This is a good introductory book for kids who are thinking about getting a pet and/or want to learn more about their animal of choice. It's not an encyclopedia (although it has some fun trivia) but rather a stepping stone into learning more about cats if they so choose. The text provides a clear and engaging overview of what cats are. discussing their behavior quirks, physical characteristics and the range of traits that they have, as well as fun trivia facts about their abilities. There's a good ratio of text to pictures here, as well as a good mix of illustrations with actual photographs. The children in the illustrations are shown engaging with the cats in a way that's natural, relaxed and happy, with the cats appearing pleased as well.
The title of the book itself indicates the direction that it will go in, and it's a nice, subtle touch. By framing the animals as friends in addition to potential pets, the book guides children in approaching animals as creatures worthy of respect and care, whom we hope to live in harmony with whether they're in or outside our houses. I love the way that the text spends time ishowing children how to approach and interact with cats effectively; the diagram of the "good" versus "stay away!" places to pet them is helpful and well-done. I find that many individuals who have had less-than-pleasant interactions with cats did so because they were unaware of how to treat them (such as yanking their tail), or were given negative messages about cats in their childhood. I hope that books like this will work towards reversing that trend; the earlier children are introduced to animals in proper contexts, the more aware and careful they become. The themes of gentleness and patience with animals are key, and an important skill for children to develop.
The addition of interactive exercises in the back are also fun, and a great way to foster future engagement. The cat bingo is a great idea, as are the list of things that children can donate to shelters and cat rescues to help those in need. I haven't read the book focused on dogs yet, but reading this one has made me want to seek it out.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Storey Publishing, for this DRC in exchange for a fair and honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

A family favorite. My 2-year-old daughter adores cats, she is obsessed actually. This was the perfect book for her. She loves the pictures of Cats and talking about the wonderful things all about cats & kittens. Packed with information from learning different breeds of cats to learning how to communicate with your cat. There is also for activities like making your own cat toys. Informative and fun at the same time. A fun book for all ages.
Your family will love this book, especially the cats lovers in your world.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. The opinions written are completely honest and my own..
Wonderful book for the little cat lovers in our lives. The information is easy to absorb and the fact that most of the illustrations are actual cat pictures made me happy and those that were illustrated were adorable.

This cat book brilliant for children. My toddler loved looking at all the pictures of different breeds of cats. It's full of information about cats and their bodies and is definitely one I would purchase for when we get cats again one day. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this brilliant book.

Oh my God this book does not only have super adorable pictures of cat, hut it's actually very informative. You can read along with your toddler and he or she will be super engaged. It's perfect for teaching a child about cats and how they are sensitive and all the good stuff regarding all varieties of cats. I highly recommend this read even if your an adult, you'll be engaged.

i love cats, that's why i read this book and giving it 5 stars. this book is so good. a little advice, maybe more HD pics for the cats?

A very decent early read, allowing us to understand the feline species. It's not about their care, or ownership – no, this comes first, as it talks about their behaviour and variety and suchlike. You can think about owning (or at least sharing a house with) one later – this mentions that shelters might have a decent one you might be able to foster temporarily, and that's that. So there's knowledge but no pestering about adoption or purchase, and I hazard a guess the same applies to the dog equivalent volume. A strong four stars.

"Hello Cats" is an engaging and educational introduction to our favorite felines which provides age-appropriate knowledge on caring for a cat, interacting with a cat, and identifying cats. This book is appropriate for ages for children up to around age 10 who are interested in learning more about cats, or who are preparing for their first pet. I thought this book was very sweet and well-written with easy-to-understand language and helpful images and illustrations.

This is a very cute and educational books on cats. My 5 year old has wanted to get a cat for years, he loves this book and it has helped him learn more about cats and how we care for them. This is a very engaging read and I would definitely recommend it!

