I really enjoyed this book. The writing style was great! The characters were relatable and I felt a connection with them. I really felt what they were going through. It was fast paced and kept my attention. When things start to come together you will think you’ve just figured it out! Well you’re wrong!! The twists and reveals at the end were mind blowing and great! It’s definitely unexpected and that made this a great read! I would definitely recommend.

This was a great mystery, and I enjoyed it a lot! It was my first by this author, and I thought it was very well written. There were multiple layers, and the twists were great. I really cared about the characters and what happened to them. Definitely recommend.

Since the sudden and tragic death of her partner, bestselling crime author Serena Winters hasn’t written a word. With deadlines looming, she packs up her grief and escapes from New York City to a secluded clifftop house in small-town California, hoping the change of scenery will cure her writer’s block.
But as news of her arrival spreads, Serena finds herself facing strange accusations that she’s here to cash in on the house’s history. When she uncovers the chilling story of a young family who mysteriously vanished from the very same house thirty years earlier, she can’t help asking more questions…
Someone in the local community doesn’t want the past dug up, though. Someone willing to push Serena to the limits of her sanity to keep the truth buried. Caught in a spiraling campaign of intimidation, and harboring a dark secret of her own, Serena soon finds herself in the kind of danger she usually only writes about…
Loved it. Will recommend to others

Engaging, Compelling ..
A crime writer and a cold case. Pacy, moving and atmospheric - a well plotted suspenseful tale with a protagonist that readers will warm to and relayed effectively across multiple points of view and timelines. Much like previous novels, the storytelling aspect is done so very well. Engaging and compelling.

Serena has writer's block after the sudden death of her partner, and she decides to move across the country to a secluded house. When she arrives, she learns that a family had disappeared from the same house without a trace years earlier, and she decides to look into the disappearance as inspiration for the book she needs to write. Of course someone doesn't want that to happen. This was fine, not particularly shocking or exciting but nothing really wrong with it either. 3 stars.

I really liked this! The characters are well-rounded and I was invested in them. The pacing is good and the writing style drew me in. I would recommend this! Special Thank You to Lisa Gray, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

A fast paced, multi timeline thriller with psychological element that keeps you guessing to the very end.
The main character is an author with writers block since her partner died, so she decides to go away on a working holiday, and ends up staying in a cottage where the previous owners disappeared. The house was a fascinating character all on its own, and the mystery of the missing owners adds so much! Once Serena finds out about the past she dives deep into it. Creepy things keep happening, it’s clear someone is determined to stop her.
This book kept me on edge til the very end.

I really enjoyed #DeadofNight, provided by #NetGalley. This book hit all the right marks and was hard to put down. The story line lags a bit in the beginning, but then picks up quickly and continues until the end. I feel like the main character was easy to like and cheer for. The plot was just enough to keep me invested, but not too much to become unbelievable or boring. I would absolutely read more books by this author.

From the very first page, Dead of Night pulls you into its dark, moody world and doesn’t let go. Lisa Gray has crafted a haunting mystery that’s as emotionally stirring as it is suspenseful. The story, centered around the chilling disappearance of teenagers thirty years ago, is more than just a whodunit—it’s a deep dive into how secrets, guilt, and loss can linger in a community for decades.
What stood out to me most was the atmosphere. The remote house on the cliff, the foggy nights, the eerie sense that something—or someone—is always watching. It gave me chills, and I loved it. The characters feel authentic, especially the protagonist, who carries their own burden of emotional scars while trying to uncover the truth.
Gray’s writing is sharp but also poetic in moments, creating vivid scenes that you can almost hear and smell. The dual timeline adds richness to the story, allowing readers to slowly piece together what happened that night so long ago. And just when you think you’ve figured it out, another twist hits you out of nowhere.
Dead of Night isn’t just a mystery—it’s a story about the cost of silence, the weight of memory, and the courage it takes to confront the past. If you love thrillers with real heart and atmosphere so thick you could slice it, this one’s a must-read.

Serena has had writer's block since the unexpected and bizarre death of her partner. With her publisher breathing down her neck, she decides a change of scenery is what she needs so she leaves New York City and rents a beautiful clifftop house by the water on the west coast. Not long after she arrives, she discovers the previous family who lived there years ago simply vanished one night, leaving everything behind. Some locals aren't happy with her arrival, wondering if she's there to write a story about the local family who disappeared and while that wasn't her initial plan, Serena is drawn into the mystery and starts to ask questions. Her probing leads to intimidating threats to her own safety by someone unknown but she's determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, despite harboring a secret of her own about her partner's death.
This story, told over 2 timelines is a chilliing mystery with a touch of romance nicely woven into the story. The characters are real and well-developed and the book cleverly moves you from one timeline to another, keeping you engaged and interested . A well-written story with unexpected twists along the way. While I had some theories of my own about what was happening, I didn't bring it all together so the ending was a surprise. I find some thrillers too over the top but this one was sharply brought together, and didn't disappoint. A definite recommendation from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I’m a big fan of Lisa Gray, and while I have especially enjoyed her Jessica Shaw series, Dead of Night is one of her best standalone novels. A secluded winding road leads to a mysterious California mansion on a cliff. The seclusion prompts blocked writer Serena to rent the house for the summer in her attempt to start writing again.. As she soon learns about the past disappearances involving the house, her mystery-writer talents start to return— but someone doesn’t want Serena to explore the mysteries of the past. Lots of pieces keep this whodunit lively and exciting. 4.5 stars rounded up.

