A cleverly written enjoyable book. Interesting basis for the story is the taking of a mothers identity and this is well used with a good climax and conclusion. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

Thank you for allowing me to review this book. Emily Ray is an FBI agent in the team investigating child abduction. When Josie Vance goes missing insimilar circumstances to her own abduction as a child memories are reawakened. Can Emily solve this case and find Josie? The story is compelling, it is tragic, tense and heartwarming at times. Who can be trusted? As the mystery develops the twists held my interest and kept me questioning what I thought was happening. I was blindsided by the twist in the story.
A recommended book to those who enjoy mysteries and crime fiction.

Emily is the head supervisor of CARD, the federal agency that helps to find missing and abducted children. She's unique in her own experience as a survivor of child abduction herself, and has worked hard to be able to be a functional person despite it. Her newest case hits a little to close from home when a girl that looks exactly like she did, is taken from the same park as she was. She's able to discount it until messages start being delivered that make it clear her past has caught back up with her.

This was such an interesting premise, and I loved the background we were slowly fed of Emily. The twist at the mid point of the story was riveting and definitely had me keyed in to how that affected not only the case, but Emily's life and career moving forward. I also loved that she was a broken but successful survivor, who had a family and children of her own. Frequently, traumatized female leads are shown as workaholics who can't balance anything except their job and survival. This was a refreshing take that shows someone with issues who's proactively working on them, and has a fantastic support system she taps into regularly.

Even with the great plot, I did find the writing style to be a bit on the dry side. We got a great dive into Emily's psyche, but it felt like her own thoughts were stilted by the writing being more stiff than I'm used to. It didn't pull me out of the story too hard, but it did take me longer to really sink into the storyline. Once we got to the final third of the book it really takes off and I burned through the final resolution so quickly.

Overall this was a solid, medium-paced thriller, with interesting twists along the way.

Could it be the nanny, Elsie McBride? Or perhaps Ed Whirt, Palos Verdes PD, who was assigned to Emily's case and may be obsessed with her? Or is it a copycat? because Tibbs died inside a van burned beyond recognition. Perhaps it's Emily's big dark secret that has caused Josie's kidnapping.

this is her speciality as she was also once a victim to a predator who abducted her as a child and kept her for years, she managed to escape and now she dedicates her life to finding those missing children abducted from the families

josie vance is the newest victim to be abducted that is also the same place that emily ray was taken brings on some disturbing symptoms for emily and as the clues they start to receive hint that maybe its the person that abducted emily sends her reeling because they have proof he died....right....

with time running out can emily and her crew find josie before its to late....

what a beginning to a new series and i for one cant wait to read the next book in this series.... bring it on

Well written with a superb storyline. I liked the characters and the way the story unfolds. A kidnapping kicks off a series of events, with twists that you don't see coming. An excellent read and highly recommended.

If you know me, you know I am not a fan of the FBI/Detective stories and series in general, but, I like to challenge myself because sometimes I can find something amazing! And this is that one - amazing one!
The storyline is original, so it attracts attention straight away. There is a good twist halfway through.
Mostly told in present with some past flashbacks to give us a full picture, this book concentrates on the main character Emily. And I loved the way she is presented, her work and family life, everything goes together so nicely!

Special Agent Emily Ray is leading an FBI team that specialises in child abduction. Her superpower is lived experience. When she was 7 years old, she was kidnapped and held captive for 8 years...
When Josie Vance vanishes in the same circumstances as she did 28 years ago, Emily takes this case seriously and is ready to reopen dark events that have been buried for decades...

Special Agent Emily Ray is part of the CARD division of the FBI which involves finding missing children. She goes back to her hometown and neighborhood for a case that involves a kidnapping of a young girl from a park while with her Nanny. This case becomes eerily familiar when it starts to have clues that point her to her own abduction 20 yrs ago. She had been missing for 8 years when her abductor let her go and committed suicide. Now she must figure out if this little girls case is a copycat or is her secrets coming back to haunt her?

I loved this book, it gave me Criminal Minds vibes without the focus on a full team. I like book series like these as palate cleansers in between larger books they are fun to read, satisfying, and make you want to know more about the characters and what is next for them. Emily’s character development was great I liked her from the beginning and the bombshell I never guessed. I am excited to see where her character heads next. I would have liked to know more of what happened to Josie and the abduction side maybe from the villain perspective just to get more of his POV and background of why he did it. I also loved that it had a small amount of spice in it, just one small scene. Overall I really liked this book and cannot wait for book 2.

If you love criminal procedural thrillers or series then this is the book for you.

3.5- this was a good psych thriller! It was suspenseful and kept me engaged- I would’ve liked more depth to the story. It felt very surface level and could’ve been something really gripping if it had dove deeper into the complex trauma of the FMC and the choices that led to her story. What a deeply moving and suspenseful story, and every parent's nightmare. It's a police procedural about an FBI agent who is in charge of a child abduction response team.

As a child she was also kidnapped. Just seven years old and was held captive for 8 long years. Despite her traumatic childhood, she is now married with daughters of her own, and devotes her time trying to save other abducted kids.

In this twisty thriller, a new case with glaring similarities to her own kidnapping may have her past meeting her present and a race against time to find the missing little girl.

This story was so compelling and I was invested from the start. Emily is a strong and resilient character and I loved how she handled herself when things got too close to home and flashbacks plagued her.

I loved the small snippets of Emily's past and her time with her abductor. It really showed her strength and gave an insight to her backstory.
There are themes of PTSD and OCD which are handled with the utmost sensitivity,

This was a fantastic start to a new series and I am really excited to see where it goes from here.

This was a very fast paced read especially since there was a lot of dialogue. I liked how the twist was unexpected and we did not have to wait until the end of the book.

FBI agent Emily Ray is called upon to solve the case of a missing child. Emily can't help noticing the eerie similarities to an abduction decades ago, where she herself was the victim.

I requested this book on a whim because the premise sounded so intriguing. I loved the idea of our protagonist being a former victim herself. I zipped through this book in about a day. It was non-stop action, well-written, and the perfect mix of current timeline and backstory. Emily Ray was an absolute delight of a character and I will definitely read more books that come out in this series. The plot itself was so interesting and shocked me a number of times. I experienced so many emotions throughout and I was on the edge of my seat wondering how it would all wrap up, and when it did it was absolute perfection.

Wow! This book! Did not expect that ending and plot twist! This book was so good! I loved the parallels between the past and present kidnappings. I will definitely check out more from this author.

This book was so good with so many twists and turns. I never knew what was coming next and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Absolutely loved this book and will definitely be reading more from Michelle Dominguez Greene! 100% recommend to anyone interested in crime, kidnapping, and plot twists!

I was not a fan of this book. Hard to get into and stay invested. Little to no character development. Will not be reading any more of this authors books.

This is a very good read, the start of a new series, with such well developed characters. I really liked Emily's character and the insight into her personal life also. She is a complex and very interesting person, as well as being an excellent FBI agent. This is more a psychological thriller, in my opinion, rather than a mystery. The plotting deals with child abduction, mental health and PTSD but is handled with great sensitivity and respect for the reader. A clever twist just added to the appeal and I am sure readers will love the read. I highly recommend to lovers of psychological thrillers and mysteries. I really look forward to reading more of Emily and I hope we don't have too long to wait for a follow up. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
