Another beautifully written story by Sally Page. Her characters always feel real to me. The writing brings me right into their lives and I feel their sadness, frustration, happiness and joy.
This book had me smiling, giggling and sobbing - much to the consternation of my colleagues as I sat reading it in my lunch break. 5 stars from me

A lovely, heartwarming tale that’s just what is needed right now. The characters are well developed and feel like friends almost immediately and the relationships that grow are warm and comforting. A hug in a book!

Barry a retired Engish teacher starts a group for people to try different kinds of art or craft to enter in a competition. Each person has a totally different personality and they don't all fit in with each other to start with. Some are arty and some haven't a clue where to start. As they start sharing their life stories the club begins to be more about friendship and relieving loneliness than about an art competition.
I really enjoyed this book ,it's a bit different from what I would usually read and made a good change.

What a beautiful book about a group of people brought together over curiosity of a card on the notice board in a cafe. As the group start to learn new skills they also start to bond and everyone of them is changed in some way by this group of people. As their stories start to be told we fall in love with everyone of them and I was routing for all of them through the book. This is one of those books that leaves a mark on your heart it is a beautiful read.

This book is simply joyful, About friendships, relationships and so much more.

When Kate spots a card in her local cafe, it includes just 6 words. Every day, a new quote from Shakespeare is added to it, with no explanation.

The car eventually leads to great things - a community of people coming together to explore their creative sides, supporting each other when times are tough.

This book was an exceptional read, a warm embrace when you most need it. I loved it. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I'm a big fan of Sally Page but I admit I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have her others. I couldn't really get into the characters for some reason. It was still a decent read though

I had two weeks holiday approaching, so I kept this to one side and I'm very glad I did.
Sally Page's descriptions are there on every page to savour as Norfolk is brought to life.
The characters are likeable and believable. I'd love to be a part of this creative group and, on how I would love to see Pia's beautiful finished quilt.
I laughed and I cried and didn't want it to end.

This was a another delightful book by Sally Page. She has the ability to get into the heart of a character and expose it to the reader, sometimes gently, sometimes with a tough yank. This is a warmhearted character that cares for her fellow humans and it was a joy to watch/read as the storyline opened up. I will always pick up the next Sally Page book. She gets it, she really does.

A warm and cosy story about a diverse group of people who gather together ostensibly to enter an arts competition. In reality all have experienced a range of losses or a change of circumstance, so are seeking connection and companionship, while exploring their creative abilities. Page has the ability to write about different characters and give them distinct voices and personalities, making you care about each and everyone. There’s humour in the story and I found myself snorting with laughter several times.

After being immersed in gruesome scenes in Vietnam and discovering historic murder graves Ireland, in other books I’m currently reading, I found this like sinking into a hot bath, just what I needed!

Six Little Words intersperses quotes from Shakespeare, nature writing and lovely descriptions of the North Norfolk Coast. If you do not feel like being creative in some way at the end, I would be surprised.

The only thing that rankled was men in their early sixties were repeatedly referred to as old!

This would appeal to readers of Rachel Hore, Philippa Ashley and Jenny Colgan.

If you enjoy Six Little Words I would also recommend The Book of Beginnings by the author. It was a big hit at my bookclub.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

Fabulous. A artist recovering from cancer, a retired teacher, a human rights lawyer, a cafe owner and several more come together to produce creative pieces to enter into a competition. This story weaves their life’s together and builds friendships.

‘To be on not to be’ that is indeed the question, pinned on orange card in Luigi’s coffee shop in coastal Norfolk. The six words have other words added to it on the days following its appearance and astonishingly, it even has an insta account! Among the regulars curiously looking at the card are Kate and Bardy. It seems this tantalising quote will lead them to a local community group with the objective of sparking or reigniting creativity. Bardy, a retired English teacher, is struggling with writer’s block whereas as Kate has several issues to grapple with. Can the group help each other to find that inner spark and more?

In a world that seems to be going increasingly mad, this is a soothing antidote and a wonderful distraction. The characters are lovely, they’re a diverse group but all are crafted well and so likeable ( maybe not you Tash but thankfully your mustard yellow aura fails to dominate the proceedings!).

