DNF - What is even going on!!! At 3hrs in I've hacked enough. Unbelievable and just ridiculous not to talk of unlikeable characters. No real backstory and not much happening. Not for me...

Such a well paced and suspenseful book! The twists were believable and not predictable.
It had excellent writing and a fascinating plot.
My Daughter Is Missing by JD Kirk is a book which kept me thoroughly engaged from beginning to end.

It starts off with a panic, very gripping and tense with so many emotions. Great twists throughout the book. Ultimately, it ends with revenge and success. Good, quick read!
My only complaints are how did she end up with Hollie as a child? Maybe I spaced off with those details. Also, Hollie is 9, so not sure why the cover shows small, young child in a baby swing.

Elizabeth goes to the school disco with daughter Hollie. When it is home time Elizabeth realises that Hollie has gone missing. With secrets from the past, she is unable to contact the police and realises she is on her own. Will she find her daughter or does someone know the truth?
Having read one book by J.D. Kirk previously and hearing a lot of great things about his police procedurals, I was looking forward to reading this psychological thriller standalone. I was interested in the storyline almost straight away and keen to see where it would go. I enjoyed the easy writing style and the flow of the story.
I wasn’t too keen on the characters and found Elizabeth frustrating at times. There were some interesting twists, however I became slightly confused with the ending, it didn’t seem to fully fit and I found I wasn’t as interested as I was at the start. Even though I had a few niggles, for the most part this was an enjoyable read and great for those looking for a dark, clever thriller. I’d read more psychological thrillers (and police procedurals) by this author. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

This is a great psychological thriller.
Elizabeth is helping at a school party and can see her daughter in the hall having a good time. However, when it comes to home time, Hollie is nowhere to be found.
Elizabeth frantically searches for her but soon has to accept that someone has taken her.
When she arrives home her partner questions where Hollie is but as Elizabeth is hiding quite a lot from him, she adds another lie to the list and says she’s staying with a friend.
It’s not clear at first why Elizabeth can’t go to the Police but there’s a hint that something major happened in her past.
Her twin sister Sasha is trying to work out where Hollis is too but it’s soon clear she’s not afraid to kill people, to get the answers she wants.
I really enjoyed this book but would’ve liked more clarification around some aspects towards the end of the book.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

This was a very addictive read that had me gripped right away, as the secrets are discovered I found myself needing to know the truth before I could put it down!

Amazing book! Started a little slow, didn't give a lot of back story. Was easy to follow along with though. Brilliant plot twist, which I did guess what was going to happen, but that didn't make me enjoy the story any less. Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture for letting me read this book for an honest review.

I requested this book as JD Kirk is one of my favourite authors. Whilst this isn’t a Jack Logan book it’s still written with the same strength and well written chapters. There is a very sweet nod to one of his other character in this book that made me smile.
I guessed one of the twists , but not another which was very well written into the storyline.
Whilst I don’t think this is as strong as his other books I read it in 3 days, and will definitely read any other standalone books that he writes.

As a fan of JD Kirk books Logan Hoon & Filson I found My daughter is missing very hard to get into, the book had its strengths and weaknesses and it helped that I had a picture in my mind of Elizabeth. The premise was interesting, and there were definitely moments that pulled me in. Some of the characters were well-developed, and there were parts of the plot that felt fresh and engaging. A third way through I told my wife what I thought the end twist would be and I was correct!
I won't be rushing to read this type of genre in the future as I lost focus a few times. Overall, it was a decent read which I would expect nothing less from Barry—not amazing, but not terrible either . If you're looking for something in this genre, it might be worth picking up, but it is not a book that will stick with me now I have finished the final page

I have read most of this author’s previous crime books & loved them, but this is his first foray into that challenging world of the psychological thriller. So, are you ready?
Elizabeth, a single mother, is at her daughter’s school Halloween disco. Hollie, her daughter, has of course gone dressed as a butterfly! Elizabeth is on the PTA committee; she is running a snack stand just outside the main school hall & can only sneak quick views of her daughter & friends. They are due to meet up at the end of the evening to go home, but when the time comes, Hollie is nowhere to be seen. Understandably, Elizabeth is frantic with concern & fears the worst. It is at this point we first learn that she has secrets that no one must discover.
This fast paced story unfolds over four days. Elizabeth anxiously searches for Hollie & the secrets from her past are revealed. A taut & gripping read which will keep you hooked until the very end.

My Daughter Is Missing is a book that grabbed me from the first chapter.
Elizabeth is at her nine year old daughter’s school Halloween party, she’s been lumbered with running the snack stall. Hollie her daughter is dressed in a huge butterfly costume that she has made for her at home. Come the end of the party and Elizabeth can’t find Hollie anywhere. Elizabeth is in full panic mode but when teachers offer to phone the police she refuses and says there’s been a mix up and her partner has already collected her. Why no police? Where does Elizabeth think her daughter is?
This was a great read, yes unbelievable but highly readable. The plot was good and the characters and twists and turns were decent too. I couldn’t put this down as I had no thought as to where this was going. The ending to be fair could have been better but it did leave no unanswered questions so did its job just could have been better for me. But a good read that I read in a day.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

