Very cute story with really lovely leads. A fun take on the bad boy with a heart of gold and shy good girl. I really loved how full both characters lives outside of their romance were, it made both of them feel very alive.

Elvie Everlie's debut novel, The Crash Course, is an absolute gem! This book is a charming, fun, and utterly delightful contemporary romance that had me completely engrossed from start to finish. As an aspiring author myself, I'm always thrilled to see a fantastic debut, and Everlie has truly delivered.

The story kicks off with college student Reese Vann unexpectedly saving the life of a mysterious stranger, Dane Kingsley. In return for her heroism, Dane offers Reese a favor, and what she asks for is hilariously unexpected: dating advice for her long-time crush, Caleb. What starts as a reluctant "love coach" arrangement quickly spirals into something far more complicated and captivating.

I absolutely adored the dynamic between Reese and Dane. Reese is such a relatable characterβ€”her shyness, her internal struggles navigating college life, and her genuine heart made me feel like I was right there with her. Dane, our resident "bad boy," is wonderfully nuanced and quickly reveals himself to be a truly misunderstood hero. Their chemistry is undeniable, building through a perfectly paced slow burn that feels incredibly natural and never forced. You can feel the sparks flying as they spend more time together!

This book perfectly executes some of my favorite tropes: a "love coach" scenario, a "who did this to you?" protective hero, and the classic "bad boy x good girl" pairing where he truly hates everyone but her. The way Dane falls first is just chef's kiss. Watching Reese and Dane grow, both individually and as a couple, was a fantastic journey.

The Crash Course is a heartwarming and engaging read that balances humor with genuine emotion. It's a testament to Elvie Everlie's promising talent, and I cannot wait to see what she writes next! Highly recommend this one for anyone looking for a sweet, charming, and utterly enjoyable college romance.

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!! the banter, the tension, the grumpiness, the slightly darker aspects to it all, the "touch her and you d!e"-vibes, the witty humor, the high-speed adrenaline. i was completely eating this upppppp πŸ’…πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

i LOVED how whipped dane was !! if i do love one thing, it's a possessive caveman that is utterly obsessed with his woman!!! it just NEVER gets old!! the "bad boy turns soft for her only" is one story line i will never NOT gobble up. i loved how soft he was with reese while showing off his possessiveness and protectiveness. and the spice? the tension? the mouth on this man??? yeah that was ✨good✨

at first, i was super afraid that reese would be shallow and just plain & meek but i was so pleasantly surprised when she started growing a backbone and i loved her humor and wittiness. she gave dane a run for his money sometimes and she grew on me quickly. i loved their dynamic and i think a lot of readers will also fall in love with them head over heels 🫢🏼πŸ₯Ή

i'm so glad i took my time with this because finishing it just now seemed SO right and the perfect time to cure me from my reading slump that i was slowly and surely headed into. this was so good!!!! and it sure as hell will not be the last book i read of this author!

thank you to netgalley & the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review 🫢🏼

I really enjoyed this book! The Crash Course is a debut novel and I’m excited to see what else this author writes.
The book starts off with Dane in a troubling position and Reese coming to his rescue. He decides he owes her a favor, and that turns into him giving Reese advice on how to win her crush. They end up spending more and more time together, Dane developing feelings when he thought he had none to give, and Reese realizing her crush is on the wrong person.
I was worried about the type of character Reese would be. She started off so meek and stuttered every other word. But Dane helped her find her confidence, held her hand when she was scared, and I loved seeing the woman she was by the end of the story.
Dane is the classic bad boy, into fast cars and easy women, but something about Reese reels him in. I loved how soft he was with her while also incredibly protective (and possessive, let’s face it.)
There was also a dash of twists and turns that made it a quick, entertaining, and enjoyable read. So glad I picked this one up!

5 Stars – An amazing, Unputdownable Read!

Crash Course by Elsie Everly is an absolute gem. From the very first page, I was hooked. Elsie’s writing is sharp, emotional, and full of heartβ€”every chapter pulls you in deeper. The characters are vivid, the pacing is perfect, and the story delivers both intensity and warmth in equal measure. It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after the final page. A must-read for anyone who loves smart, fast-paced romance with real emotional depth!

There is something lovely and nostalgic about The Crash Course. When our main characters, Reese and Dane meet, it's when he crashes into the diner where she works. Dane is a fan of cars from the 1960s. Reese's sister and friends seem straight out of a rom com from the late 90s.

All of this gives The Crash Course a real sense of sweetness that you don't always find in a romcom. Even at times when the book handles some dark issues, like parental abuse or gambling, it gives the book a lightness which makes it still such an enjoyable and cozy read. Who doesn't sigh when a couple drives a classic convertible to eat ice cream and take photos on the beach? (Especially reading this in 30 degree East Coast weather).

I am also a sucker for books with couples who communicate well and are open and honest with each other. Near the end of the book, Reese finds out that her sister has done something deeply hurtful and that Dane knew about it - the two listen to each other, see each other's point of view and have some honest communication about their feelings and the importance of trust. I love seeing that modelled for young women.

This is a book that I think fans of Emily Henry and Jenny Han would love.

