Oh my word, what a tangled web of lies this turned out to be. Quite delicious in the way it manipulated both the characters and the reader so that you’re left with a wry smile at the end.

Leah Williams is a beautiful young woman, who knows what she wants and once she is approached by Miles Sinclair in swanky London bar, she wants what he has to offer. He’s rich, a grieving widower, and seems to be so beguiled by Leah that their thirty year age gap is no barrier to lust. Once at Miles’ chateau in France, their relationship strengthens and the only down side of this idyllic setting is the domineering presence of Miles’ cousin, Vivienne, who acts as chatelaine of the chateau, and who is a constant reminder of the past.

All is not what it seems at the chateau, there’s a definite sinister edginess and some deadly secrets about what happened to the last Mrs Sinclair and with some clever twists I didn’t see coming The Last Mrs Sinclair is a definite page turner.

This book has everything I love and need in a book. Just enough mystery to keep you entertained but not over done that it gets cheesy (if you know, you know). This is one of those books you HAVE to finish in one sitting because you have to know what's next. Very much enjoyed it!

As always with T. J. Emerson I was drawn in to the secrets and lies and just had to find out the truth.

What a great psychological thriller with so many twist and turns! Kept me engaged the entire time. What things people will do for money and revenge is crazy!

Some people just want the finer things in life. This is a twisty, fun thriller than starts off like a typical "Rebecca" story, but then goes off the rails into another story all together. Four stars for an original story that had unlikeable characters but a interesting plot. Leah Williams had long been told by her mother to go after money and not love. Leah spends her time in expensive hotel bars hoping to find a rich husband and one day meets Miles Sinclair. Miles is a widower and is attractive but Leah is only attracted to his money. After a short courtship he invites her to the French Chateau owned by his family and currently occupied by his cousin Vivienne who is helping out as a housekeeper. Vivienne isn't very pleasant to Leah, after all there is more than a 20 year age difference-but this family and this house contains many secrets, secrets which may prove deadly.

After the couple get engaged, Leah finds herself rather isolated in the country and she becomes obsessed with the mystery of how Miles first wife died from a fall from this very Chateau. If this sounds familiar, be assured this is just the tip of the iceberg and lots of twists ands surprises are in store in this novel. I finished this one in 24 hours and even though I initially hated Leah, I came to enjoy her as a main character. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.

The Last Mrs Sinclair is the third book I've read from Emerson and is definitely my favourite to date.

It's a fast paced, pulse pounder of a thriller and it had me hooked! What a wild ride it took us on!

Just how twisty can one book be? I had to scrape my jaw off the floor more than once...Didn't see that one coming at all. Totally oblivious!

I found the characters to be on the marmitey side of life, whilst I couldn't emotionally invest in any of them, they certainly made for fantastic reading.

A thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining story of sex, lies and one woman's need for greed.

Wow!! I was not expecting even 1/4 of the surprises this book doled out.
Leah is an opportunist who th8ngs she’s making a good marriage with a wealthy older man.
However, turns out she’s being played and one of,the people who is playing her is being played by the other player!
Played much??
My job dropped with all the delicious backstabbing, lies, and betrayals. The final one is revealed in the epilogue which I didn’t see at all!
Great read!

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader copy of The Last Mrs Sinclair by T.J Emerson.

This mystery/thriller was a great read and marked my first introduction to T.J. Emerson's work.

The story follows Leah, a woman determined to find an older, wealthy man to settle down with for the sake of financial security. Enter Miles—a rich, widowed businessman who seems equally eager for companionship. The two spend the summer at his French chateau, accompanied by Miles’ eccentric cousin, Vivienne. What starts as a seemingly straightforward setup quickly spirals into a web of twists and surprises that had me exclaiming “No way!” more times than I can count. I genuinely struggled to put the book down.

I’ll admit, during the first third of the novel, Leah had me rolling my eyes. I tend to gravitate toward strong female leads, and her willful ignorance of the glaring red flags around Miles was frustrating. But everything changed once Part Two began. The first major twist landed—and I was hooked. From that point on, I found myself rooting for Leah and side-eying a few other characters (whose names I won’t mention to avoid spoilers). Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, another curveball hit, and out came another “No way!”

It was, pun intended, absolutely thrilling.

