A suspenseful "family" thriller between twins that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Wonderfully written, it kept true with other books by Alex Stone, as if I had any doubts.

The Quiet Sister was a slow burn of a read that unfortunately I really struggled with. I didn't like the characters and found it to be very repetitive in parts which caused me to lose interest.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Didn't love this.
I struggled to like any of the characters which distracted me at times.
Mia and Chloe are identical twins, but identical only in looks, complete opposites in every other way. Mum is outgoing, popular, flirty and completely selfish.
Cholesterol is quiet, introverted and lives a much smaller life than Mia.
But now Mia is back looking for time with Chloe until she sees Chloes's fiance Scott.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in return for my honest review

When walking home one day she smells and sees the fire at her own home. Someone is not moving.
The twins are very competitive. After all, they are identical. However, their personalities are very different .
What would you do if you wanted to be the most loved? The most popular? This is a competition between twins, one quiet, the other a dynamo, and consequently loved by all. However, things are not going according to plan.
One thought remains . Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
The author did a great job in plotting this clever book. I loved it.
I will be buying her next book.
Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I gravitated towards this book as I love books that have twins in it. I have lots of twins in my family. I felt confused a lot of the time reading this and that's why I only liked it not loved it.

I read the first 5 chapters but it just wasn't for me. I genuinely disliked the writing style and I think I'm not the right audience for this book.

Alex Stone’s psychological thriller The Quiet Sister explores familial bonds, secrets, and the deep emotional scars of betrayal. The plot is layered with flashbacks to their childhood, which slowly reveals a pattern of manipulation, obsession, and unresolved trauma dating back decades.

This novel is slow-burning, and tension builds to a chilling crescendo as the reader experiences the world of a toxic sibling relationship, where silence speaks louder than words and could lead to deadly consequences.

The tone of the novel is foreboding, and the use of quiet suburbs, dimly lit interiors, and isolated childhood spaces only amplifies the feeling of emotional claustrophobia and causes the atmosphere to simmer until it finally boils over.

The Quiet Sister is an emotionally charged thriller that uses familiar tropes like the good twin/bad twin dynamic. The plot twists, however, are not overly shocking, and the story itself feels a little too slow at times. If you’ve ever had a complicated relationship with a sibling or wondered how family secrets can shape us, this is a novel to consider reading.

The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is a heart-pounding thriller.

Twins Mia and Chloe have always been close, at least that's how they seem. But behind closed doors their relationship is one of jealousy and bitterness. Mia is popular and attractive and always the center of attention, while reserved Chloe is often overlooked. Chloe tries to build a life that doesn't include Mia and is finally happy. Mia returns and wants everything Chloe has, including Chloe's fiance. Chloe is sick of Mia ruining her life again and again and won't stand for it anymore. It's a battle of the twins and you have to read the book to find out who, if anyone, wins.

The book takes a minute to adjust too and there are a lot of flashbacks but once you get used to the rhythm it makes much more sense. If you like Frieda McFadden like I do then you will love this book! Thank you Alex and Boldwood Books for partnering with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

Alex Stone's 'The Quiet Sister' draws you into the tense and intricate life of twin sisters, Mia and Chloe, whose superficial closeness hides a lifetime of resentment, jealousy, and long-buried secrets. This gripping psychological thriller has you on the edge from the first page, masterfully weaving a web of manipulation, deception, and the corrosive force of sibling rivalry.
Stone skillfully creates the dynamic between the twins. Mia, the gorgeous and well-liked one, has always effortlessly demanded attention, making her quieter, more reserved sister Chloe feel ignored and underestimated. Chloe has at last created a serene life for herself, a fiancé Scott, but Mia's unexpected return can destroy her hard-won bliss. Mia's motive is obvious: she desires all that Chloe possesses, including Scott, opening up old scabs and paving the way for a perilous contest of wills.
The book is great at creating suspense. Stone masterfully strips away the layers of the sisters' relationship, exposing the poisonous habits and deep-seated resentments that have defined their lives. The story cleverly shifts, alluding to events in the past and building a sense of tension where the reader is always wondering what is really going on with each sister. Nothing is ever as it appears, and Stone masterfully employs twists and turns to keep you guessing until the last page.
Chloe's perspective as the primary narrator is compelling. We witness her internal struggles, her longing for recognition, and her desperate attempts to protect what she finally has. However, Stone subtly plants seeds of doubt, making the reader question Chloe's reliability and the extent of her own involvement in the unfolding drama. Mia, though often seen through Chloe's eyes, emerges as a complex character driven by her own insecurities and desires.
Although the overall pace is quick and gripping, the beginning build-up may seem slow to some readers as the foundation of the poisonous relationship of the sisters is built. Yet, this deliberate building proves fruitful in the end when the tension peaks and the secrets are finally disclosed.
The conclusion of 'The Quiet Sister' will likely be controversial. Some will have the last scenes as a culmination of the subtle deceit and trickery, something which is completely surprising and which brings a satisfied sense of outrage. Others might judge it slightly overcomplicated or even rather sudden. Still, it unmistakably makes its mark and causes debate after finishing reading.
All in all, 'The Quiet Sister' is an engrossing and twisty psychological thriller about the dark aspects of sibling dynamics. Alex Stone has written a suspenseful, well-characterized book with a plot that surprises you until the last page. If you're a fan of tales with secrets, manipulation, and surprising turns, this is definitely a read worth grabbing.

