This picture book has beautiful, soft watercolor illustrations, and simple text that engages with a child's question about God. The answers all have a basis in the Bible, while also being broad and general enough to appeal to people who believe in a higher power in general, without believing in the Christian God. This book will appeal to broad audiences who are interested in fostering children's curiosity about spirituality.

This was such a cute book! Perfect for all ages and even something my toddler would enjoy but something I really loved about it is how tenderly they answered one of the most profound questions so many of us have or have had; Where is God and Where can I find him?

It’s simple yet meaningful. I love how it encourages you to seek and see God in everyday simple moments. From nature to heaven to inside ourselves - it’s a great way to start to introduce biblical truths and scripture.

The illustrations weren’t my favourites as I prefer more vivid and vibrant pops of colour however the message and concept is worth the read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Open Hearted Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Where God Lives, by Carl Hughes, is a heartwarming children’s book that answers one of the most profound questions simply and tenderly: Where is God? Where does He live? Through clear and inclusive storytelling, Hughes delivers a comforting and accessible message for young readers.

The language is simple yet meaningful, with a short text that makes it easy to understand—perfect for preschoolers or early readers. However, one minor drawback is the font, which, on some pages 13-14 (on e-readers), blends with the background illustrations, potentially making it harder to read for children or adults with ADHD or visual difficulties, just like me. Maybe, Highlighting it could help.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its ability to showcase God’s presence in everyday life. From small moments to grand scenes in nature, Hughes gently guides children through a universal and relatable reflection. His inclusive approach ensures that children from all backgrounds can connect with the story.

The illustrations are a highlight, playing a crucial role in enhancing the reading experience. The little mouse character is endearing, with expressive gestures that create empathy. Additionally, the color palette was carefully chosen to evoke peace and tranquility, making the book even more inviting and emotionally reassuring for children.

In summary, Where God Lives is a simple yet powerful book, perfect for introducing children to spiritual themes clearly and lovingly. With its charming visual presentation and comforting message, it is an excellent choice for family reading, classroom discussions, or moments of reflection.

I love the message of this book, and the illustrations are pretty little abstract watercolors. It tries to encompass the answer of the question, Where does God live? and since that isn't a simple answer, it's not a simple book, but it is told in a child friendly way that is open to great discussion for you and your kids.

This is a sweet, simple children's book. It does a good job of answering a big question that kids (and adults) might have. Also, the watercolor pictures are whimsical and soft.
