Thank you for allowing me to review this book. Another excellent story, with Dr Harrison Lane of the Ritualistic Crime depth called in to investigate the murder of a man in a cave, with his friends of 30 years earlier as witnesses. Why were they invited to a cave where 30 years earlier a student friend had died? As the police attempt to find the answers more questions are raised and more deaths occur. Are they linked to their involvement in the rituals they followed as students. Dr Lane is a complex character who is very well written, alongside a Detective he has not previously worked with. Both have personal issues in their own lives.
A highly recommended read, which I was gripped by from the start.

This is my first book in the series but I will most definitely read the other ones in the series. I absolutely loved this book, it was a proper twisty mystery. We have Dr. Harrison lane who is called into a horrific murder scene that looks like a ritualistic killing and some witnesses describe how that killer was of ancient curse. Then another muster happens and it seems like to linked with an ancient ritual. Very very interesting and lots of twists and turns. It was a fantastic read.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for granting me this eARC, all opinions are my own.

Couldn't put it down! One of the best investigative series out there, Harrison Lane is one of the most complex and interesting characters in detective fiction, and the mysteries are twisty, unique and always puzzling. Gotta love that "ah ha" moment, and you know it will be a surprise. Some fun personal moments in this one too!

If you were part of a close-knit group at College/University it really is a danger to agree a get-together 10-20, or in this case, 3- years later. someone will die horribly and guilty secrets will out. This is no different. However, the story is bizarre - Egyptian cults - and the main 'detective' an engaging character although, to be honest, I'm getting tired of even more will he/won't he make up with the girlfriend. The lead police detective is good and Ryan has a new, cute friend. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Gwyn Bennett’s "Silent Souls", the tenth installment in the Dr. Harrison Lane series, solidifies itself as a masterclass in crime thriller storytelling. With its labyrinthine plot and intricately drawn characters, this novel is a testament to Bennett’s ability to weave suspense and intrigue seamlessly.
Dr. Harrison Lane, an enigmatic and profoundly layered protagonist, once again steps into the storm of peril and deceit. The story opens with an apparently routine case that quickly descends into an intricate web of secrets, lies, and unexpected twists. Bennett crafts Lane’s character with intellectual brilliance and emotional depth, making him not just a detective, but a human wrestling with his own vulnerabilities. His unique perspective as a criminal psychologist brings a fresh dimension to the genre, giving readers a glimpse into the psyche of the hunter and the hunted.
The pacing of "Silent Souls" is excellent - each chapter ends with just enough suspense to make it nearly impossible to put the book down. Bennett’s vivid descriptions transport readers into the heart of the investigation, from eerie crime scenes to the shadowy corners of suspects' lives. The narrative’s twists are not just surprising but deeply satisfying, as they are carefully foreshadowed, rewarding attentive readers.
What sets "Silent Souls" apart is its exploration of the human condition amidst the chaos of crime. The novel doesn’t just unravel the mystery but also delves into themes of morality, redemption, and the scars left by trauma. The supporting cast is equally compelling, each character adding depth and complexity to the story.
Fans of the series will be thrilled by the continuation of Dr. Lane’s journey, while newcomers will find "Silent Souls" an accessible entry point into Bennett’s world. It stands alone beautifully while offering tantalizing glimpses into the events of previous books.
"Silent Souls" is a nuanced, emotionally resonant tale that stays with you long after the final page. Gwyn Bennett has once again proven that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of crime fiction. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery with a cerebral twist.

This is such a great series. I've missed out some in the middle but I will definitely be going back to catch up on them. They can be read as standalones though.
The murders are always so intriguing, and this one is no exception. I love learning about the different beliefs and mythologies. Silent Souls focuses on Egyptian mythology and has the perfect creepy cave setting. I did guess who the killer was, but it didn't ruin it for me.
As always, there are some great characters. DS Fallon was a great lead detective. She was a fierce female leader and dealt with all the crap thrown her way. I loved getting to see more of Ryan and his new adorable roommate. I look forward to seeing him grow even more. Harrison is so lovable, and I was rooting for him in his personal life.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

Silent Souls had me hooked from the very first page. Dr. Harrison Lane is the kind of character I love—intelligent, methodical, and determined, but with his own personal demons that make him all the more compelling. The eerie setting of the Yorkshire cave, with its blood-painted symbols and the unsettling atmosphere, was the perfect backdrop for a chilling mystery. The idea of a decades-old secret finally coming back to haunt the group of university students was both terrifying and intriguing. The tension between what’s real and what’s supernatural kept me on edge, and I couldn’t put the book down. The twists and turns as Harrison unravels the truth were brilliantly executed, and the final revelation left me stunned. This book is a perfect blend of psychological suspense and supernatural thriller. Five stars—dark, gripping, and impossible to forget.

