I haven’t read any of the other titles in this series, but it’s fine as a standalone. I was drawn by Jonathon Keeble narrating. I like the tone of his voice and his delivery and I wasn’t disappointed.

Tanner is involved in investigating the murder of a recently released thief and a missing art treasure. The thief is kidnapped on release and the proverbial breaks loose, This is a well plotted mystery, cosy crime so if you’re not keen on gruesome detail, this is ideal. Tanner is a likeable and slightly flawed man. I warmed to him immediately and found his insight, approach and humour totally engaging. It’s undemanding but very enjoyable and ticked all the boxes for a cracking adventure to get list in.

Another instalment from DCI Tanner and his often feckless Norfolk based team of colleagues. A male Vera I suppose. This is the twelfth in a series and having only read one other, the author provided enough back story and fleshing out of the characters that again it really didn’t seem to matter, I was able to enjoy the story without feeling like I had missed out.

If you enjoy an old school detective, Tanner and the team are for you, the story is fairly short, so a quick read with a solid story.

Jonathan Keeblle’s narration was again brilliant.

DCI Tanner is at the prison for the release of an infamous thief. It goes wrong and the man kidnapped and then killed within minutes of release. Tanner and his team must find who is responsible and what happened to the painting stolen years ago.

Well written and well narrated novel (I listened to the audiobook). Enjoyable characters in this cosy crime novel set in Norfolk. Well paced and often witty. Tanner is not perfect and does not always seem to be in control. Plenty of action and twists, enjoy.