While the premise of this book is excellent, I think there were several moments where I felt like the story seemed to repeat itself. I loved the Dane character and I think many romance readers would also enjoy his character! He is the type of guy who never wavers and I think that type of character is necessary for a romance novel.

The series of conflicts felt a bit confusing for me. There were so many different conflicts happening that it felt hard for me to keep up as a reader. I think a reader who enjoys these various types of suspense in a story would be incredibly interested in this type of style.

Thank you NetGally for the ARC in exchange for my honest review of this book!

First of all thank you to NetGalley and the author for sending me this ARC! This is my voluntary and honest review.

Throughout the book it kept my interest in every page, I loved the whole morally gray boy x good girl trope and kept me giggling the whole time!!

I personally loved that Dane and Reese had such a realistic stories where you can easily relate to them and their personalities. It gave the book the plus I was looking for!

Be sure to check the trigger warnings first!

This was a super fun read although definitely check trigger warnings as it touches some pretty dark subjects, like past traumas the main characters have been through. I loved that the β€œbad boy” was really into cars and I can tell Elvie Everly put a lot of effort into researching the subject cause it all sounded just like how my fiancΓ© sounds when he talks about cars haha! I also thought the fmc was super sweet and I was rooting for her the whole time, especially against her own sister! Admittedly it took a few chapters before I bought into the story and I wasn’t a big fan of the β€œwho did this to you” trope when they had just met, but after a while I found myself having a wonderful time giggling and kicking my feet! Super cute, fun, and funny! I liked it 😁

Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved this novel! The rollercoaster of emotions I felt during this book was insane. I love Dane and his Reese's Pieces and their relationship. I am so impressed that this is Everly's debut book but also so bummed that more of her work is not available to the public yet! I need more stories like this in my life! I am wicked excited to read more of her work in the future!!

This book is everything, it’s is an emotional journey of two flawed but deeply human characters finding hope and connection in each other. It blends themes of love, growth, and redemption with moments of humor and vulnerability.

Reese was such a strong fmc, She grew up in a toxic household marked by neglect and abuse, which has left her with lingering insecurities and PTSD. Yet, she’s resilient, kind, and determined to move forward despite her struggles, she’s also cautious about trusting others. I loved her so much, and I loved how her vulnerability is evident in her difficulty expressing her feelings. I wanted to hug her so bad and tell her that everything eventually will be okay.

Dane the mmc is misunderstood bad boy with a reputation for being dangerous and unhinged, your β€œtypical” bad boy…He comes from a wealthy and connected family, which has shielded him from the consequences of his actions, such as fights and reckless behavior, but under his rough exterior, Dane harbors his own trauma and regrets, which he masks with arrogance and defiance. He was somehow such a complex character, and I took sometime to warm up to him. I loved how meeting Reese has pushed him to reflect on his choices. Despite his flawed personality, Dane showed moments of loyalty and unexpected kindness, especially toward Reese.

Dane and Reese’s relationship might began with a mix of fear and compassion, but it developed much from there. Their dynamic evolves from wary acquaintances to something deeper as they bond over shared pain.

This book was a 5 star read for me, so good!

I understand what they were trying to do - it was kinda giving Bully by Penelope Douglas. At the end of the day, it was difficult for me finish, but I did enjoy it.

In Crash Course, the author presents us with a fun story that blends romance with comedy and complex characters.

Reese is a responsible young university student whose life is turned upside down when she saves Dane’s life. This event sets off a series of unexpected occurrences in Reese’s life, including the campus bad boy giving her advice on how to win over the guy of her dreams. And this is where the book shines: the interactions between Reese and Dane are so entertaining and full of chemistry, with moments of tension appearing when you least expect them!

I really enjoyed how the characters’ relationship grows gradually and is well-developed. While Reese struggles with her insecurities due to a past event and her efforts to win over Caleb, Dane begins to realize that his advice is having more of an impact than he expectedβ€”including on his own feelings. I liked how the author balanced comedy with emotional dilemmas.

The author’s writing is light and accessible.

Although it’s an enjoyable read full of adorable moments, the book has some monotonous and repetitive parts, which can slow down the pace of the story a little.

A story about the unexpected and how life can surprise us, about the challenges of finding love. If you’re looking for a fun and emotional read, this book is a great choice, especially if you’re a fan of romances with complex characters and plenty of humor!

First of all I love a good slow-burn romance, witty banter, and just the right amount slight drama my god i couldn’t put it down. The touch her and you die trope is starting to be my favorite. Reese and Dane’s dynamic develops so naturally and it’s something I expected but didn’t expect at the same time. There were some times where I was lost but overall it was such a good read!!! And to be a debut novel wow I can’t wait for the next.

I enjoyed this book and loved this book.

The way Elvie Everly built up on the trauma and experiences on both ends was amazing. I loved how she treated the characters and how there was more than what met the eye.

I appreciate the quick, fast-paced start that really hooked me, but there were some slow bits in the middle that almost lost me.

It was more than just romance and that already puts it at a cut above the rest.

The ending was so satisfying that if left me smiling and actually hoping for more.
