Will you let your past define your future? Stephanie Miller hadn’t had the easiest life after her parents were killed in a accident. As the only child, she was sent to a distant family members home to live as a maid not as a loving family member. Stephanie didn’t get to leave the property but about once a month. She had went to do her monthly shopping visit to not only do a little shopping but to have a little bit of relaxation from all the chores. Little did she know what she soon would witness would change her life forever.
While shuffling her packages to get ready to take her walk back to her house, she looked up to see 2 men fighting. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she seen one man fall. Her eyes locked with the killer. Thankfully, Beverly while in her car had witness the scene and come to Stephanie’s rescue. Quickly, Beverly knows she must get Stephanie to her brother Hardy’s home which was hours away. Change her clothes and location, she has to be safe..right??
This is a fast pace story and page turner! It is a love story and it is so nice to see Stephanie not allow her past to change her. She finally finds love and a home where she feels love.

I always love Shelley Shepard Gray’s books, but I especially love it when she delves into romantic suspense with an Amish twist. So, Gray’s latest Crittenden County romantic suspense, Unshaken – which checks all of those boxes – is right up my alley!

Stephanie Miller is a resilient young Amish woman who is treated like Cinderella by her guardians but, like that classic fairy tale heroine, she maintains a sweet and gracious spirit in spite of it. Needless to say though, she isn’t expecting her dollar store run to turn into a run for her life. But after witnessing a murder in broad daylight and being rescued by a Good Samaritan, she is forced to blend into the Englisch world, at least temporarily, and rely on strangers to protect her. Something made a little bit easier – and simultaneously more difficult – by the fact that the Good Samaritan’s handsome, ex-military brother is her new protector. There’s something about Gray’s tough-but-protective heroes that is so swoony, and Hardy is <blissful sigh> the top of the list. I got all gooey over him with his first amused half-smile in Stephanie’s direction, crushed on him a little more when he starts feeling all proprietary over her protection, but I really fell for him while he and Stephanie are watching TV together. That scene is so cute and sweet for several reasons, not the least of which is that we get to see his softer side & his sense of humor. In fact, if you’re thinking now that you might want to read the book just to discover that scene, I wouldn’t even blame you.

Another reason I enjoyed Unshaken involves the focus of the opening prologue – Timothy. The author weaves his perspective into the story at different intervals, a technique I thought added to the suspenseful tension as well as the overall emotional depth. It’s a good reminder that no one is only what we see externally but rather an intricate system of layers made up of our backstories, our fears, our hopes and dreams, our faith (or lack thereof), how loved we feel (or don’t) and our current circumstances. I truly had no idea how his story would end up, and Gray does a great job of bringing it to a resolution that is just as emotionally complex as his role in the story as a whole.

Bottom Line: Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray had me fully invested from the prologue to the epilogue and is my new fave of her recent releases. Stephanie and Hardy are a delightful pair of characters to spend time with, and watching them fall in love made me smile. Hardy’s past may have made him an intimidating presence but Gray gives him an endearing soft side around Stephanie and I adored the combination. The suspense delivered some of my favorite elements – like forced proximity and witness protection – and it’s done in such a layered way that I even felt sympathy for one of the antagonists. Unshaken was truly a pleasure to read in every way!

When a young Amish woman witnesses a murder, she is quickly whisked away from her everyday life to live under protection on a ranch far from her home. Bev, a social worker, sees what happened and decides immediately to send young Stephanie to her brother who lives and works on a ranch with a gate guard and ranch hands to protect her. Bev’s brother Hardy works for the wealthy ranch owner Carter and both men served in the military together. While Stephanie is on the ranch, she has to be on her guard, watching for possible danger, but she is also relaxed for the first time since her parents died and left her to live with her demanding aunt and uncle. I really enjoyed Stephanie’s dynamic growth of self-discovery in this novel as well as her growing independence and enjoyment of many things that most individuals take for granted, like snacks and TV shows. I especially liked the way the relationship between Hardy and Stephanie developed. He is a hero but not a particularly handsome one, just one who is willing and capable. The second developing romance was a pleasant and additional surprise. The danger is real as there is a gang of killers who want Stephanie dead, but Hardy is devoted to safeguarding her. I liked the way the action intensified and the drama increased at the same time. I also liked the way the author brought all of the threads of the plot together and concluded it all in a satisfactory way that made me glad that I read the story. This is a book not to be missed by fans of Amish fiction combined with romantic suspense.

Unshaken is a tightly plotted, read in one sitting Amish suspense thriller you can’t put down. Written with an understanding of Amish culture and how they relate to people outside their community, added an extra depth of interest to the book.

After witnessing a murder Stephanie is frozen with fear and rescued by Bev, a social worker. Injured and scared she allows Bev to find a safe place for her with Hardy, Bev’s younger brother. The unease and fear are palpable in the writing as Stephanie has to come to terms with her new circumstances.

I love Hardy. He’s a man of quiet character and a born protector. His patience and empathy with Stephanie made me a fan right from the start. It was apparent from the beginning that he was the perfect man for her, and she was the missing piece of his life. Age and circumstances, rather than being obstacles, helped cement the relationship.

There’s a strong faith thread throughout the book that ties everything together, including Tom, the young man hunting Stephanie. I liked the fact that his story was intertwined with theirs as the story progresses.

This excellent Amish suspense was given to me courtesy of Revell through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion of the book.

Unshaken is the suspenseful story about Stephanie Miller who is a witness to a murder, Now, Stephanie is being followed by the gunman and gang members. The author, Shelly Shepherd Gray approaches This topic, usually left on the sidelines in Amish fiction, head on.

The storyline was extremely good. Gray handles the topic with an understanding of each character’s involvement. You are immediately drawn into the story.

