A fast paced thriller read for me which kept me going until 50% then it slowed down for me and Nina did begin to annoy me

It did pick up and everything seemed to be ok and it was a good ending.

I found this book was different from previous books which I always enjoyed. Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC which I can recommend.

This book was wild from start to finish! The main conflict seemed to drag on a bit but the story picked back up around 75% in with some big plot twists. I read this book so fast and could not put it down!

A Taut, Nerve-Shredding Thriller That Gripped Me from Start to Finish

I thought I’d just read a few chapters of The Night Shift before bed—big mistake. I was up until the early hours, heart pounding, utterly unable to tear myself away from this electrifying thriller. Gemma Rogers has delivered a masterclass in suspense, and I was hooked from the very first page.

The premise is terrifyingly simple: a lone woman, a deserted storage facility, and a stranger with a suitcase. The creeping sense of dread is immediate, and Rogers builds the tension masterfully, keeping you on edge as the events of that fateful night unfold. The way she writes atmosphere is second to none—you can almost hear the eerie hum of the fluorescent lights, feel the cold, sterile air of the storage facility, and sense the lurking danger in every shadow.

The protagonist is incredibly relatable—smart, determined, and doing what she can to get by, just like so many of us. Her fear is palpable, her instincts sharp, and as the situation spirals out of control, I found myself holding my breath, willing her to survive. The cat-and-mouse dynamic between her and the mysterious man is relentless, keeping the tension razor-sharp until the very last page.

If you love the psychological thrillers of Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell, The Night Shift is an absolute must-read. Fast-paced, chilling, and brimming with twists, this book had me second-guessing everything until the shocking conclusion. A five-star, pulse-pounding ride—I’ll be recommending this to everyone!

I do love a Gemma Rogers book, but this one wasn't as good as others I've read. Started out OK with some potential, but then it dragged out too much,I also had a problem as to why Nina didn't make a run for it on numerous occasions when she had the chance.
The ending was rounded up perfectly with no loose ends, just as I've come to expect from this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the Arc.

The Night Shift kicks off with a really engaging beginning that pulls you in right away, setting up a lot of excitement and intrigue. However, as the story progresses, it starts to feel a bit repetitive, almost like it’s stuck in a loop, which can be a bit frustrating. By the time you reach the end, it becomes pretty predictable, leaving you with a sense of having seen it all before. Overall, while the initial hook is strong, the latter parts of the book don’t quite live up to that promise, making it an average read overall.

The Night Shift is a fast paced, twisty thriller that I literally could not put down! This was my first time reading a book by Gemma Rogers, and it definitely won’t be the last! This book was such a fun, quick read, and I literally flew through it.

I have never worked the night shift before, and one thing I’ll say is that this book has put me off it for life! Everything about this book was tense from the beginning, and it was a really interesting, unique take on the ‘locked room’ thriller trope. I was literally holding my breath the whole time, and I was rooting for the main character, Nina!

Another thing that I really loved about this story was the portrayal of type one diabetes. It was a huge part of who Nina was as a character, and I think the author portrayed it in such an amazing, heart wrenching way.

Overall, this was a really interesting, tense thriller and I would definitely recommend it to thriller fans!

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an entertaining book, although I had a hard time empathizing with the main character. The storyline tended to draw out and felt pretty repetitive with fight scene after fight scene. The twists were pretty predictable. It did keep my interest to the end to see how it panned out.

This was my first book by Gemma Rogers.

Nina, a young women and a medical student has had recent relationship issues. She is working the night shift at Storage Queen. Although alone, she likes the quietness and the ability it gives her to study. Things start to get worrisome when she sees a man dragging a heavy suitcase into a storage locker.

Buckle up and hold on as this fast paced page turner will take you on a scary twisty ride. Loved it.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to receive an ARC. I look forward to reading more by Gemma.

Nina is a medical student who has just broken up with her boyfriend, Dom, and is working the night shift at the Storage Queen when someone gets in and her night of terror begins. Will she survive the 12 hours?
This one grabbed me and had me from the start. Although it did drag slightly in the middle section, it got better towards the end and had a surprising conclusion that kept me guessing!

