ARC Review of A Captive Situation by Tijan
* * * * *
A mafia romance that is bound to kidnap your attention and steal you away. Wrong place, wrong time, right man.

Sawyer escaped to New York to avoid the reality of what had happened to her sucky love life, and focus on reuniting her family.
What wasn't on her bucket list was getting annoyed by a man on the train, have a mini break down, get arrested only then to be saved from the same annoying man from the subway, and just to add a bonus, get shot at by mysterious killers.
If that wasn't all, mystery man has decided to kidnap her for her own safety.
He says he was a cop.
Now he's the Don of a mafia.
Whoever he was, no matter how ridiculously attractive he is with eyes that make her burn and a natural aura that gets her hot and bothered, she eneds to get the hell away from him.
Sadly, Jake isn't going to let her go that easily.

Great read, as expected form Tijan.
You are not left bored or just waiting around for what is going to happen next. We are given gun fights, bad man torture scenes, frisky bantering, soft emotional moments, family drama and toxic exes.
Poor Sawyer, I can't tell which I feel sorry more about for her: her nasty ex who wasted nearly two decades of her life screwing her over, or being kidnapped MULTIPLE TIMES, or whenever things start to get spicy with Jake they get bloody interupted by second thoughts or bad guys. Let the woman have an orgasm!!
Jake's life ain't to swell either. He has a path he wishes to chose but is thrown into that bloody tank of sharks wanting his status and power. Betrayed and already suffering loss, he's driven to remove his enemies whilst removing both himself and Sawyer from danger.
5 stars of action packed drama.

Sawyer wanted an adventure and what she found was Jake, former cop and now head of the mafia. How she got involved in this situation was a whirlwind of events that now she needs to be with him to stay safe.

Third in the series of Kings of New York, I haven't read the others but this can be read as a stand alone.

Sawyer heads to NYC with a purpose but oh boy, she ends up striking off things that are not even in her list. She unknowingly ends up getting entangled with ex-cop / mafia man Jake.

To keep her safe, Jake ends up kidnapping Sawyer. But Sawyer is one feisty lady indeed and after going through some tough times, she has learnt to fight back. She is definitely not a princess waiting to be rescued.

As more and more secrets are revealed, the pacing becomes more exciting too. I totally loved Sawyer’s family and I can understand where she gets her feistiness from. While there is suspense and violence, the light-hearted moments help to balance the mood in the book.

Oh my gosh! This mafia story is intense, real, full of action, danger, and secrets. It’s emotionally charged at times, but it’s also funny and had me laughing out loud!

Get ready for a thrilling ride! This story is a wild mix of mafia, kidnapping, and romance. It’s about two lonely, broken-hearted strangers who keep bumping into each other by chance. Fate has a funny way of bringing people together, doesn’t it?

This is Jake Worthing and Sawyer’s journey and it is definitely interesting!

They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Well these two definitely have their work cut out for them after Jake finds out he, as well as Sawyer has a price on their head, simply because she was seen with him.

“ I was taking her whether she wanted to go or not. She was mine. It was that simple. My captive. My cross to bear. My woman. Mine.”

Although it took me awhile to get into the start of this story. I loved these two lunatics together. Sawyer’s outspoken personality and her in-your-face, family of strong older women were something else! Lol!

Couldn’t put this down!

This book was kind of all over the place for me. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the FMC nor was I head over heels over the MMC either. The chemistry was just lacking.

Homegirl just kept on getting captured. It was excessive.

But I did enjoy the villain, Creight and his fascination with Green. They played their roles really well in this book. He’s the psycho cousin and Green seems to be the only person who can tame him. I’m honestly pretty ecstatic for their story.

What To Expect:
• Romantic Suspense
• Mafia Romance
• Good Girl x Bad Boy
• Insta-Lust
• Grumpy x Sunshine
• Heroine in Danger

Thank you to the author, VPR, and NetGalley for an ARC of this title. All opinions are my own.

This is Book 3 in the Kings of New York Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is a dark mafia romance between Sawyer and Jake. These flawed but likeable characters and the unique plot make for an intriguing read. It is a love story peppered with drama, danger, suspense, violence, action, steam, twists, and passion, plus appealing secondary characters to keep the reader interested. The main characters share an undeniable chemistry and connection. An emotional roller coaster.

Tijan has done it again!!! I don't know how she manages to PERFECTLY execute a mafia don, hysterical rom-com combo, but she BLEW it out of the water!!!! This was hysterical! FMC was a surprise from the start in the absolute best way! MMC and FMC were the most explosive dynamic and it was fireworks from the start!!! MMC was exactly what you what from a NYC, mafia don hunk! What I love so much that Tijan accomplished was the total unexpected layers in the personalities in both FMC and MMC! Support characters were amazing! Absolutely hysterical and the story line was fun, suspenseful, comedic, exciting and overall a total 5 star read! As always, Tijan delivered the spice! The scenes were *chefs kiss* 🥰 !!! So a fun, incredible read and I can't wait for another One!!!!!😍😍

The first two romances in this series hooked me in to this world, but Jake and Sawyer's story is my absolute favorite. It's an accidental association fraught with non-stop action, danger, and suspense, and a side of falling in love during all the turmoil.

