either.
Thank you to the publisher for granting me access to this early release.

What should've been a quiet night at work turned into a nightmare. All Nina wanted to do was try to get over the breakup and complete some homework. Turns out, people had other plans.

I struggled getting in to this book to start with, but then it started speeding up. There were a few places where I thought it was going to finish, but realized that there were lots of pages left to read. Some of the parts where she could have escaped, but didn't frustrated me. The part where it was questioning whether Dom was a drug mule was a great touch.

I love Gemma Rogers book and I really enjoyed this story. However it is not my favourite and would recommend others before this. It had a great start and then got boring sorry

This is another superb book from Gemma that keeps us on our toes.
The characters are well-developed and engaging. It's a thrilling read with a tense atmosphere, at times even eerie enough to give you goosebumps.
The main character, Nina, is studying medical classes and takes on the job of overseeing a normally quiet storage building, which allows her to focus on her studies. However, her calm routine is likely to come to an abrupt end. The story races along, pulling you with it, twisting and turning until the final page, when you can finally take a deep breath and return to the real world.
I also appreciate how the book highlights diabetes, making it feel real. Overall, it’s a brilliantly written book with a powerful ending.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this excellent book. xx

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Nina is a university student who loves working the nigh shift at a storage company as she has limited interaction with people and it is a quiet place where she can make good money and study all night long. All of this changes one night when she sees a man pulling a suitcase into his storage unit as she is doing her hourly rounds. Something seems a little off so she quickly writes down the license plate number and does a search on the storage unit. All hell breaks lose after that and Nina finds herself locked in the building with no way out and she has no way to contact the outside world. As she fights to stay alive, she starts to uncover just how dangerous this man really is. I have a 50/50 love hate relationship with this one. I liked the fast paced thriller part of the story of watching Nina trying to stay alive and trying to escape. However, there are several things that happened throughout this book that made me frustrated with Nina and how many stupid things she did throughout the story. Come on, who doesn't carry their phone around with them at all times? Enjoy!!!!

Nina has an easy going job working the Night Shift at Storage Queen, in Crawley, West Sussex. She is left to manage the self storage facility on her own with only the odd customer coming in during her twelve hour shift. Rather than while away the hours watching Netflix, she puts the free time to good use by studying for her university degree. Nina has struck lucky in getting this doddle of a job, what could possibly go wrong?
I enjoyed reading The Night Shift which I found to be a very fast moving thriller. The added tension was given because Nina has type 1 diabetes and she has to be very careful to manage her condition. Could a “problem customer” put Nina at risk of a hypoglycemic attack? I found the inclusion of insulin dependency very interesting and added another dimension to this gripping thriller.
However, once the basis of this story was established, there was little more to the plot to be told and The Night Shift became a tale of hide and seek. Yes, there was a lot of action but nothing deep to read about. Again and again, characters were running up and down the two staircases at either end of the building or tearing along the corridors of three floors holding the storage units. I thought the plot was okay and found The Night Shift to be an entertaining read. I got more from raising my awareness of the problems of type 1 diabetics managing their condition, than the terrors Nina faced with her “problem customer”. I think this story would make an entertaining television one hour drama with viewers urging Nina to pull through with a happy ending.
I am going to rate The Night Shift as a GOOD 4 star read as I found this thriller to have average character development, mystery and plot lines.
