Cat dragon is "The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches" meets "the house in the cerulean sea" in a cozy autumnal whimsical fairytale of it's own. The characters were adorable and sometimes sassy enough to make me laugh out loud. It was the best cozy fantasy book I've read in a while. I highly suggest it!

The most whimsical magical book of 2025! I loved the pumkin family and of course all the Cat Dragons!
Sams done an amazing job of creating a cosy adventure with the best characters.

Thank you to One More Chapter, Netgalley and HarperCollins for allowing me to read and review the ARC for Cat Dragon.
Man, I wanted to love this book so badly. It had all the whimsical cosy magic, witches, a little romance, talking pumpkins, magical creatures and a cottage core fantasy world I wanted to dive right into and never leave.
Unfortunately, the authors writing style is what disappointed me. Don't get me wrong, it was eloquent, educated and incredibly descriptive, but way too complex for the vibes the story was supposed to be giving.
I'm all for a high fantasy with dense world building and a 14 page glossary, but what I didn't feel like doing whilst reading a cozy magic story was require a dictionary to get through it. That, combned with having to re-read sections over and over to try to figure out what was going on really did not make for a very enjoyable read, unfortunately.

This was such a cozy, whimsical fantasy! It's full of charm, chaos, and just the right dash of slow-burn romance. Aloysia is trying to juggle a rebellious magical farm, a not-so-cooperative feline familiar, and a very opinionated pumpkin patch—so the last thing she needs is her best friend’s annoyingly attractive brother showing up! But when a magical quest throws them together, sparks fly, and the adventure that unfolds is equal parts funny, heartfelt, and enchanting! I had such a fun time with this one—it’s the perfect mix of autumn vibes, light fantasy, and flirty bickering.

A very cosy and heart felt read with all the magic and autumnal vibes!! It definitely made the current grey and moody weather worth it😂
The main downside to this book was that I found it quite hard to follow and difficult in places. The random language changes and quotes seemed unnecessary and often out of place. For me, the pacing was veryyyy slow (I prefer fast paced so maybe that’s just my personal preference!). I did go into this book expecting an easy read but it game me the opposite unfortunately. I just don’t think I clicked with this book but I’m hoping other readers will as it has such promise especially for those who love a whimsical magical vibe.
Despite that, I think the world building elements and the magical creatures in this book did warm my heart!! The valley seemed like a wholesome place and Crow was my favourite character💗

3.5/5
As a lifelong cat and fantasy lover, this book felt like a cozy dream come true. Aloysia’s early struggle to bond with her cat dragon familiar was both sweet and sad at times.
The characters of Aloysia and Hollis were a mismatched pair: she’s a witch, he’s not magical, and their forced partnership after a messy “crime” leads to plenty of sparks and misunderstandings. I loved their dynamic, though Aloysia’s quick assumptions about Hollis sometimes frustrated me.
I found the world-building was rich, especially with the animal companions. The cat dragons were fascinating, and this story made me want one.
I found the pacing was slow at times, and the sprinkle of multiple languages, sometimes pulled me out of the story as it was sometimes hard to follow. Although, the mild mystery and slow-burning romance wrapped up with a satisfying twist made for a charming, whimsical read.
If you want a magical, cozy adventure this one's for you! Thank you NetGalley and publisher the the ARC!

Cat Dragon was a really cute and cozy read, perfect for a nice, relaxing day!
I have to admit, I struggled a bit at first with the pacing and writing style. I found myself rereading certain parts multiple times. But after a while, the story picked up, and I was able to get into it much more.
I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the variety of companions and characters, most of whom were quite likable. (Some less)
I'd recommend this if you're looking for a cute, cozy, and whimsical story to enjoy on a calm fall day!
Thank you Netgalley for this arc copy!

Magical, funny, and the coziest kind of read, I absolutely adored this book!
Cat Dragon was such a delightful surprise. It’s the kind of story that wraps you up like a blanket, full of charm, magic, and whimsical fun. I was hooked from the start!
The talking pumpkins were hilarious and full of personality, and the cat-dragons? Pure perfection. Aloysia is such a relatable, warm main character, far from perfect, but so easy to root for.
And Hollis? The classic “best friend’s annoying brother” who turns out to be... more. The chemistry was subtle but so sweet – the perfect slow-burn addition to a cozy fantasy.
I also really appreciated that the story had adventure and heart while staying comforting and light. Tangleroot Valley is the kind of magical world I wish I could visit!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this story!