In my opinion this wasn’t the best book from this author but it definitely had lots of tension . The main character’s diabetes really added to the tension in what was to be the longest night of her life not knowing who to trust . I would recommend this book as it will appeal to a lot of people . Well done on doing a book with an unusual storyline . 4 stars from me

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

In "The Night Shift," Gemma Rogers crafts a suspenseful thriller that unfolds in the eerie quiet of a storage facility (the Storage Queen) after dark.

The story centers around a young woman working the night shift, seeking solitude and a means of funding her studies for medical school.
However, her peaceful routine is rapidly shattered when a mysterious man arrives with a suspicious suitcase, igniting a chain of events that plunge her into a terrifying ordeal.

Adding to the tension, the main character, has the added challenges of being diabetic and she quickly becomes separated from her phone, which has the app installed which she uses to track her insulin levels.

Rogers masterfully builds tension, keeping it at a fever pitch as she draws readers into the protagonist's increasing unease as she navigates the unsettling encounter, which soon escalates into a nightmarish scenario.

The isolated setting of the storage facility amplifies the protagonist's sense of vulnerability, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere that keeps readers on a knife's edge throughout the entire story.

The author skillfully weaves together a plot filled with twists, turns, and close-calls, keeping readers guessing about the man's intentions and the secrets hidden within his mysterious suitcase.

The protagonist's resourcefulness and determination throughout this story shine through as she confronts the escalating danger, making her a compelling and relatable character.

The story explores themes of isolation, terror, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Rogers's writing style is gripping and fast-paced, ensuring that readers are hooked from the first page until the explosive climax.

"The Night Shift" is a must-read for fans of suspenseful thrillers, offering a chilling tale that will leave readers pondering the hidden dangers lurking in the shadows.

Nina has the perfect job, working overnight alone at Storage Queen. All she has to do is keep track of a few customers as they enter and leave and do an occasional walk through to make sure that none of the units were left unlocked. The rest of the night, she has free to concentrate on her studies. Until a man drags in a bulky suitcase and deposits it in an otherwise empty unit and her boring job becomes a fight for survival. This one is fast paced and suspenseful and I love the way the author kept coming up with ways to up the stakes. Not that I think any of it could actually happen...but for a work of thriller fiction most of it felt plausible enough. By the very end, it was starting to feel a bit repetitive, but for the most part it's a fast paced and engaging read.

I recieved this book from the publisher, & my goodness thank you! The Night Shift is about Nina, a girl in her early twenties who is going to college to be a doctor, but needed a part time job that also worked with her schedule. The Night Shift at the Storage Queen was a perfect fit! There is a night at Storage Queen that Nina will never forget, where she fights for her life, & a lot more... all on one 12 hour shift. I enjoyed this book SO much. I felt the book took off from the beginning & I kept wanting to know more. I loved that the author brought someone being diabetic into the book to honor her daughter. I love a good thriller quick read, & this book was definitely that!

This was almost a DNF for me around 25% or so, but I changed my mind and decided to stick with it once it switched to Sasha’s POV. I had no idea how I was going to get through a whole book of this girl being chased around the storage center, especially since it starts off with that pretty quickly. Also, Nina CONSTANTLY makes bad decisions, sometimes in rapid-fire succession (this was part of why I almost stopped reading originally…it was bad decision after bad decision for the first 3-4 chapters).
However, once more characters are introduced into the setting it becomes a little more engaging and I was able to see that it was more than just Nina hiding all night. My biggest critique overall is the epilogue, especially the last few paragraphs, which almost felt like I was reading the end of a children’s book.
Overall, I thought this was a fun, fast-paced, quick read!

I'm a huge thriller fan but this book did not do it for me. Nina is a medical student who works night shift in a storage facilty who is being hunted by a killer. The start of the book was gripping unfortunately this did not last long and the rest of the book was meh. I love thrillers with twists and this book lacked in twists big time. The fact Nina had several times she could escape and did not was so unrealistic. Overall 2.5 stars.