Although the story focuses mainly on the lives of witness, Stephanie Miller and Hardy Anderson, her appointed protector, minor characters, Bev, Hardy’s sister and Carter, Hardy’s rich boss, add so much to the story. All characters are realistic and are presented in believable way.

If you enjoy suspense, you are going to truly love this book. You will also enjoy Gray’s other two previous books in this series, Unforgotten and Unforgiven.

Fantastic

Unshaken is a fantastic Christian romantic suspense story. It is so good that once you begin reading, you won't be able to put it down.

While this is Stephanie and Hardy's story, there were a number of secondary characters who not only contributed to the main characters' story but also played a much more integral part. The author beautifully depicted the secondary characters' struggles, reactions, and so on, and how those impacted the bigger picture. But instead of these overtaking the main characters' story, it enhanced it by showing their effects on the main storyline. It added much depth to the entire story without overshadowing the main characters' story.

That being said, Stephanie and Hardy's story was absolutely beautiful. Even with the suspense that surrounded them, they were able to make discoveries about each other and themselves, which helped them see beyond the impossible and expected. That blending of romance, intrigue, suspense, and faith made this a must-read that should not be missed.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray had me spellbound from the first page. A young Amish woman witnesses a murder and goes into hiding. Her protector is a former military man who hides her away in another state. Stephanie is so scared and traumatized that Hardy becomes this gentle giant and takes such sweet care of her. There are other likable characters and a second romance too. I really enjoyed this book! I especially loved the epilogue!! I recommend it to any Amish readers who love suspense and mystery.

This was a very good book, and I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy stories that blend multiple genres. The main character, Stephanie, is an Amish woman who becomes entangled in suspense after witnessing a murder. To protect her, an 'Englisher' steps in and helps hide her away. What follows is a gripping tale filled with unexpected twists, suspense, and a touch of romance that unfolds in surprising ways. To find out how it all ends, you’ll have to read it for yourself!

This is the third book in this series, but they can each be read alone.
I love books by this author and this did not disappoint! This is a Romantic Suspenseful Christian read, which I really enjoy!
Stephanie Miller does end up at the wrong place at the wrong time. My heart broke for this young women, she is like a Cinderella, and had the feeling her family only missed the worked she did. It did seem that God was watching out for her, with help right outside the door.
In a way I did feel sorry about the perpetrator, life had really not been kind to him.
As we journey for answers, and new experiences, I had a page turner on my hands. Yes, answers do come, and for me I loved the Epilogue!
A don't miss read!

I have been waiting on this book and it was worth waiting for. It's the third book in this series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. Though you will want to read the first two. This story is about Stephanie, an Amish girl who just happens to see a murder. From there it is a fast paced story of trying to do what is right and keep anyone else from getting hurt. Stephanie gets whisked off to another state in English clothes and with strangers that she doesn't know. Can she trust this man named, Hardy who seems to be fierce and gruff? Will the gang called The Broken Arrows find Stephanie or can Hardy and the rest of the crew at the ranch keep her safe? I enjoyed reading this story and this part stuck out to me "You see, doing what everyone expects doesn't feel as good as one might think. But doing what your heart wants? Well, that fills you up and makes all the other garbage in life seem like it don't mean a thing." " Just saying." I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are in my own words.

Unshaken is an entertaining, captivating romantic suspense read. The steadily paced, well-crafted plot with its foreboding sense of danger kept me engaged and anxious to find out what the future holds for Stephanie Miller whose quiet Amish life has been upended by a wrong place, wrong time situation! A memorable and emotionally impactful cast of characters drives the story. I admire the way Hardy, Bev, and Carter work together, without hesitation, to protect Stephanie who is a stranger to them. Even though Timothy made some terribly poor choices in his life, I felt compassion for him. I appreciate the gentle faith thread and how Stephanie, with great resilience, came to trust God for the future he had planned for her. Sweet romance adds a touching layer of interest to the story. I enjoyed this story and recommend it as a well-worth-your-time read.

Unshaken is one of those stories that once you start it, it’s hard to put down. Shelley Shepard Gray does a wonderful job creating great characters and a captivating story line that makes you want to read just a little bit more. Watching Stephanie endure such a difficult life, then have to deal with something so unimaginable was heartbreaking. Thank goodness for Bev and her quick thinking under such a horrific tragedy. To watch Bev’s brother rise up to protect and keep Stephanie safe then witness their story unfold….just great story writing there. Another memorable story from Gray.

I was completely caught off guard by this book from the first page with an Amish girl, Stephanie, going to the Dollar Store to get a few necessities. I don’t want to give away the story line too much but when she witnesses a murder right off, her life is thrown into a maze of happenings! Beverly, a social worker, shows up in the nick of time and gets her brother, Hardy to help her to hide Stephanie. Timothy & his gang, Broken Arrow, are trying to find her and you will find yourself so drawn into this story that you will have trouble putting this one down! You may as well set aside a day when you have all day to read. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did as you enter into the lives of Stephanie, Beverly, Timothy, Hardy and Carter. There are several other people but you will get to know them as you journey with them to protect and try to hide Stephanie. Will she make it back home? Maybe, Maybe not!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher.

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray. Stephanie Miller is an Amish girl who witnesses a murder after she finished shopping at the dollar store for her supplies. Bev is a social worker who is driving by at that moment and sees one of her kids that she tried to help, Timothy, with the gun in his hand. Bev calls her brother Hardy to help hid her from the gang that Timothy joined. The suspense will keep you reading. Wondering if they will find her. How far is the reach of a gang? Can a compound with top security and ex military men keep her safe? Thank you to #NetGalley and #Revell for this Arc. This is my honest review. Release date is June 3 2025