Poor Sawyer just wants to be a tourist in NYC, forget the mess she left behind at home in Montana, and meet the cousin she's never known. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time throws her headlong into a dangerous world and gets her the dubious honor of being attached at the hip to mafia boss Jake Worthing.

Alongside the usual mafia intrigue and excitement, we get a cast of quirky characters who steal the show, especially once Sawyer's family shows up from Montana. Secrets are revealed, rifts are healed, and let's just say that neither NYC nor the mafia are prepared for the havoc of the Montana Matsens once they insert themselves into the drama.

While this is a happy for now and can be read as a standalone, there’s much more adventure to come with Jake and Sawyer in One Last Call. Truly, I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to return to Jake and Sawyer's world because I'm desperate for more! This one goes to the head of the list for swoony anti-heroes and mafia romance. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you won’t regret giving Jake and Sawyer a chance.

I should have known ACS was going to be a stellar read.
Tijan didn't disappoint. Hands down one of my favorite mafia series ever.
Her writing and storytelling was superb a usual. This book is extremely well written. It truly captivated me.
The story had so many twists and turns and I didn’t want it to end so soon.
I just love his authors work and I hope there is more coming in this outstanding series!

3.5 'Little lunatic' Stars!

We are back in Tijan's Kings of New York series because tomorrow she is releasing the third installment called A Captive Situation. This one is all about Jake (you’ve met his brother Justin in the previous books) and Sawyer (a woman that has been left by her college sweetheart on their wedding day and needs a distraction). Sawyer is in her thirties and decides now is the time to complete her bucket list and go to NYC. There she meets the dark, grumpy and hot Jake Worthing who just happens to “kidnap” her after their second meeting in a police station. Don’t ask! Then some unexpected and dark things start to happen around them, they are forced to stay together and that’s when sparks start flying.

She was mine. It was that simple.
My captive. My cross to bear. My woman. Mine. Just fucking mine.

I quite enjoyed the chemistry between this couple, especially the second half of the book. They are definitely very different characters, even comparing them with the other two couples in the series. This book just has a different vibe, due to Jake’s situation and new "employment", but it’s still quite enjoyable. So, if you are a fan of mafia romance and want to catch up with the other characters, you can grab a copy of this baby in just a few hours!

A Captive Situation by Tijan is book 3 in the Kings of New York series. This book follows Jake and Sawyer. Sawyer just fled to NYC as her ex fiancé left her for her best friend. Jake just left the police force as his mafia family decided to make him the head. He wanted to lead a clean life even though that would never be. Through chance meetings Jake and Sawyer became stuck together for protection when a bounty was put on their heads. I loved the banter between these characters and the chemistry. I loved the possessiveness Jake had for Sawyer and he would do anything to protect her. Overall, this was a good read even though at times things felt repetitive. Would definitely recommend this series!

3.5 ⭐️

This one started a little slow for me, but then picked up. It was fun, but I could’t quite connect with the story. It was fast paced, but a little chaotic.

I enjoyed the MMC, Jake, so much. He was a perfect blend of protective but not smothering. I felt so bad for Sawyer and all that poor girl was dealing with.

This is my first book by this author, and wonder if starting in the beginning of this series might have been a better experience.

I really likes this book which isn't surprising because I have always been a fan of Tijan's books. This is the third book in the Kings of New York Series.

Sawyer is the FMC who is 36 but a little immature for sure. She spent the last 18 years with someone who leaves her for her best friend and marries said friend on what was suppose to be Sawyers wedding. Sawyer needs to get away so what better place to go than to New York.

Jake is our moody playboy MMC. He was a cop but recently retires after his brother passes away. Even though he is a cop his family is also linked with the Mafia and now that the head of the family passed it's passed down to him. Now some people are not happy about that so they try to kill him.

Jake and Sawyer first meet on the subway when Sawyer is literally about to have a nervous break down thinking about how her life is a mess. They keep running into each other which in turn causes them to be on the run together. Sawyers family is hilarious. The insta-love was a little cringe but other than that I really liked it.

I would recommend this book to a friend for sure.

A Captive Situation is book 3 in the Kings of New York series and is advertised as a standalone in an interconnected series. Technically you could read this book as a standalone, however I would definately recommend you read the series in order to understand the background.

This book follows Sawyer and Jake's journey, which starts off with Sawyer arriving in NYC, after being jilted by her boyfriend of 2 decades!! Jake, an ex cop and now head of his mafia family, meets Sawyer not once but twice by pure chance. I wouldn't say they had real chemistry between them but definately insta lust. As is all things Mafia, Sawyer and Jake find themselves in the middle of a dangerous shootout, which results in Jake basically kidnapping Sawyer to keep her safe.

Sawyer does come off as rather immature for her age, whilst Jake is brash and protective. Their journey was somewhat chaotic, but had some hilarious moments as well as twists along the way.

Couldn't get into this one

A CAPTIVE SITUATION is book #3 in Tijan's series Kings of New York . Am opposites attract, morally grey hero, touch her and die, heroine in danger, mafia romance which, unfortunately for me, was a bit flat. I normally devour Tijan's books, but I just couldn't get into this one.