Mind blowing ! It’s just so good. It kept me captivated and couldn’t put it down. Well written and a great murder mystery with lots of twists. Different type of story about Egyptian mythology and satanism.
Dr Harrison, is a genius, and DS Fallon teamed up together to find the killer. Great characters
Highly recommended

I read another book in this series last year. It wasn’t my favorite, but I decided to give the next book in the series a chance and I’m glad I did. I really like the main character, Dr. Harrison Lane, a psychologist with the Ritualistic Behavioural Crime unit. His character was really well developed. And the cult- like behaviors of the suspects in this one were really intriguing. The murders that are taking place now are tied back to the same group of people thirty years ago when they were university kids messing with the occult. I didn’t figure out who the murderer was until right at the end. And I liked that the personal side of the story was a little more emotional in this book. 4 ⭐️ Thank you to @netgalley and @stormbooks_co for this eARC. This book publishes March 25.

"Silent Souls" by Gwyn Bennett is a well written book that keeps you guessing until the very end. This book has many twist and turns that don't expect,
Harrison gets called into a murder scene with old Egyptian undertones. Melinda is the detective in charge of the case. When investigating the new case she finds out that it linked to a case in the past. As her and Harrison investigate what they learn keeps getting weirder. The more they learn about the victims the more they are at a loss. Finally things start to click into place for Harrison and he is able to help before more people get hurt.

Another mysterious case for Dr Harrison Lane. This book follows a thirty year old case of students who dabbled in a satanic cult and one of them died. Shortly after they meet up again, one of them is murdered in a very Indiana Jones style.

Very twisted, with a new murder clearly linked to an old case and involving all of the same people, but with no obvious suspect.
The book captures the atmosphere of the isolated cave in the Yorkshire hills, you can almost see the swirling mist descending! The case is seemingly impossible to solve but the determination of Dr Lane and the team he is working with leads the investigation through all sorts of suspicions and twists before the ultimate reveal.
A great read- you won't want to put it down!

This book is amazing! This was an author and book series i had never heard of and decided to take the plunge. I will be going back to book 1 because these are fantastic! You dont seem to have to read them in order because this book was such an easy read. Although I guessed the killer early on I wouldnt say that put me off reading the rest I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend to thriller/mystery lovers!
📚I was able to read an advanced copy of title thanks to NetGalley, Gwyn Bennett and Storm Publishing 📚

This was just brilliant. The series is ace but this book can definitely be read as a standalone. The weird Egyptian rituals, the blood and historic myths used alongside absolute terror makes this an absorbing read. The characters do their jobs well, be that police procedure or reviewing evidence and crime scenes and the little glimpses into each private life is great be it a kitten, a conversation or a love interest.

In Silent Souls, Dr. Lane is sent to a bizarre killing in a dark cave. Thirty years ago, a group of college students made a group honoring Set, the Egyptian god. They met in the cave and wanted to become more successful and elite. When a rockfall temporarily trapped two of their members, they all panicked and the group fell apart. Now, they have all received invitations to meet once again at the cave for a 30th reunion, but it soon turns to horror. With talk of satanic rituals and sacrifices, Dr. Lane is called in. More deaths follow, each equally horrific and suited to the role they played in the original group.
Dr. Lane is an interesting character and is undergoing some changes of his own. He is knowledgeable about many unusual arcane practices and debunks what appears to be mystical to find the real killer. The series continues to be fascinating.
Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

This book was fantastic!
I was invited and pre approved to read this book by Storm Publishing. I didn’t know it is part of a series, but I had no problems reading it without knowing any background.
I really loved Dr. Harrison Lane, he is the Head of the Ritualistic Behavioral Crime Unit, and it was so cool reading about what he does. The story is dark, filled with of surprises, packed with tension.
The female character is a kick ass, and you will love her confidence and professionalism.
Now, because I can’t resist, I am adding all the other books to my wishlist. I need to know more of what happened in the beginning of the series. Very entertaining and atmospheric.
Synopsis:-

Silent Souls (2025) by Gwyn Bennett is the tenth book of the Dr Harrison Lane crime mystery series. Working for the UK National Crimes Agency, Harrison has a PhD in Anthropology, specialising in ritual and religions. A group of friends visit the cave site of a tragic incident thirty years earlier and discover one of their former Uni-friends murdered. Dr Harrison is called into assist Detective Sergeant Melinda Falcon with the investigation, with the original case linked with an Egyptian religious cult. Despite its suggestive supernatural element (spooky smoke and voices), this is a classic English police procedural with an enjoyable three star read rating. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given. With thanks to Storm Publishing and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes.

4* You don't have to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this (but I'm off to check the back-series now).
This wasn't quite your standard police procedural, which made it refreshing, and to get a guy who relies on evidence, plus more than meets the eye, plus instinct, paired with a cop who seeks hard evidence, made for, well, a bit of a novel novel, no pun intended. That the latter had to deal with sexism and a dishonest boss grated the tiniest, as right now, there's a feel of 'all cops are bastards to a degree' in a lot of similar novels. I think the UK's police forces are trying to root out rot, so tarring all, yeah, is a bit tiresome.
Anyway, it's a decent tale, though a sad one. Did the dead get what they deserved? Kind of. Did the killer deserve what happened to them in the years since the tragedy? Shades of grey. There was also an unexpected reveal that I couldn't quite see the authorities cooperating with, but I was fine suspending disbelief a bit. I liked how Harrison's mind worked, and how believably kick-butt the female lead was in her own quiet way. It's a pity that they won't be paired up in the next book. I'd also like to see more of Ryan and his plans for a house in the country that Harrison is going to make happen, plus more of his little feline friend.