As a huge fan of Lisa Gray, I was eagerly anticipating Dead of Night—and once again, she did not disappoint! I flew through the pages, completely absorbed in the gripping story and well-drawn characters. I didn’t want it to end!
The twists hit hard, just as I’ve come to expect from Gray’s writing. While I was secretly hoping for a happier outcome for one particular character, the ending still packed a powerful emotional punch and felt true to the story.
A fantastic, fast-paced read that proves once again why Lisa Gray is a must-read author for me.

Excellent twisty storyline.
Keeps you guessing right to the end.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks for the opportunity to read and review

Serena is the bestselling author of a mystery/crime series. Since the death of her partner, she has been struggling to get back into writing. Serena decides that a change of scenery might help with her writer's block, so she swaps her New York life for a clifftop house in a small California town. Unbeknownst to Serena, the house has its own story - a young family suddenly disappeared in the middle of the night three decades ago. The storyteller in Serena immediately needs to know more. As she begins to dig into the house's past, Serena finds herself in danger.
I absolutely loved this book! It was super well written, thrilling, and addictive. I was immediately pulled in from the beginning and had a tough time putting this one down. It is so addicting that I finished it in one day.
Lisa Gray nailed the unexpected twist and turns, cliffhangers, and emotionally charged chapters. I was a fan of To Die For and The Final Act, but enjoyed this one even more! I do not want to give too much away but I will say that you will be in for a wild and crazy ride!.

The prologue had me in a choke hold of suspense.
This one is amazing, in true lisa gray fashion. This unputdownable thriller will have you cringing in terror as you try to piece together the puzzle around the Duprie's and Cliff House. Serena needs answers, but does she deserve them?
I loved Lisa's last book SO much last year, and this one is an amazing follow up.

Dead of Night by Lisa Gray is a compelling blend of suspense, well-drawn characters, and atmospheric tension that kept me turning pages well into the evening. The plot unfolds with precision, drawing readers into a small-town mystery full of dark secrets and slow-burning intrigue.
The protagonist is both relatable and flawed, and Gray does an excellent job of balancing personal struggles with the unraveling investigation. The writing is sharp and evocative, painting a chilling setting that perfectly complements the story's tone.
While some of the twists were a bit predictable for seasoned thriller fans, the journey was nonetheless satisfying, with enough surprises to keep the momentum strong. The pacing occasionally dipped in the middle, but the payoff in the final chapters was worth the wait.
Overall, Dead of Night is a solid, well-written thriller that fans of crime fiction will definitely enjoy. Looking forward to more from Lisa Gray!

Vanished,,. Disappeared… No trace left… What really happened to the Duprie family that September night back in 1994? Flash forward to now.. Serena is needing a change of scenery and pace after a tragic event. She books a vacation rental and plans to catch up on her writing and enjoy some r&r. However, fate has different plans. When she arrives at the old Duprie house set on a picturesque cliff, she quickly realizes that this write-cation might not be as slow- pace and relaxing as she first planned. From her first few hours in the town, she finds out that some people are not so welcoming– notes left on her car, snooty townspeople, and a maid who definitely doesn’t pass the sus test. Serena uncovers piece by piece of mystery surrounding the Dupries and learns that the daughter they claimed may have been a missing baby taken from a bus depot. Throughout the book, Lisa Gray sprinkles red herrings, twists, turns, and OMG moments that will have readers staying up way too late to finish the book and solve the mystery. Dead of Night is now available wherever you get your books.

I absolutely love a good book with a crime writer but firstly a huge thanks to the publisher and all opinions expressed are mine.
This book follows a successful writer Serena who goes to a secluded house to focus on writing a book because she has a deadline. How timely that a crime writer moves into a house with history. The family that owned her airbnb disappeared one night and never to be seen and that inspires her new read, Thrilling ‘shady characters’, family history and definetely a page turner. It is written so well and I enjoyed it.

This was a great thriller with multiple POV's. I really liked the short chapters, and it somehow made it easier to follow the book and stay connected. This story had some great twists (and even a few that I didn't see coming.) All in all, a great read. I'll be sure to check out this author's future works.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ARC. This book is out now! Make sure to add it to your TBR.

Thank you Thomas & Mercer for a digital copy of this book. The opinions are my own and freely given.
This book is told in 3 different timelines - NOW, 1983 & 1993.
Now Serena Winters is a writer who is overcoming some personal issues and she is urged to "go away" to write her next novel. She does this in a secluded home that has a strange history. She starts to investigate this and uses the past events to inspire her next novel.
The story starts in 1993 and that is the basis of Serena's reseach. A family disappearing in the "dead of night" never to be seen again. The story in 1983, I couldn't at first figure out how it intersected with 1993 but then it hit me.
I loved this story. The house was creepy, I wasn't sure which of the towns residents could be trusted.