My Daughter is Missing by J.D. Kirk is a psychological thriller that will leave you questioning what could possibly drive a parent to react the way Elizabeth does when her daughter, Hollie, goes missing. Following Elizabeth’s journey—with only her sister’s help—was both gripping and frustrating. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that something traumatic must have happened in her past, making her feel she can’t turn to anyone else for help.
The storyline pulled me in right away, hinting at a deeper, more complex backstory. I do wish that element had been developed further, but the twists and turns definitely kept me guessing. I give this book 3.75 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a suspenseful read that keeps you wondering what led to such desperate choices.
This was my first book by J.D. Kirk, and I’m looking forward to reading more. A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

I loved the Logan series from this author so I was looking forward to this one as the premise sounded good.. I am afraid it just did not hit the mark for me. Unrealistic in parts and the ending was a letdown.. I would definitely read the next one as I usually enjoy the novels. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

The enviably prolific JD Kirk goes off piste with this, a standalone thriller, in which Elizabeth's 9-year-old daughter Hollie disappears as if in to thin air at the end of a school Hallowe'en party. Distracted by the super-efficient Mable from the PTA, Elizabeth still doesn't think Hollie would have just run off on her own volition; but just as panic sets in and searches start, realisation also sets in that this could be something very much more than a missing child.
From the get-go, we're invited to ask what Elizabeth's past might be hiding, with nuggets dangled to tempt us further. In missing children scenario we're expected to rout for the desperate parent but while yes, she desperately wants to find Hollie, we soon sense there's so much more to this than meets the eye. A tight set of characters revolve around the key players, and it's good that this makes for a taut and fast-moving plot.
As with all JDKs books, there is no superfluous prose, the action is fast and the time-frame in which the story takes place makes for a very realistic pace. Of course, there are a couple of moments where the reader maybe has to suspend a little disbelief at some behaviours (after all, do any of us really know how we'd behave?) displayed by a couple of the players but honestly? This is just the sort of pacey thriller is recommended for anyone whose reading mojo needs a boost.

🎧Audio Book Review🎧
My Daughter Is Missing
JD Kirk
🌟🌟🌟🌟
Despite owning almost every single DCI Jack Logan book by this author, I have to (ashamedly) admit to this being only my second read!!
As soon as I spotted this on audio and the fact that it forms part of Kirk's standalone library - I jumped at the chance to read it!
It was obviously no surprise that I absolutely loved this and flew through it in just one day! - Spring cleaning day made so much more enjoyable!
When I spotted the title, I wondered what on earth could make this story unique - I've read so many missing children thrillers now, that I was sure that there'd be nothing I haven't seen yet!
Well, how wrong I was!
This was packed with so many twists that I really wasn't expecting.
I can't reveal anything plotwise - but I loved that I never really knew who to trust and where to look next.
I loved all the characters...but obviously, I initially felt so sorry for Elizabeth - with her daughter missing I couldn't imagine the strain she felt.... But why didn't she want to involve the police !?
This made me a little apprehensive - but there were so many other things to be looking at and the details unfolded gradually before everything finally pieces together coming to a thrilling conclusion.
This was a super tense read that had me glued to the pages.
I was immersed from start to finish and couldn't wait to find out what had really happened to poor Hollie.
Every time I made up my own theory, something else would come along to throw things wide open again.
So many potential suspects and so many revelations, each one with its own shock factor and an ending that left me reeling!
A brilliant read and I can't wait to get stuck into the rest of my JD stack soon!
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

Sadly this book was not for me, despite enjoying all the authors other fantastic books.
It was boring, and I set it down many times, but I thought I would read it to the end. You can figure it out long before the end.
Although not my cup of tea, others may enjoy it.

Big fan of this series of books from JD KIrk which in the main I've found to be thoroughly entertaining and an easy read in a genre that is my favourite but in being completely honest this one missed the mark for me and wasn't up to the standard I've come to love.
I'm sure this will prove to be a temporary blip in terms of the quality of his books and I look forward to reading the next one very soon.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased review.

3.5/5
This was not your typical missing child thriller, Elizabeth does not behave how a normal parent would when she realizes her daughter has vanished so it’s strange right from the start. She’s worried for sure, she just doesn’t tell anyone, including the police and it’s clear that she has secrets she’s willing to go to great lengths to hide. So I definitely judged her the whole time, she’s not a likable character but she was interesting for sure. The pacing here was on the fast side with short chapters and plenty of action. It did veer into some outlandish turns but some of the twists were solid so it all kind of balanced out for me in the end. If you want a thriller with a pretty fresh angle try this, I really haven’t read anything else exactly like it and I always appreciate that, I just wish it would’ve been a bit more grounded and not so silly.

Elizabeth has a secret, her daughter Hollie has disappeared, and you think you know what's going to happen. Not. This has an interesting twist that set sin when Elizabeth calls on her sister Sasha, a woman who won't stop at anything, to help her find Hollie. To be honest, Kirk does telegraphs some of what will happen but there's still a surprise. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A page turner that would make a good travel book.

This book grips you right from the beginning. The plotting is centred around a missing child and her mother's search to find her, whatever it takes. It is a fast paced and exhilerating read, filled with tension, suspense and a bucketful of drama! My only complaint is the ending which left me feeling I was missing something. Overall, a very enjoyable read which fans will love. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
