This is a really intriguing extract from Boudicca’s daughter. I particularly like that the publisher has given access to chapter 13 which is full of action and provides a real taste of what the book will be like when it is released. I will be looking out for the full story in August.

Hard to say too much about this as only an extract but it definitely whetted my appetite. Great , immersive scene setting and I'm even more eager for the full length book now

I want to thank Elodie Harper and Head of Zeus, for the excerpt.
Told from the pov of one of the daughters of Boudiccia. We follow a war camp, rebelling against Roman occupation and fresh from battling the ninth legion. Boudiccia's daughter is worried about sustaining food and the cleanliness of the army and camp. We are told of the rage, greed and hatred that fuels this army and of the daughters worry of her mothers control slipping.
This excerpt was incredibly immersive and I was instantly hooked. I am looking forward to reading the whole book.

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for a sneak peek/extract of Boudicca's Daughter in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own,
Extremely hyped after reading just one chapter! From the author of the Wolves' Den Trilogy I can't wait to read more of her works. After just one chapter we feel the pressure of war, the grief and the power names have. after all: Solina is Boudicca's daughter.
4⭐️

This being an extract of the highly anticipated new book from Elodie Harper, did not disappoint.
I’m hooked from the first paragraph, however I so wish I had the rest of it to hand now, as I simply cannot wait!!!
Thank you for the extract ❤️
I’m in even more anticipation than before

The writing in just this short extract is beautiful and while being dropped in the middle of the action was a little confusing it also intrigued me enough to make me want to read the whole thing.

Obsessed!!! I cannot wait for the full book to come out. I loved Elodie Harper's Wolf Den trilogy, and she's done it again.

Thank you to Head of Zeus, Apollo, the author and NetGalley for DRC extract in return for an honest review
This was a great extract. Makes me want to read the wh]ole book, which I guess is the whole point! ;)

I’m very excited for the publication of Boudicca’s Daughter - anyone who has read the Wolf Den Trilogy will know of Elodie Harper’s amazing historical attention to detail and her perfect characterisation of complex protagonists.
I was lucky enough to hear Elodie discussing her writing and research of Boudicca’s daughter in conversation with Lucy Holland (author of Sistersong and Song of the Huntress) at a book festival and was so impressed with her love of history and research.
I’ve only read an extract, but I’m excited to see how Harper has dealt with very different source material - the Wolf Den series was based in ancient Pompeii, with so many stunning and detailed written and material sources - whereas the ancient Iceni tribe have so few in comparison.
I’ve just preordered the special @waterstones edition because of the special Britannica short story included at the back - my favourite character from the Wolf Den!
Thanks to @headofzeus and @elodieharper for a sneak peak of Boudicca’s Daughter - out 28th August but available to preorder in 3 stunning special editions now.
I will post on my instagram @charlottereadshistory Friday 13 June

It is strange leaving a review on only a few pages, it is even odder that I gave 5*, having only read a few pages, but this is what this abstract has done to me.
We catch Boudicca's daughters and (partly) their view of their mother and what she has turned into - a symbol of freedom or one of senseless violence. I will not only get the book when it comes out, but I will look into the other books from Elodie Harper, as for me, she is an unknown author, but if her books are half as good as the abstract, I can see why she has a trilogy and so many fans.
Thank sto NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC abstract

This extract promises a gritty and compelling depiction of Boudicca and her activities. I am particularly intrigued by the way Boudicca as a figure is presented, as well as by the small insight this provided into the relationship between her two daughters. I have a feeling that this will be a contender for top read of the year for me when the full book is released.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading these few pages of this book. It is fascinating to read the tale from Boudicca's daughter's point of view rather than the woman herself, as it puts a different spin on the story. Even with this short extract, I was immediately brought into this action and wanted to know more about these very interesting and complex characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the book.

Solina is Boudicca's Daughter.
Elodie Harper is a majestic story-teller, and she continues with this astounding ability in her newest book, Boudicca's Daughter. This isn't a simple story that removes nuance and complexity from Boudicca's story - this is morally obscure, fraught, and tense, and the reader is along for the ride the entire time. I was utterly gripped by this story and cannot wait for more.

Having read this extract from Boudicca’s Daughter I can only say that Elodie Harper is once again at her glorious best. This brings to life the horror and desperation of a people fighting to free their country from the Roman occupiers. The smells , sounds and descriptions take you right to the centre of the action you can believe you are right there. I can wait until publication day when I will be front of the queue to get my copy. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this extract of what promises to be a real page turner.

I appreciate the main character being a strong and confident girl, though not too bold and swept up in the war against the Romans. I like the struggle she faces between wanting to follow her mother and free Britain from its oppressive rulers but also seeing the other side of Boudicca, which does seem to be focused on results and not what it does to her people or her followers. That she sees the division in her as her mother and her leader. It's also great that she has a moral compass in her sister (and would like to see her not immediately killed off). It would be interesting to find out more about her family dynamics behind the scenes. Even more to find her on her own adventure, maybe a chase for Decanius in France, leading her to become her own woman and warrior.

This short extract says so much more than I was expecting. The writing style is clear and immersive, the characters even in very few pages are distinct and interesting, and I absolutely love the premise. Boudicca is such a fascinating character, and to read a portrayal from the perspective of her daughters? And the book doesn't shy away from or romanticise the realities of war? Sign me up.
I can't wait to read this when it comes out & Elodie Harper is now on my list of authors to watch!

Have I already preordered this? Yes.
Could I resist reading an extract? No!
I've read everything that Elodie Harper has ever published, and I think this is going to be my favourite of hers. Boudicca and her daughters are such interesting and important figures that have almost been lost to history, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Harper's take on them.

This short sample is well written and has give a good feeling about the book.
I enjoyed retellings and will be picking this one up in the future.

I'm hoping that the book is better than this extract, it unfortunately didn't hook me on the story at all. It seems to be well written, and the characters are fleshed out. I'm just not a fan of being thrown in to a cult-esque scene with little to no context beyond the battlefield.

I absolutely love Harper's writing, and this excerpt did not disappoint. It was difficult to get to know the characters from the one chapter alone so character relationships and development is impossible to judge. However, the historical details and tone really pulled me into the action and it was easy to follow. I will definitely be reading this novel when released.