Sawyer, the FMC, grated on my nerves. For a 36-year-old woman she came across as naive and a bit scatterbrained, I couldn't understand her thinking. She has fled to New York after just coming out of an almost twenty-year relationship, to find her cousin and to attempt to repair family relationships. Jake Worthing, the MMC, has just handed in his badge and is now apparently the head of his mafia family. Yeah, there's a lot going on in this story, so much so that I kept losing track of everything. I didn't feel any connection between Sawyer and Jake except for the spice they shared, which was really HOT!!! Their instant attraction, initially seeing each other for the first time on the subway, just didn't sit right with me.

From the beginning, there was just so much going on, too many characters, lots of subplots, and so many twists and turns. While I understand some readers may love this story, unfortunately it wasn't one of my favourites from Tijan. It won't stop me from reading her again though.

What was supposed to be a tourist get away after heartbreaking events for Sawyer to rethink her life turned dangerous in a matter of hours. Jake runs into a women he just can’t seem to shake off while having life changing events coming to him left and right. They now have to face danger together while trying to process their life changing circumstances and doubts of the future, while exploring the connection they both strongly feel.

The story stars off slow until it got to a point where situations where rising and made me the reader love the pace, some side characters got my attention that I will have to go research the ones that are already out, and keep a look out for following releases. The way the story progressed got me hooked. Sawyer is a big sunshine while Jake is the complete opposite but she brings something out of him that he’s never felt before. I loved the side characters and how they were brought into the story, and how they made this story more lighthearted by having them in certain parts in the book.

Loved it!! I found the story very amusing. It's full of action, and entertaining strong characters. They are all lunatics! Plus I love a bad guy in control and a woman in a mission with a meddling family. What could go wrong? Everything. I didn't put the book down. Jake and Sawyer had me hooked.

A Captive Situation continues the Kings of New York series, but you don't have to have read those to enjoy this one. Honestly, I read the first one and didn't care for it. It was slow and couldn't keep my interest. I am excited to say A Captive Situation was different!

Poor Sawyer-she's with a guy for 10+ years and gets dumped before their wedding because his side piece is pregnant. In the small town they live in, there is no escaping the gossip. Oh and that side piece-her former best friend. She runs to New York in an attempt to put it behind her and find her long lost cousin. Sawyer is a weirdo-in all the funniest ways! A few other readers felt she was immature, but I think she is just weird. I loved that about her. She is open and honest and only starting to realize what she actually deserves from others. Her family is hilarious!

Jake just resigned his post as an organized crime cop when he meets Sawyer on the subway. Then again in the police station. And she is with him during two attempted assassinations. He does what any man in his position would-kidnaps her. For her own safety.  Jake has not had an easy life. He lost his brother recently, and that was pretty much the only person he was living for. Now his family (of the Worthing Mafia) are trying to kill him. This leads to him and Sawyer being chased all over the city, attempting to avoid death and find a way to get the hit off them. Their relationship sort of fast tracks during all this danger and drama, but I really loved them together. Overall, if you like murder plots, mafia drama, and crazy families, A Captive Situation is a perfect pick!

A Captive Situation is book 3 in the Kings of New York, an Interconnected Standalone series. This book was deliciously good. I am a Tijan fan and this one did not disappoint. I could not put this book down from the moment I picked it up. Our two main characters are absolute lunatics, but you can’t help but love them.

“I don’t know who your new boyfriend is, but Beck is going to shit his pants when he sees him. He walks and breathes violence.”

Jake Worthing ex-cop turned Mafia Don is our Morally grey hero. He is of course ridiculously handsome and a billionaire with all his inherited family money. He wants nothing to do with his family or the mafia life. Sawyer escaped to New York after being jilted by her ex-fiancé and just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s innocent and kind of a lunatic. Her love of her family and the way they surround her is so awesome. Her Aunts are hysterical and add some comedic relief during suspenseful situations.

She was the reason my past was being unearthed inside of me, because I was willing to set the world on fire if it meant she would be unscathed by it.

This story has twists that I didn’t necessarily see coming and some things that were left unfinished. I am assuming that is in preparation of book 4 in this series (sneak peek at the end). I am hoping to find out more about Blake and Lane (hello Psyco!) but time will tell if we get to.

“I want you. I want all of you. Forever.”

This book started a bit slow for me, and I wasn’t sure I’d connect with the story, but I’m glad I kept going. It’s definitely different from Tijan’s other books, but in an interesting way.
Sawyer is quirky, emotional, and super loyal, even if her choices sometimes made me shake my head. Jake is intense, cold, dangerous, protective, and 100% morally gray. The chemistry between them is strong, though I didn’t always feel a deep emotional bond. I enjoyed the action and mafia drama, it added tension and suspense that kept me hooked. Sawyer’s journey from heartbreak to finding her strength was a highlight. Jake’s world is dark, and it was fascinating seeing Sawyer thrown into it. I also loved the side characters, especially Sawyer’s chaotic but loving family. While it wasn’t my favorite in the series, it’s still a gripping story with steam, danger, and heart. Curious to see what happens next!
