Essie Fox’s *The Goddess and the Thief* is an intriguing blend of historical fiction and suspense, following a tale of theft, secrets, and hidden identities. Fox’s writing is elegant, and the setting is vividly rendered, drawing readers into the story’s world.
That said, the plot sometimes meanders, and character development can feel uneven, leaving a few emotional beats underexplored. It’s an interesting read, but it doesn’t fully reach its potential.
