Wow! Okay so this book starts off with a couple who met and married after each losing their own spouses due to tragic accidents, Drew happens upon a hefty lottery winning, but has an unnerving guilty secret that she has been keeping and cannot cash out on her winnings if she cashes out the lotto ticket., With her husbands business failing financially and nasty sister in law, she is torn on what to do. She would love to cash out and take care of her son after all of the tragedies they have faced in life. Throughout the whole book, I was on my toes and the edge of my seat. I was constantly trying to figure out who was holding the biggest secret! The twists and turns through had me in a chokehold. By the end, I thought I had figured everything out and nope! There were still things to unravel. Very very good read and I would read this again in the future!

I chose The New Marriage mainly because of the cover, then I was intrigued by the blurb, and I went in with an open mind. Early on, it felt like it could be a solid domestic thriller, but by the halfway point it had become repetitive and frustratingly slow, with little progression or new developments.

I liked the world building and thought the setting and characters were fleshed out well, but the main character felt incredibly naive, making some truly baffling decisions. It was hard to root for someone who seemed so unaware of everyone around her. I’m usually happy to suspend disbelief if the ride is fun or engaging – sadly this wasn’t one of those books for me. The twists piled on top of each other and became more far-fetched as the story progressed, and the final act was so dramatic it bordered on soap opera territory.

That said, I didn’t hate the read. The beginning had promise, and I was curious to learn the secrets hinted at early on. But it definitely wasn’t fast paced, and I wouldn’t call it gripping either. Just a bit too much drama and not enough substance.

I’d like to thank Bookouture, NetGalley and L.G. Davis for this ARC.

The new marriage by L.G. Davis is a psychological thriller with a bunch of twists.

Drew (The wife) is hiding who she is, under the bed theres an envelope that contains a secret that would tear them apart. Mark (The Husband) knows his wife is lying about who she is, but Mark is also hiding a secret, about what happened to his last wife.

This book confused me a bit at first as your given a bunch of names, like Jason who is Drew's 20 year old son and Sarah who is Mark's sister. Mark used to be married to Melody, and now Sarah is annoyed that Drew is turning Melody's old studio onto a library. We also are introduced to Dean who is Jason's Dad and Drew's ex husband.

Despite the initial confusion, I enjoyed the book, the suspense and all the twists along the way. Thank you to L.G. Davis for partnering with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

The New Marriage by L.G. Davis is a fast-paced, twist-filled psychological thriller that keeps readers on edge from the very first page. The story follows a woman navigating the aftermath of her husband’s betrayal—only to find herself thrust into a second marriage that is anything but ordinary. As secrets unravel and unsettling truths come to light, the novel expertly explores themes of trust, manipulation, and the lengths people will go to for a second chance.

Davis builds a chilling atmosphere with precise pacing and a protagonist whose vulnerability makes her both relatable and compelling. The suspense grows steadily as the new relationship reveals cracks, keeping the reader questioning everyone’s motives. With layered characters and a satisfyingly shocking conclusion, The New Marriage delivers the kind of domestic suspense that fans of authors like Freida McFadden and K.L. Slater will appreciate.

A gripping, emotionally taut read that questions whether we ever really know the person we’ve vowed to love—again.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

The New Marriage was, in my opinion, a little slow for a thriller. I enjoyed the book overall, but the plot felt a bit overdone, and I guessed all of the twists fairly early on—they just weren’t that surprising.

That said, it’s an easy read, ideal for a holiday or a casual weekend book. The story isn’t overly complex, and the characters are straightforward, so it’s easy to pick up and put down without losing track of what’s happening.

