This book has some very pretty pictures. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. They are the best part of the book, but it's a pretty good story as well.

A feeling to which many of us can relate, losing a day to our emotions can feel like a failure and like we've done something wrong by working with our feelings instead of pushing them down. This book empowers readers to feel their emotions and to love themselves for everything they feel, even if they lose a day to those emotions.

STUNNING! WONDERFULLY WRITTEN and ILLUSTRATED! EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ.
This is a story dear to my heart. Lyrically told this story gives us creative and mindful ways to help everyone learn to understand and to find ways to deal with those feelings that affect us mentally, like depression, anxiety and negative feelings. In such a creative way we are given so many positive ways to help us deal with mental illness and mental struggles. With calming things like the ones I use, such as writing, listening to music and relaxing with the rain, I found the ways that work for me to help me find me again. This book is perfect for little ones to help understand and conquer these feelings. They can be confusing and hard understand for children and for adults. As a woman and mom who has struggled my whole life with these mental struggles this book was a comfort to me. It gives a calm feelings that is just what I needed. Just like the beautiful illustrations that show us how these ideas can work. Great to open up endless opportunities to talk with your little ones about what they may be feeling and letting them know they can always share those feelings with you. It is wonderful to show that others struggle with these feelings too, they are not alone. This book is meant to be shared. Even though it's for children I feel adults would love it as well. I know I did. It is one that I will happily share with my children and others. Snuggle up and enjoy with your little ones.
A Sky Full of ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Stars for this book.

I Lost a Day uses meaningful illustrations and lyrical storytelling to share how various children lose a day due to emotions. This book could be used as an introduction story when discussing mental health, focusing on depression. Reading the description helped me connect the various children and their feelings, as they felt disconnected without some background knowledge, which could be difficult for children to connect with.

Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC.

Clever rhymed look at depression, from the author's experience. Here the children shown in her art start off with anger and enraged fists, and/or dark clouds over them, and one by one prove that even if they sacrifice a day to getting out of the doldrums, they can. One just hides in bed, one mopes looking at the rain on the windows, and one goes for a run, but generally they are creative – whether telling stories, sketching, playing their guitar or whatever. There's no judgement, there's a sensible encouragement to commune with nature as a way to improve one's mood – and there's very little in the way of the typical mindfulness of these self-helpers. The indication of the bad mood as a kind of neon red energy zapping all around you is clever, and this has enough to make it a success in what is becoming a crowded market. A distinctive and healthy four stars.

This picture book is filled with valuable insights and analogies about depression. Many who have struggled with depression could find hope in its kind and gentle reminders to move, be outside, do something creative and more.

I generally prefer more story to picture books, and find those stick with me for much longer (and I usually can't get my kids to sit through a picture book without a solid story), but some of the word play here was fun.

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I Lost a Day is a beautiful picture book about the overwhelming feelings associated with depression and the ways in which we can work to overcome those feelings and discover who we are. Briana Corr Scott speaks from experience and does a wonderful job of portraying how difficult it is to live with depression while also providing hope and encouragement in finding activities to help us cope and heal. As a person who has always struggled with depression, I feel that I could have really benefitted from a book like this to encourage me and help me feel less alone. As a parent of a child who struggles with depression, I am so incredibly thankful that I will have this book as a tool to help him process those big feelings and learn to cope with them. The illustrations in I Lost a Day are magical and perfectly capture those feelings anger, despair, and eventually, hope and peace. Thank you, Briana Corr Scott, for this gem of a book!

I Lost A Day by Briana Corr Scott is a wonderful picture book told in verse about what you can do with big feelings around grief and sadness. I appreciated that the author wrote from her own experience and there is the added benefit of suggested activities at the end of the book. Briana does a good job of describing the physical sensations of big emotions. This will make a great addition to your shelves! Thanks to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read it in exchange for my honest thoughts!

⭐️ 5/5
Children’s illustrated, parenting/family

This book shows us how sometimes we have bad days, and how they might look and feel different for each of us. What I love and appreciate are the many examples of practicing mindfulness. Mental health resources are so important for all ages. This book is age level appropriate with beautiful artwork portraying the bad days along with the exercises we can try when recovering from bad days. Honestly, most adults would even benefit from reading this book! Impressively, my 4 year old daughter was engaged and intrigued the entire time I read through it! I imagine this book would be a great edition for all children educators and caretakers, as well as child/family therapists to have as a resource.

Thank you Nimbus Publishing for providing me with this advanced reader copy of the book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I was so unexpectedly moved by this story. I absolutely love the artwork but even as an adult, this concept of losing a day either to negative feelings or coping mechanisms to manage said negative feelings - holds true. The fact that this is discussed in a digestible manner for kids to understand is definitely a highlight of this story. I also love the representation that the character art in this story has. Every child illustrated looks different, and I think it makes more likely for a child to see themself seen in this story.

This book is beautiful inside and out both with the illustrations and the thought put in to the words. My 4 year old daughter and I really enjoyed reading the book together and talking about all the different ways the narrator "lost a day".

When I started reading it, I was worried that it would be the "same old, same old" kind of children's books about emotions, but this one is different. The second half is particularly good as it shows children how to turn a negative into a positive.

What a wonderful book. A powerful, accessible depiction of overwhelming emotions whether you are big or small and the many wonderful ways you can find yourself again. The simple message that days are not lost when they are spent finding your way back to you was genuinely moving. It is the kind of book I read with my children with a tear in my eye that helps reset us all. I will be recommending to everyone I know. The activities at the end are brilliant too.

This beautifully illustrated picture book shares a poem about losing a day to depression. The book acknowledges a real sense of loss, while also showing how slowing down and connecting with yourself and nature is still worthwhile, and can help you heal. The vivid illustrations greatly enhance the book and convey lots of emotion. This book will appeal to kids and adults who are struggling with depression, as well as other mental struggles or chronic health problems that limit their activities.

This picture book in verse describes the many ways that kids may experience depression. But it does not end there without hope. the author does a beautiful job of giving different ways to work through complex feelings and emotions.

I want to add this to my library and I hope that other libraries, both school and public will add it as well.

A thoughtful exploration of sadness and depression for young readers, with beautiful, thought-provoking illustrations. Though it feels heavy in some areas, this is balanced by showing characters actively coping with their emotions. The coping strategies make it an informative and valuable read!

The art is this story was the first thing to catch my eye. It is so stunning and full of things for the eye to see without being overwhelming which is so important for a children’s book. The story itself is very clear and isn’t a topic often discussed in children’s books and it deserves more attention so I loved that. It’s written simply but it flows well and is easy for children to digest. Both my 2 year old and my 9 year old loved it!

A lovely, warm book covering the very tricky topic of depression- not an easy subject for anyone but very difficult to broach with youngsters. The book is both helpful and positive, beautiful poetic words describing ways to move forwards through each day, one at a time.

We gain ourselves when we lose ourselves in something other than just ourselves.

Emotionally brilliant and delicately relatable. I love how the volcanic-red line drawings of emotion transform into images of electrified joy! This powerful and simple message about how losing our sense of time gives us time us to regain a sense of ourselves is beautifully told. A story that's completely approachable for children (and adults) of all ages.