I love the appropriate quotes from the Bard at the beginning of the chapters, the use of Shakespeare in the formation of the group and indeed, in the character of Bardy. It’s used cleverly and the creative idea it spawns are fabulous. Each chapter all has the arriving or departing bird life which is a delightful reference to this part of the U.K. The glorious setting gets the artistic juices flowing in several direction and it’s used to great effect. There’s a bit of everything to suit all tastes.

It’s also genuinely funny in places and I find myself chuckling out loud on more than one occasion. This is often courtesy of Leonard whose refusal to wear his hearing aids leads to several faux pas. There’s really good dialogue, some wonderful lively discussions, plenty of cake/ pastries and a glass or two of wine.

It’s obviously a novel that focuses on the courage to find something within yourself but it’s also about friendship and it’s fluctuating dynamics, loss and grief, love, health issues, kindness and understanding.

As well as the lovely characters there’s a delightful whippet called Noy who is not entirely responsible for some colourful scenes.

A lovely, engaging, immersive read.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HarperCollins, HarperFiction for the early copy in return for an honest review.

I found this book a really lovely gentle read.

A new community group which encourages locals to rediscover their hidden talents brings a group of people together each nervous to begin with, but soon becoming each other's cheerleaders and firm friends.

Kate is divorced and has spent her life bringing up her girls but now with them flown the nest she finds the courage to take up painting, a dream she has had for many years,

Brady is separated from his wife and has two grown up boys who he only sees occasionally as they live abroad, is a retired English teacher who has always harboured a dream to write.

The group brings these two characters together each having a connection but facing a few obstacles along the way.. The other members of the group are diverse , each having wonderful personalities, who I loved getting to know.

I loved learning about all the characters back stories.
Finding yourself and your dreams can be difficult but along with the help of friends it can make the process easier.

New beginnings, friendships, community, second chances and kindness are themes portrayed beautifully throughout this book . A really uplifting book which celebrates the best qualities that we may sometimes take for granted.

What a wonderful story! I already think this will be one of my favourite reads of 2025. Firstly, the Norfolk setting is brilliantly brought to life and I could easily picture the glorious beaches, the changing skies and tides and the abundant bird life. Secondly, the characters are all fantastic and I particularly enjoyed the mixed age range and the strong bonds that formed between the characters despite their differences in age and background. I especially enjoyed the slow burn romance between Bardy and Kate, and the relationship between Bardy and Lou; it was refreshing to read about such a strong and emotional male friendship. I can’t recommend this book highly enough! It’s the absolute definition of a feel good read.

This was a heartwarming story of an unusual mix of characters who find a common interest in being creative in their own ways and so become close friends. They learn to support each other despite their differences, overcome problems and grow in confidence. Sally Page is a master at describing human nature.

Adore Sally Page’s novels and this did not disappoint. A great mix of different characters and their own tales brought together in this gorgeous read

Another highly enjoyable read from Sally Page, I so enjoyed this one.
The disparate group of people that are brought together by Jon Shakespeare, nicknamed Bardy, to try their hand at something creative, is such a brilliant premise for this story.
Every single character is fully rounded and developed as the story goes on. We learn so much about each of their backstories, and how unlikely it is they would have ever got together without Brady’s efforts. I loved all of them, but younger Tay especially, tore at my heartstrings.
There is much humour and lightness of touch in the telling of this story. There is also pathos, as each of their characters, including Bardy, are faced with decisions they have made, rightly or wrongly, in their pasts.
The narrative never flags, so multi-faceted are these people, despite seeming so ‘ordinary’. I think that this is a rare skill possessed by this writer, taking ordinary people’s lives and pasts, and describing them in such an extraordinary and interesting way.
The intertwining of the narratives of each of them is so cleverly done, I am in awe of this author’s writing, yet again.
I look forward to Sally Page’s next work, though I shall revisit her previous books, to enjoy her sublime writing again.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book. I loved it!

A story about creativity and self discovery.
A real feel good novel, a group of strangers develop their creativity as they get to know each other and learn something about themselves along the way.

The exploration of creativity in different ways and the synesthesia aspect explored in the book really appealed to me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy to review - I’m going to go work on some drawing now inspired by this book..