All relationships are based on power, not love. This is a quote Leah Rose Williams lives by, it belonged to her mother and she whole heartedly believes it. That is why, when she meets Miles at the bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, she knows how to play the game. Desperate and somewhat broke Leah goes for Miles and he succumbs to her great looks and her seductive demeanor. But little does Leah know that Miles is also playing a game with his cousin Vivianne and it will turn deadly. Leah will discover all of Miles' secrets at his family home in Chateau Clairvallon, a home with many ghosts.

The Last Mrs. Sinclair is a fast paced, secret ridden mystery thriller that will leave you wanting more!

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this delightful thriller.

Secrets and lies abound in Chateau Clairvallon! After Leah and a much older Miles enter a relationship, he rushes and proposes to her. Leah gives up her job and previous home and stays with Miles and his cousin, Vivienne. Although Vivienne seems to not like Leah, Leah continues to try to become closer to her and gain her acceptance. But soon Leah realizes there is more here than meets the eye. Secrets begin to be revealed and true feelings emerge. Not everyone will survive. This was a really good domestic thriller! I really enjoyed the pacing and the twists.

"Her life is yours for the taking..."
The Last Mrs. Sinclair by T.J Emerson is a domestic thriller that is packed with surprises!! Definitely a great page turner that is perfect for thriller fans!

After a bad breakup, Leah just wants to find the perfect guy and live a luxurious life wanting for nothing. Then she meets Miles, an older and charming man who seems to be exactly what Leah wants. After a whirlwind romance he whisks her away to his French chateau. But Chateau Clairvallon has some dark secrets. It happens to be where Miles's first wife fell to her death in what seemed to be an accident. And then there is Vivienne, Miles's cousin, who is working as a caretaker/housekeeper of the chateau. Vivienne is not as welcoming as Leah had hoped for but she will deal with it for Miles. But when she starts to talk to the locals, they all seem to think that Miles and possibly Vivienne had something to do with Miles's first wife's death.. What other secrets are hiding at Chateau Clairvallon?

I really enjoyed this book and how tension filled it was! The suspense literally increased each chapter until the perfectly tied up ending. This is a book that I can confidently recommend to other thriller addicts!!

I’ve got to confess that I picked up "The Last Mrs. Sinclair" because of its eye-catching cover, and honestly, I was bracing myself for another cliched plot. But holy cow, this juicy domestic thriller packs some real surprises that turn the usual plot on its head! And trust me, the big twist doesn’t drop until later, but when it does—mind blown!

Leah is done chasing after the perfect fairy tale. After a bad breakup, she’s about securing a wealthy and luxurious life with a decent man who will treat her right. That’s where Miles comes in! He seems to tick all the right boxes and whisks her away to his beautiful French chateau, making it a dream come true. But hang on—there’s a twist! There's always a twist, right?

The chateau has its secrets, as it’s the site where Miles’s first wife fell to her death in what he claims was a tragic accident. But was it really just an accident? Plus, there's his peculiar cousin temporarily living there as a caretaker, adding to the intrigue!

After chatting with some locals and secretly poking around the chateau, Leah starts to think Miles and his cousin are hiding some pretty dark secrets. Things are definitely not what they seem, and this story turns into an exciting rollercoaster ride!

🌟 Review 🌟

I love T J Emerson and I wasn't expecting this to top my previous fave by her, The Perfect Holiday, but it's definitely up there as one of her best.

There's an intriguing premise to this book. A man whose wife died in suspicious circumstances moves on so fast and there's all sorts of questions raised about why, and what he gets out of this new relationship.

Add into the mix an idealised setting that quickly becomes anything but, a very strange and over bearing cousin, and a lot of nosy or at the very least concerned locals, especially the notorious Jacques, and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

Riley was the last Mrs Sinclair before Leah, but will she be the last Mrs Sinclair, as her and Miles sail away into the sunset and live happily ever after? Or is there a darker side to this man, despite his seemingly loving and generous ways?

The beginning of the book builds up slowly. In some ways it was painfully slow, but only because you had this uncomfortable feeling that something was going to blow, or at least twist and turn.

From about 40% in, there are so many new twists and turns that the book became quite addictive. I HAD to know what happened. I also loved that sometimes Emerson would throw in something that you think will be a huge twist or a big bombshell, and then it would turn out to be quite insignificant. It surely kept me on the edge of my seat!

Leah's fear, uncertainty and anxiety is palpable at times and this really added to the book. Though told through multiple perspectives, Leah's feelings came through extremely strongly.

Ultimately, this book was twisty, very clever in its unpeeling of layers of deceit and danger, and is an excellent choice for any thriller fans!