An informative introduction for 3 to 8 year olds about cats, this book uses bright colors and easy-to-understand language for children to learn about and better understand all the different facets of domesticated cats. From teaching the reader what cats eat, where cats like to be petted, cat behaviors and communications, to showing the reader different types of cats or how to make your own cat toys, and fun facts about cats.
Our family adopted two 6 month old kittens from the shelter about 6 months ago, and this book would have been the perfect introduction for our two youngest kids in teaching them not just about cats, but also helping an adult teach children how to approach and interact with them. Even now, it's been a useful book to reinforce what we've taught our kids about cats since we adopted ours.

This is such an utterly adorable book! I want to start by greatly applauding the author's attention to detail; this book was so thorough and there were no gaps in information whatsoever. Everything was covered: anatomy, life cycle, color, fun facts, personality...the list goes on! I especially appreciated the sections on how to interact with cats safely and kindly. One doesn't usually see these tips in kids' books, so finally seeing it spelled out so perfectly and clearly was a happy surprise. Lastly, I loved the activities at the back of the book that allow kids to use their stickers in the book in order to explore the world of cats around them. It allows them to apply what they've learned, keep it all organized in one place, and learn about their favorite types of cats. Bravo!!

This is a nice title for kids who are interested in learning about cats or who have a cat in their life they'd like to know better. The photos are lovely and the layouts make the facts very approachable. My favorite part is the chart that shows where cats like to be petted. I also. liked the photos of cats expressing different emotions. Even PreK kids can get something out of it, and I think cat lovers up to age 8 will appreciate it.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

A fun and informative book that gives children a look at cats and how they work. The author also gives advice on how to handle cats which I love because it's important that children know how to handle cats. A lot of beautiful pictures that give the reader a visual of what the cat looks like. The book also has fun activities that children can do to have fun and bond with their cats.

Ever since our beloved cat passed away, my boys have been dropping endless hints about getting another one. While we’re not quite there yet, this book has been the perfect way to bring a little feline fun back into our home! It’s a wonderfully playful and informative read, packed with everything you need to know about cats—from their anatomy and paw structure to the best places to stroke them.
One of our favourite sections was all about tail positioning and what it means—my boys loved guessing what a cat might be saying just from its movements! The book also includes a really sweet section on how to make homemade cat toys, which we had so much fun with. I have a feeling that if we do get another cat, they’ll be thoroughly spoiled!
This is such a fantastic book for young cat lovers (and their hopeful parents!). It’s engaging, full of fascinating facts, and beautifully illustrated—perfect for anyone wanting to understand and appreciate our feline friends even more.

This is a wonderful introduction to introduce young readers to caring for cats. The information is simple and the pictures are cute. As someone who volunteered at a pet shelter with very young children, anyone can help and books like this can give kids the confidence they need to assist with pet care. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.

Thank you NetGalley for this digital ARC. As a former children's librarian I am always on the lookout for great nonfiction pet titles. Animal Friends: Hello Cats! hits many of the criteria that I deem important for a nonfiction pet book.
The introduction gives a nice overview of what to expect from the title with several hooks to grab young reader's attention while providing important definitions. Sections include:
How to Introduce yourself to a cat and proper touching suggestions.
Habits of cats
The stages of kittenhood from birth to 1 year
.A comparison of cat years to human years.
Popular cat trivia.
Identification of cat body parts.
Cat tail language interpretation.
Popular cat breeds and characteristics of each.
Also included at the end are games and stickers which are sure to be enjoyed by cat lovers.
This title would make an excellent addition to a juvenile pet section. However, it is worth noting that the book does not contain a table or contents or index.

Animal Friends: Hello, Cats! Is a great book that makes me want to check out others in the series. The book gives a great deal of information on cat communication, how to pet and be kind to cats, and information on different breeds and colors. My children would love this book. I love that it has some information on wild cats in addition to domestic. The back of the book has some fun activities for little kids and there are pages that give ideas for how to make simply cat toys that I love my kids would love to do.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC. My opinions are my own. I love cats and I love this book. It is perfect for children who want to learn more about cats!

It is an endearing read for children. But I have to say that it is a bit too simple and does not include enough information about each of the topics covered in the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a very fun and informational read that kids will love. All of the pictures throughout the book were great and helped to make the book more engaging for younger readers. This was a great read and was fun to share with my child.
