This is the continuation of the first book You Wish. The book follows Avery as she ventures back into the genie realm, this time to save her friend Gribblet. Along the way, she encounters new allies and adversaries, pushing her newfound powers to their limits. This book was a very delightful read that will keep you guessing how it will end.

Thankyou to Netgalley and the author and publisher for the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the prequel and this was no different, with beautiful art, strong messages and great story telling we rejoin our favourite characters to learn family isn't just about blood.

Really really enjoyed it, this author write great graphic novels and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another from them.

A really sweet sequel to "You Wish." Avery has her family back, but Gribblet her best buddy, still misses his. On an adventure that brings Avery new friends and new powers, they make their way to find his parents and save a bunch of little guys while doing so.

Jeff Victor’s return to the world of You Wish with Wishborn follows a rather similar story structure to the first. In fact, the core aspect of the plot—missing one’s parent[s]—is exactly the same, only we’re looking at Gribblet this time instead of Avery. The book begins with a flashback of his traumatic childhood experience, then rushes through a kidnapping and subsequent need to go on another adventure.

The stories at this point feel very episodic in nature and, though there is extensive world building in the artwork, the narrative still feels like it’s missing something for me. Though less rushed than the first, I still found myself wishing that the pace moved just a tidbit more slowly and that the introduction of new characters had a bit more to them. Once again we have a fast paced story about family reunification, adding significant touches of action to the page—this alone, I will say, is great to keep younger readers engaged.

I still adore the art and, most especially, the extensive world building. I’m a little frustrated with the fact that the plot feels rather recycled and Avery’s parents rather dismissive reaction to her going off on an adventure to fight some evil thing and save her best friend. My goodness, they didn’t even attempt to go with her, but rather were just, “eh, she’s a smart kid; she’ll be fiiinnnneee.” Honestly, this bugged me so much and could have been so easily resolved simply by having the parents try to go with her but for something to prevent them from doing so and then, instead of showing their response as dismissive to the danger their daughter is likely to go running into, have them be incredibly worried and spent the entire time trying to follow her, even if it doesn’t work.

Ultimately, this is overall a decent book that I’m sure a lot of kids will enjoy reading even with all of my criticisms. I just don’t think it’s superb enough that teens or adults will be all that impressed.

Family doesn't end in blood. Avery and Giblet know this better than anyone. And when a dark and mysterious creature tries to separate them to drain Giblet of his magic, Avery wastes no time running after her lost family member. I laughed. I cried. I wished for it to never end.

I really like this world!
the art style remains beautiful and cute. it was amazing to see more of the world and the weird creatures that are living in it. Feelings are kept real and honest. Also nice to see she is making some more friends. Solong is an absolute badass. Would love to see where the rest of her story goes!

"You Wish 2" dives deeper into the magical world introduced in the first book, this time following Avery as she searches for her missing friend Gribblet. Along the way, she meets new allies and explores fantastic new places that really bring the setting to life.

The art remains a standout—full of charm and detail, it captures the wonder of this whimsical world beautifully. I especially loved how much more of the fantasy setting we got to see.

Like its predecessor, this graphic novel is a quick, engaging read that balances lighthearted adventure with delightful visuals. It’s a great continuation that expands the world while keeping the same enchanting tone.

You Wish: Wishborn was such a fun follow-up to the first book! The story had so much heart and I loved seeing Avery grow and face new challenges. The art is just as beautiful and expressive as book one!

I had a hard time getting into this book. I didn't feel any attachment to Gribblet's family, most likely because we never saw them and although Gribblet himself was sad and had the flashback, it just didn't hit the way it was intended to.
Once Solong told her story, that's when I was sold on the book. I can't wait for Solong's story bc it's spiteful but will have a relaxed ending.
Jeff Victor's art style is always so cute but full of emotion which is awesome for kids!
Thank you netgalley for the ARC!

The beginning was rather disappointing. If anyone had told me, while reading volume 1, that that’s how volume 2 starts, I’d not have believed it. I mean, it's a valid reason to act that way, kinda, but still seemed pretty out of character for Gribblet. And so cliche.