Leah Williams, 24, is sitting in a bar one evening when a man sits beside her and orders a bottle of champagne. He is Miles Sinclair, 54, and says it has been a year since his wife, Riley, died falling from the roof of their chateau. He ask Leah to share a glass to toast the woman. They start seeing one another and soon he is taking her to France to visit his home, Chateau Clairvallon. After a stop in Paris where he buys her a wardrobe of clothes, they arrive to find his recently widowed cousin, Vivienne, acting as housekeeper during their stay. The woman is not as welcoming as Leah had hoped but she tries to cope with it. That night, Miles asks Leah to marry him and presents her with a beautiful diamond solitaire. The next morning, Vivienne is not happy with his decision.

As Leah enjoys the pool and learns more about the chateau and some of the villagers, she is puzzled that many are suspicious of Miles thinking he may have had something to do with Riley’s death. Leah is not content to just sit back and let things happen. Rather, she begins to investigate the chateau to learn if, indeed, Riley’s death was not an accident.

I really enjoyed this book and how the mystery and tension increased with each chapter. The ending was quite scary but tied everything up quite well. I’m so pleased that the setting was a chateau in France. I lived in that beautiful country for many years and had the privilege and pleasure of visiting numerous beautiful chateaux. Enjoy!

Mrs. Sinclair passed away at the Chateau Clairvallon. Was it an accident or murder? Now six weeks later Miles and Leah are visiting the same place where Mrs. Sinclair passed.

I liked the setting of Chateau but didn't like all the explicit sex inneuendo's. The dialogue is believable and the author's voice is conversational. I believe the author's purpose was clear and accomplished. I do not recommend this book giving it 1*. I would give it 0* if I could.

I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.

When Leah meets widower Miles Sinclair, a whirlwind romance blossoms. Leah goes to stay with him at his chateau, and the couple are keen to build a life together. Leah finds that the topic of conversation is never far away from Miles’ dead wife, Riley, and it seems that something is always trying to get in the way of them being happy together. Leah begins to wonder if Riley's death was in fact an accident, or something more sinister.

This book really surprised me. At the beginning, Leah didn't seem like the type of character that I would connect with, but as I carried on reading, I found that I connected more deeply with the way she expressed herself. I enjoyed the chemistry between Leah and Miles, and I found Vivienne a very intriguing character.

I enjoyed the chateau as a setting, and it didn't take me long to get into the story. I couldn't stop turning the pages, and I had to finish it all in one sitting. This is the type of book that stays with me after reading; I felt it had that haunting kind of quality that sometimes makes a book memorable.

Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and to the author, for the opportunity to read and review this.

The Last Mrs Sinclair is an excellent psychological thriller . I found it to be a fast paced read with lots of twists and turns. The main character Leah is determined to meet a wealthy man that will spoil her and give her a life of luxury . When she meets Miles Sinclair she thinks she’s found her man and when he invites her to go and stay in his chateau in France she jumps at the chance and feels this could be the start of something wonderful or is it ? Wow this book was one of those that reeled me right in and I just loved all the twists that came about as I progressed through the book . The characters are all horrible but I do love those type of characters and I was really engrossed in them all . This book is the first I’ve read by this author but I’ll certainly be reading more in the future .

The Last Mrs Sinclair by T. J. Emerson was an addictive psychological thriller and I loved it! This book was excellent especially as it was fast paced from the start to the very end. It was about money, deception, s*x, lies and lots of lies. It was full of brilliant twists and turns that had me wanting more.

Now. . . . . . . What would you give for the perfect life?

Leah Williams knows exactly what she wants from life. She only wants the BEST! She wants comfort, luxury and security. These are all the things she would have had if her childhood hadn’t been derailed by her father’s bad decisions.
Then Leah meets Miles Sinclair. After the death of his wife last year, Miles is ready to start living his life again, and Leah knows just how to help him…

Now, what could be so wrong with that?

Miles takes Leah to his chateau in the French countryside, she's excited to get a taste of the life she deserves, even if it means enduring the presence of Miles’ cousin Vivienne, who seems determined to insert the memory of his dead wife into every conversation.

But the Chateau Clairvallon has a history and lots of it, this was the place where the last Mrs Sinclair died.
Leah discovers more about the accident that took her predecessor's life, and she begins to realise that the family she's set her sights on isn't quite what it seems.

What happened that summer?

Was it really an accident?

And is Leah in danger?

But, Leah, will do anything to have this luxury life she deserves!

I highly recommend this book. A great holiday read,

Big Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.
