i loved the movie 'ferris bueller's day off' so when i found out that that was the inspiration / premise of this book, i thought it sounded like a fun time!! i was aware this was a young adult novel, which usually doesn't bother me, but this time around, it just felt VERY 'ya,' maybe more towards the lower age range of that category - which is fine, it just meant i didn't feel like the target audience for this book. that said, k. l. walther did a great job of conveying the excitement and adventure of the four main chaaracters, and i was invested in them being able to pull it off successfully (albeit the story being relatively low stakes). i also would have preferred the romance storylines to be a little more prominent the whole way through, rather than just at the end, as this made the end feel super slow to get through, but overall it was a cute read!!
thank you to netgalley and harper collins uk audio for the advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was soooo cute!!
I really loved the premise and the characters were all individually so well rounded and interesting. The multiple narratives worked seamlessly in giving them all enough airtime to have a past present and future that readers care about, without feeling like an influx of too much content.
The coupling worked brilliantly and the chemistry was the perfect amount for a YA feel without turning the book entirely into a romance and maintaining friendship as the key focus.
I always love a narrative contained by location/time so the fact that this all took place in one day was massively appealing to me and the history between the characters worked well to lengthen the time without relying purely on flashbacks.
My only fault would be that it is quite predictable and a little unbelievable. But - - that’s okay! It was a very sweet and enjoyable read.

This was a fun YA contemporary read based on Ferris Bueler's day off and I could see those vibes pretty strongly but with it's own slant. This small crew of friends, close and estranged, coupled with some siblings made for complexities galore. These friends were all pretty committed students so seeing them do a '180' and take off on a road trip was funny, especially some of the anxiety around that.
There was enough plot and sense of adventure to keep this story going and my interest piqued. However, this definitely felt like the kind of YA contemporary that will appeal most to that age range with some limitations for adult readers. Many YA books appeal broadly across the ages, but this one showed the immaturity of those ages realistically and therefore wasn't quite as engaging for me.
Audio narration wise, this was very well narrated with multiple narrators taking on the main four cast members.
Thank you Electric Monkey for the review copy.

I enjoy the odd little bit of YA fiction, I like to know what my kids might be looking out for. This was definite YA, in fact until later in the title where there are hints of sexual content I’d have pitched this at a much younger age group, the characters are 17 yet they seemed far less mature.
Repetitive and a bit cringey and cheesy tbh, but I can bet that the right cast could make a classic teen movie out of this. Cute, sweet. Gave me 10 things I hate about you vibes and left me humming Can’t take my eyes off you.
The narration was good from the full cast but it has to be said that the narrators definitely didn’t sound like teens.
Huge thanks to Harper Collins UK audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC 🎧

“While We’re Young” by K.L. Walther is a YA romance inspired by Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
I received an ALC from HarperCollins UK Audio via Netgalley. Opinions from this review are completely my own.
Grace is a high school senior and decides to plan a day off with her two friends, Isa and Everett. She is trying to reconcile their friendship after they broke up freshman year. Grace did not tell her brother James about this plan.
I liked that the narration of the audiobook is done by different narrators for each main character. Andrew Eiden, Frankie Corzo, Valerie Rose Lohman, Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes are doing a great job with each teenager POV. Even if it is dual narration, it is good to have different voices for the 2 girls and the 2 boys, as they have different backgrounds and the voices should be different.
The story is nice and I would say it is for a young audience. Even if they are 17, they act a bit immature, but this is not a bad thing. I liked the friendship between the girls and the way they supported each other. Also, there are two romantic stories in the background that have a nice ending. Overall I enjoyed the story, even if I am not part of the main audience.

thank you so much to harpercollins audio and netgalley for the audiobook!
the audiobook was so good and each narrator did such a wonderful job. everything was clear and they did an amazing job bring this story and the characters to life!
onto the book itself:
the nostalgia vibes were there. as a huge fan of ferris bueller's day off, this was amazing and i felt like i was reading the modernised version of it (i would love this as a movie!!)
i loved all the characters. Grace, Isa, Everett, and James were everything. i loved how we were told their history between each other once in a while but still focused on the present too. they each had their own issues to solve but came together so well. i just loved every chapter and the multi pov, and the ending was great!! it was a cute and fun novel and everything i needed right now
also the romances were so cute but i loved the focus on the friendships too!

this was so cute, as a big lover of ferris bueller's day off this was quite literally everything i expected it to be.
i adored all of the characters and not only the things they got up to but also just their history with one another and how they interacted with each other and the world around them.
the narrators, Andrew Eiden; Frankie Corzo; Valerie Rose Lohman; Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes did such an amazing job at bringing life and adding depth to them.
overall this was a really light and fun read.

I love the narrators for this! They really brought it to life. The writing style was good in itself however, I found it hard to follow who the characters were and what they were doing and who they were to each other. Some of them were also quite unlikeable but I do tend to like unlikeable characters as it makes me feel something in a book. Would still recommend this despite struggling to follow at times.

‘While we’re young’ by K.L Weather is a YA romance/general novel. It follows a group of friends going on a last hurrah before they finish school. A group of doo-gooders they want to break the rules and have a bit of fun.
This was a really fun novel, the characters were sweet and endearing. The romance was sweet and believable and I liked the way they were tied together through the plot. I would highly recommend if looking for a sweet read.
The narration of the audiobook was awesome. Having a full cast really makes a difference. They worked very well together.
Thanks to #netgalley for this ARC

Isa, Everett, Grace and James have a long complicated history together. Before heading off to college Grace is set on getting the group back together. She comes up with an elaborate scheme to get her friends out of school for a daytrip to Philadelphia. Just like the old days. All she has to do is convince Isa to help kidnap Everett and avoid her brother or at least that’s what she thought. Their relationships are more complicated than expected, can their hearts withstand the wreckage?
This is such a sweet read!! I was a bit unsure whether the short timeline (a day) would work but it did. Since the characters already share an extensive history theres plenty to work with. What brought down my rating slightly is the secrecy surrounding their romantic feelings, just speak up already!? However they handled the fallout with a lot of maturity.
All four mcs have chapters from their own pov which works really well. My personal favorite is probably Everett, his father used to bring them on these trips and recently passed from brain cancer (TW). Other than that it’s a light read centered around friendship and young love.
If you’re in the mood for a YA romance with not one but two adorable love stories you have to pick this one up!