I did like the two new supporting characters, a genie child and a wishborn, although it was difficult for me to guess her age at first. She looks like a teenager, but was described as a woman, so that's odd. Personality- and design-wise she's really cool, though.

And again, the art style in this volume was just as great, with various character designs for so many different creatures. Loved that part. Especially the Noks and them helping frog-like creatures out of confinement.

While I got a bit bored in the middle with so many cliche tropes thrown about – I had more expectations from Jeff Victor, based on volume 1 –, it was still interesting and I loved the ending. Very sweet.

Looking forward to volume 3.

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review

I found the first book of You Wish to be an absolute delight, so I was incredibly excited to dive back into the adorable and awesome world of magic and genies...and I was not disappointed!

If anything, Wishborn is an improvement on the first book in pretty much every way.

The story is quite a bit darker with Gribblet recounting how his parents were kidnapped (parentnapped?), a new character coming back from the dead and surviving in the wilderness alone, characters being imprisoned, drained, and enslaved by a malevevolent being...it's quite something for a middle grade comic, but everything is handled with ab incredibly thoughtful, respectful, and adventurous way that it works wonderfully.

The art continues to be fantastic with the adorable, absurd, and genuinely quite grim.

These comics are genuinely fantastic and it's wonderful to see things made for kids of such high quality all can enjoy.

I really am blown away by the two volumes of this brilliant comic!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for gifting me an ARC of the second book in the set. I loved the first You Wish book and wanted to stay in the world of Avery and Gribblet! Wishborn starts out with Gribblet having a vision of what happened to his parents and he's on a mission to find them, much like Avery looking to find her mum in the first book.

I love the illustrations in this series, so engaging, captivating and just spooky enough to create atmosphere without being scary! I loved this just as much as the first book! Hoping there is more adventures for Avery and zgribblet to come! Maybe with a few extras too! There are so many possibilities!

Book number 2 in this series picks up where we left off with Avery in her happily ever after as her family is reunited. Little did she know that her beloved BFF Gribblet was mourning the loss of his parents. When Gribblet gets the chance to find out what happened to them, he jumps at it. Leaving Avery to follow and make sure he's safe. Avery meets some new friends and discovers more about herself in this new story.

The kid loved this book did not want to stop reading and even has ideas of how the next book will go and who it will follow. The new friends that Avery makes are just as exciting as she is and add some more depth to this tale. The art is wonderful, he story is uplifting, and it isn't difficult to read, perfect for the younger middle grade readers (and older ones too). Per my child "This is a 5/5 book, best book EVER!"

More adorable genie adventures for Avery and Gribblet. I really like the style of the illustrations and the characters are lovely and humorous.

This book was absolutely adorable. Overall a great read with humor, family, relationships, and an overall wonderful storyline and plot. I loved the self discovery of the main character and her adventures with her new found friend. She learns about friendships and relationships and learns that everyone's story is different. Overall a great information and emotionally intelligent read great for any child learning about others.

Could be read as a stand alone but makes for a more enjoyable read if you read the first book.
Gribblet goes missing this time.
I enjoyed this slightly more than the first one because of the new dangers and the characters and the world being more established.
Can’t wait for the next installation,
Keeps my child engaged.

This was such a fun 2nd book in the You Wish series. This time Gribblet goes missing, and Avery has to go find him in the lamp world. She also meets a new friend who has quite the story to tell. And, hopefully, will tell that story in a third volume, because now I definitely need to have a third volume!!

I loved this book just as much as the first! You will want to read book 1 before this because it offers a lot of background on the main characters and the world of magic lamps. The artwork is once again engaging and beautifully done. I really liked getting a little more of a glimpse into Gibblet's life and history from before Avery met him in book 1. Seeing more of the magic lamp universe was great and made it clear there are a lot more stories to be told. The introduction of the new characters was well integrated into this story and brought with them new discussions about the need for escape and revenge. I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Avery, Gibblet, and their new friends!