This was a very good book! I am not the biggest fantasy reader, so when I went into this I was hesitant, and didn't think it would be my thing. However, I actually really liked it a lot! It was cosy, the magic system was super fun, and the characters were well thought out!

Cat Dragon is a cozy fantasy with a charming premise that promises magical creatures & a whimsical world. I appreciated the comforting atmosphere & the imaginative elements, especially the inclusion of magical beings, which added a lovely touch of wonder. That said, I found myself struggling with the writing style. The language felt overly complex at times, which made it difficult to stay immersed in the story. Additionally, the plot often jumped from one moment to another in a way that was hard to follow, leaving me somewhat disoriented. While the book didn’t fully work for me personally, I can see it appealing to readers who enjoy richly descriptive prose & a slower, more meandering narrative. If you're looking for a gentle fantasy escape with an unusual twist, this might be one to try.

This was such a cute and cozy fantasy. The perfect book to cuddle up with a cup of tea and a cat while it’s raining.
I did find the world building and magic really interesting but I had a little of trouble remembering everything. Once I got into the story I loved it.
I want to read more about Wick and Littlewick as they bond.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was enchanted by this cozy story right away, I enjoyed learning about Aloysia and her whole magical community in Tangleroot. I just loved everyone’s quirky ways.
Reading the story really relaxed me as I found out about how everything worked and who everyone was, the world building was fantastic and so original for this genre.
This will be perfect for fans of cozy fantasy who love really cute magical creatures.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc of this novel.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to deep dive into this one. I found myself struggling to get through the writing style. That isn’t to say this was awful, it seems very cozy and whimsical, I wish I could’ve gotten further into it but I just couldn’t. I think so many people would be definitely interested in this read. Thank you, again.
3/5 ⭐️

It was a fun read overall. I'm curious about the snippet at the end for sure and whether its an Easter egg or not.

Cat Dragon is definitely an enchanting homely adventure. Which is an absolute delight to read. It's whimsical, whitty and has a subplot of romance.
Aloysia Papplewick is a thirty something witch she helps those in need but she's yet to find her familiar a cat dragon and when the guardian of her home town suddenly goes on a rampage and falls ill it's up to her to go on a journey with the guardian's shepard (Hollis) to collect ingredients to make a spell to save their town and their magic.
The journey to save the guardian and collect ingredients for the spell was cosy and fun with Aloysia and Hollis and the addition of meeting new friends along the way. While it was definitely stressful at times with the magical creature encounters. I found being able to explore the world at a slower pace and taking everything in including the the magic system was a really nice change of pace. I especially enjoyed the magic system with the well of magic for each town and it being directly tied to the guardian. Overall the journey felt like I was travelling through the world with the crew similar to the hobbit.
The romance subplot was a soft slow burn and I adored it.
And the cat dragons these little guys are the stars ofc. Littlewick Aloysia's Cat Dragon is absolutely perfect. He's got soft red fur and is just depicted as being so cute! Now I really want a soft toy of a cat dragon to call my own.
Overall I absolutely adored this story, even if I did bawl like a baby at several points in the story. (Definitely recommend listening to the lord of the rings sound track while reading this book.)
I can definitely recommend Cat Dragon to those who want a softer fantasy, a slow burn and a enchanting magical adventure.
Thank you so much to One more chapter and Harper Collins for the E-ARC and for letting me be part of the cat dragon club.

Whimsical, cozy witches, dragons, found family—and yes, it’s as adorable as it sounds.
Cat Dragon was my first cozy fantasy in a long time, and it was such a delightful return to the genre. The charming cover immediately pulled me in, but it was the story—and surprisingly, a certain crow—that truly captured my heart.
This book offers more than just enchanting world-building. There’s adventure, action, and a heartfelt journey at its core. While there’s a touch of romance, the heart of the story belongs to Aloysia, her cat-dragon, and her personal quest of finding her sense of self.
I sincerely hope this becomes a series. I’d love nothing more than to return to the magic of Tangleroot Valley!