We are in the town of Stoneview. The driver realizes something is wrong with the way the car is acting and loses control, crashing. The driver says that it was not an accident, but a pre-planned crash. Who would do such a thing and why!
Mark's first wife passed away and he is now married to Drew who has many secrets. Drew has a 20-year old son, and Mark has an unfriendly sister who resents Drew's presence in Mark's life. .She disapproves of Drew, and is not happy
Drew does have a secret that must stay silent. She bears heartaches of her own, along with fears and a frantic desire to stay the course. Mark's sister has secrets of her own.
Jason, Sarah's son has secrets too.. What a dysfunctional bunch.
These people seem to have no moral compass at all and the consequences of their deceit keep piling up.
As the story unraveled, I couldn't stop reading until I finished the book.
The author has written a twisty, modern psychological thriller that features twists and manipulation throughout. We never really know what this family is really about...until the ending. It is almost as if the author is twisting us around too.
It was shocking and worth reading, and... it made me mad.
Even the ending was, well, shocking and stopped me in my tracks.
Thanks to th author and publisher for allowing me to read the ARC copy.
All opinions are my own.

I seem to be in a minority, but this book didn't work for me. It started out well but about halfway through I just couldn't get into any of the characters and I DNF.

L.G. Davis's The New Marriage plunges readers into a domestic thriller where apparent happiness masks a chilling foundation of deception. This is a story told through the shifting perspectives of a husband and wife, each harboring dangerous secrets that could unravel their seemingly perfect union.

"The Wife," who goes by Drew, hands her husband Mark his coffee, her hands shaking from the weight of her hidden truths. She knows Mark is concealing something profound, but her own secrets are far deeper, including an envelope under their bed holding a life-altering revelation and the fact that Mark doesn't even know her real name. The most perilous secret of all: the true reason they met so soon after his first wife's death.

Meanwhile, "The Husband," Mark, reflects on meeting Drew at the hospital, both grieving, seemingly finding a second chance at happiness. But he, too, has discovered Drew's lies, finding evidence of her false identity among old photographs. Determined to uncover why Drew is so scared and what she's hiding, Mark is prepared to go to extreme lengths for the people he loves, hinting at a dark truth about his own past—specifically, "what happened to my last wife."

The New Marriage is a masterclass in psychological suspense, a taut narrative where every shared glance and whispered word is loaded with unspoken danger. It's a compelling read for anyone who enjoys a story where trust is a fragile illusion and the past is a ticking time bomb, promising a thrilling descent into a marriage built on a foundation of lies and lethal secrets.

What a bunch of horribly messed up people! Ha! The New Marriage was full of twists, turns and secrets, but I had a hard time connecting to or really liking any of the characters. Some had rough upbringings. Some had difficult things to cope with in the past. But do those things justify their bad behavior? I’ve always enjoyed Davis’s books, but this one wasn’t quite at the level of her previous works. However, it’s still worth picking up for a quick, entertaining read. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital ARC.

The New Marriage by LG Davis is a captivating story about love, trust, and the complexities of relationships. The book dives deep into the emotional ups and downs of a couple navigating big life changes. I really enjoyed how real and raw the characters felt – their struggles and growth were so relatable.

While the pacing was a bit slow at times, the story’s emotional depth really kept me invested. If you’re into relationship-driven dramas that explore both the highs and lows, this one’s for you!

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers with a domestic twist, The New Marriage by L.G. Davis is the kind of book that grabs you early and doesn’t let go.

The story follows Drew, a woman trying to navigate what seems like an ideal marriage with her husband, Mark—until she begins to uncover unsettling truths. From the beginning, Davis does a great job planting subtle clues that something isn’t quite right. What I appreciated most was how the tension built steadily, not just from shocking events but through the emotional weight of secrets, mistrust, and manipulation.

Without spoiling anything, there’s a major twist later in the book that genuinely caught me off guard—which is rare for me in this genre. The dynamic between Drew and Mark’s sister, though, felt a bit uncomfortable at times and might leave you with mixed feelings, especially if you’re sensitive to morally grey or manipulative character interactions.

That said, if you enjoy books where no one can be trusted, and every chapter pulls the rug out from under you, this is definitely worth reading. It’s fast-paced, emotionally charged, and just twisted enough to keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Really enjoyable thriller. It's a pretty overdone plot, but I thought it was executed nicely. Lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and I found it a bit of a refreshing take on a pretty tired troupe! 4 stars!!