"The Quiet Sister" by Alex Stone presents an intriguing premise, but ultimately, it didn't resonate with me as much as I had hoped. The story delves into the complexities of family dynamics and personal struggles, yet I found the pacing to be uneven and the characters less engaging than I anticipated. While Stone's writing has its moments, I struggled to connect with the narrative and its direction.

Though it may appeal to readers who enjoy poignant family dramas, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Loved this book! Captivating right from the start. It was a little confusing at times trying to get a hold on how the author was telling the story, but the story itself was well written and twisty! This was a story where you see twins switching places and I am always so intrigued (and kind of creeped out) by that idea. Would recommend!

The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is a gripping, pulse-pounding psychological thriller that explores the toxic and complicated relationship between two sisters, Mia and Chloe. On the surface, Mia and Chloe appear to have the kind of bond that many would envy—twins who have grown up close. But beneath the surface, their relationship is one marred by jealousy, manipulation, and bitterness.

Mia, the charismatic and popular twin, has always been the center of attention, while Chloe, the quieter and more reserved one, has been overshadowed and overlooked. Finally, Chloe is finding happiness on her own terms, including a new fiancé, Scott. But Mia’s sudden return threatens to undo everything Chloe has worked for. Mia is determined to reclaim her place in Chloe’s life and to take the things Chloe holds dear—including her fiancé.

The tension between the sisters escalates as old rivalries resurface, and the story takes a dark turn. The psychological manipulation, simmering resentment, and emotional intensity between the two women make for a compelling narrative. As secrets and lies begin to unravel, readers are drawn into a web of suspense, wondering just how far one sister will go to get what she believes is hers.

Stone’s writing is sharp and fast-paced, with twists and turns that keep the reader on edge. The book delves deep into the complexities of sibling rivalry, envy, and the lengths one might go to in order to secure a sense of control and happiness. With its rich character development and high stakes, The Quiet Sister is a must-read for fans of dark, twisted thrillers.

For readers who enjoy the works of Sue Watson, Shalini Boland, and Freida McFadden, The Quiet Sister offers a chilling exploration of family dynamics and the high price of betrayal.

Awesome.
To outsiders, twins Mia and Chloe have always been close, like good sisters should be. But in private their relationship is one of jealousy, resentment and bitterness. Popular and attractive Mia is always the centre of attention, loved by all. Quiet and reserved, Chloe is overlooked and underestimated, and has tried to build a life away from Mia and her manipulation. Finally she is happy and content. But then Mia returns and makes it clear that she wants to be part of her sister’s life again, to have everything Chloe has...including her new fiancé Scott. Chloe can’t allow Mia to ruin her life again. She’s done this too many times in the past – always taking things that don’t belong to her. As old tensions, secrets and lies return, tragedy strikes. And one sister will use the opportunity to live the life she has always wanted…the life she has always deserved.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me an advance copy.

While I love psychological mysteries (especially when they feature twins) The Quiet Sister fell a little flat for me. Twin sisters Chloe and Mia have always had a rivalry and have never been truly close. Chloe has always been desperate for Mia's approval, always acquiescing to Mia's whims and requests while receiving little in return. They may be identical (if Chloe had Mia's money for designer clothes and makeup) but their personalities and morals are quite different.

When Mia returns to London to visit Chloe, Chloe is excited to introduce her to her new boyfriend, Scott. Scott, handsome and seemingly charming, Chloe now feels she can keep up with Mia and create her own family. Mia's reappearance creates a lot of upheaval and unlocks old resentments. Told in alternating timelines and flashbacks, readers quickly realize that there are wounds and secrets that date back to childhood which impact present day. Chloe fears Mia wants what she has-Scott and a cozy life in London-and will stop at nothing to get it.

The premise is great-very promising-and the story had a lot of potential but the characters lacked some development and at times it felt repetitive. Chloe was portrayed as extremely naive and Mia as ruthless but somehow everyone falls for her act, including her sister. The last 25% of the book does pick up even though most of the twists are predictable, it does wrap up decently.

2.5 stars rounded to 3.

This story is following twin sisters, betrayel and ambles of bitterness.
I struggled to connect with the story as the sisters were quite frustrating. There was some good twists and over halfway through was more intrigued in the story.

There are great things about being an identical twin, but when one twin is greedy and competitive, all bets are off! Mia and Chloe are twin sisters who have a complicated relationship. Mia is glamorous and wealthy, and travels the world as an interpreter. Chloe sells flowers at a stand and hopes to have her own shop one day. The story starts when one of the sisters dies in a fire and the rest of the book unpacks their lives which intertwine in unexpected ways.

I thought the story took time before getting into any action and I quickly grew annoyed as how gullible Chloe was as Mia stole boyfriends and opportunities away from her sister and always fooled her by saying "It was for the best". Chloe was also so passive it was hard to see how she could even function as she believed any lies told to her by her sister and by her new boyfriend Sean. The story goes back and forth showing the history of the sisters and the current timeframe where Chloe is trying to figure out how to live her life on her own terms. The mystery part of the book was well done but I found the sister's relationship to be frustrating and over the top.
