This is a charming story with beautiful art and loving characters! The art is so fun to look at, with bright colors that adhere to the story and add to the drama. The plot is easy to grasp and doesn't stray. I love how expressive the characters are, and it brings out the emotions so well. The story is adventurous and Avery is a wonderful main character to look at and see her journey! Avery's mom and dad are cuties and I adored Gilbert! I look forward to what the sequel will have in store for us as the ending for book 1 concluded very well!

This was a sweet quick story about a magic lamp and genies that ultimately led Avery (the MC) to go from bored and fed up to happy and surrounded by love.

A cute graphic novel about a young girl, Avery, who discovers that her mom was a genie who fell in love with her father and then was forced back to the genie world. Because her parents had wished for a baby Avery has the ability to move between the human world and the world within the genie lamp. With her new friend, Gribblet, Avery sets off to find her mom and reunite her family. This book has a fun story and good artwork. It didn't blow my mind but I was entertained and enjoyed it. I'm not sure that I would read more if the series continues but liked it for what it is.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. It is a quick read (even for the target audience) and the pacing is just right to keep younger readers hooked. It has some darker aspects, but nothing that would be too scary for any readers. I was especially drawn in by the illustrations - they draw you in as much as the actual story. Speaking of the story, it has a little bit of something for everyone...there is humor, adventure, mystery, a villain/bad guy, a little romance (between Avery's mom and dad), and fantasy/magic. Gribblet adds humor and turns out to make a pretty good guide/partner for Avery as she learns about the world of genies and her part in it. I am especially excited to know this is the first in a series and am looking forward to seeing what else Avery and Gribblet get up to. I would highly recommend this book for elementary classroom and school libraries!

Cute and wholesome fantasy adventure story. Fast paced with great art.

I loved Griblet as a character and am looking forward to the sequel!

I like that the ending felt satisfying even though it’s clear they have options for continuation.

This was really stinking cute! The art style was gorgeous, and there was just enough peril for you to feel that there are actual stakes, while keeping it appropriate for a middle grade audience. Avery is a great character, and Gribblet is adorable!
Themes of family, self-discovery, finding your place and fitting in.

A really good first instalment of what is going to be a great series. Our main character is a girl, not quite human not quite magic, she is a Wishborn. Going between the genie realm and the human realm she looks for her mother who has been kept in a cave for performing a wish that was forbidden. My favourite character has to be Gribblet, what I wouldn’t give to be on an Avery and Gribblet adventure! Such a sweet story with a lot of heart and the illustrations are stunning as well.

I wish we had a little bit more character development but I’m so excited to see what comes next.

Thank you NetGalley and TopShelfProductions for the ARC.

I received an electronic copy from IDW Publishing through NetGalley.
The artwork is stunning and provides the overall picture and background. The story itself is simple and written for elementary level readers. Avery lives with her dad in a quiet area beside the gas station he runs. When she finds a dusty old lantern, she rubs it and a Herald pops out. She learns the truth about her past and sets off to rescue her mom. She discovers she can travel through the lamp as she is part genie. Some of the plot points feel disconnected but the overall story is a sweet one about family love.

Avery lives with her Dad, miles from anywhere. She's lonely and has never known her mum, but when she finds an old lamp, she finds a chance to get her mum back!
A lovely story with wonderful illustrations. Lots of cool characters and amazing places.

Great middle grade story with relatable discussion points around missing people and wishing them there. I loved the comic illustrations, I really enjoyed this one! It’s also fab to find a middle grade graphic novel that isn’t wimpy kid or Dogman! Will recommend:)

I enjoyed this graphic novel of an adventure to rescue a parent. I haven’t seen an idea like this and I really liked the illustrations. I audibly ooed when the Amber prison was shown. I thought that was a cool concept. The Arbiters were very spooky. I also liked the concept art at the back; I’m always a big fan of seeing the process.

I bloody love a graphic novel, and this was great! Avery lives in the middle of nowhere and when she finds a magic lamp it takes her to places she’s never been, meets people she’s never met and saves someone she loves greatly. This was loads of fun! I can’t wait to read the next one now!! Definitely one I’ll try and pick up for my classroom!

Avery and her Dad live at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. She was told that her Mom died when she was a baby. Then, she finds an old gas lamp, and, when she wipes a bit of dust off of it a cute little not-a-kitten named Gribblet appears. Gribblet is not a genie, but, a genie used to be his boss. Actually, a very specific genie used to be his boss. Avery's mom. That means that Avery is half genie too, and so, she and Gribblet go into the lamp and they try to save Avery's Mom. But, there are some hiccups, like Gribblet's new boss, the genie Vulgarian. Can Avery and Gribblet save those Avery's closest to?

One of the very interesting parts of this graphic novel was at the end, after the story ended. The author/artist goes through some of the process that he went through to write/draw this comic, and, it was really interesting to read about, because, the final result on the page just hit exactly right. From who Avery was, to Gribblet (especially Gribblet, definitely my favorite character), to all the relationships between the characters. Can't wait to read the second book in this series.

"You Wish" is a graphic novel that follows the adventures of a young girl named Avery and her new friend, Gribblet the Herald (who's not quite a genie). Together, they embark on an adventure where Avery learns a lot about herself. The story is a quick read, making it perfect for children, and the art style is incredibly charming, with Gribblet being especially adorable.

The graphic novel combines a cute art style with a magical, quick-paced adventure. While it touches on themes like loneliness and family, the main appeal lies in its engaging visuals and the enchanting journey. Additionally, I really appreciated the sketches at the end, where the author showcases some of his developmental progress. It's a delightful read for children, blending cute illustrations with a fun story.

Absolutely adorable. Great art, a quick compelling read, realistic dialogue, and relatable characters. This is a unique take on a genie story, told from the inside out. It had me smiling and giggling. I'm already eager for more.
