DNF - What is even going on!!! At 3hrs in I've hacked enough. Unbelievable and just ridiculous not to talk of unlikeable characters. No real backstory and not much happening. Not for me...

A gripping story which left me with a chilling feeling and some unanswered questions at the end!
Really enjoyed it though and the narrator did a great job and was pleasant to listen to.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook copy of My Daughter Is Missing by JD Kirk in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun murder mystery for the weekend. It was a quick read with some twists.

This book had me guessing at every turn. Elizabeth’s nine year old daughter goes missing from a school function. Elizabeth frantically searched the school with no avail but she doesn’t contact the police. You are left wondering why she wouldn’t get the police involved and what on earth was going on.

I was gripped and wanting to find out what had happened I couldn’t stop listening. When I thought I’d finally figured out who took Elizabeth’s daughter, I was wrong!

Elizabeth embarks on a crazy journey to save her little girl. There are twists and turns throughout that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this audiobook if you love a gritty and twisty thriller.

I want to thank Netgalley for this opportunity to read this ARC.

The twist and turns of this Thriller reminding me of the Frieda books that I recently became obsessed with and I finished this audio in one day. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out who took Holley.

Having multiple twist at the end was perfect. I didn’t see any of that coming.

I do wish we got a little more back story into Lizzy/Sasha and what was going on there though.

As a fan of JD Kirk Logan Hoon & Filson books I found My daughter is missing very hard to get into, the book had its strengths and weaknesses and it helped that I had a picture in my mind of Elizabeth. The premise was interesting, and there were definitely moments that pulled me in. Some of the characters were well-developed, and there were parts of the plot that felt fresh and engaging. A third way through I told my wife what I thought the end twist would be and I was correct!
I won't be rushing to read this type of genre in the future as I lost focus a few times. Overall, it was a decent read which I would expect nothing less from Barry—not amazing, but not terrible either . If you're looking for something in this genre, it might be worth picking up, but it is not a book that will stick with me now I have finished the final page

My Daughter Is Missing by J.D. Kirk is an emotional but dark thriller that will take you on a wild goose chase. I can imagine this as a film and I believe it would be a good one.
Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. The writing style is so descriptive, I don't know, something wasn't working for me. The only scene that I loved it was the police asking her to open the boot, that made me giggle.

The audiobook narrated by Cathleen McCarronat made me finish this book. In my opinion, Cathleen's voice was really suitable for the main character. I could feel how connected with the story she was, but still, I was 65% in and I was bored to death. If this would not be an ARC I would put it down after Part 1.
All in general I was left with the feeling that something was missing, something didn't sit right with me. But I am happy with the end twist as this pushed this up to 3 stars. I guessed one twist quite early but the missing piece of the puzzle was an absolute surprise.

Elizabeth's daughter Hollie disappears at the school Halloween party. Just like that, she just vanished. Elizabeth has 2 days to find her otherwise she will be in big trouble. She will grab every possible straw to find Hollie, even accept help from her estranged sister Sasha, but she will not report this to the police. She can't, there will be too many questions.

To be honest I really enjoyed Sasha's character, she felt original and didn't take No for an answer.

Thank you, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this copy.

🎧Audio Book Review🎧

My Daughter Is Missing
JD Kirk

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Despite owning almost every single DCI Jack Logan book by this author, I have to (ashamedly) admit to this being only my second read!!
As soon as I spotted this on audio and the fact that it forms part of Kirk's standalone library - I jumped at the chance to read it!

It was obviously no surprise that I absolutely loved this and flew through it in just one day! - Spring cleaning day made so much more enjoyable!

When I spotted the title, I wondered what on earth could make this story unique - I've read so many missing children thrillers now, that I was sure that there'd be nothing I haven't seen yet!
Well, how wrong I was!

This was packed with so many twists that I really wasn't expecting.
I can't reveal anything plotwise - but I loved that I never really knew who to trust and where to look next.

I loved all the characters...but obviously, I initially felt so sorry for Elizabeth - with her daughter missing I couldn't imagine the strain she felt.... But why didn't she want to involve the police !?
This made me a little apprehensive - but there were so many other things to be looking at and the details unfolded gradually before everything finally pieces together coming to a thrilling conclusion.

This was a super tense read that had me glued to the pages.
I was immersed from start to finish and couldn't wait to find out what had really happened to poor Hollie.
Every time I made up my own theory, something else would come along to throw things wide open again.
So many potential suspects and so many revelations, each one with its own shock factor and an ending that left me reeling!

A brilliant read and I can't wait to get stuck into the rest of my JD stack soon!

💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

NOT YET RELEASED! Coming out on 4/16/25.

This story revolves around Elizabeth and Hollie…a mother daughter duo.

When Hollie goes missing after her schools Halloween celebration, her Mom, understandably, blows a gasket. She’s looking for her everywhere, and has the whole school staff looking too.
But then, she stops looking, and tells everyone her partner picked up her daughter. She FORGOT.
WAIT….WHAT?????????

This is literally the first FIVE MINUTES of the book…so not a spoiler. The whole book revolves around ‘my daughter is missing!’

BUT, just the same…. This was my first red flag! Why??
I’d have the school. The police. The FBI. The WORLD looking for my child!!!!
What the heck is going on here?? And we spend the entire rest of the book trying to figure that out! 😮

Sorry to say that this was not for me…

Although I loved the premise of the story, and the first half to two thirds of it, after that I feel like it just went off the rails.
I totally understand that this IS fiction, but when you go from totally relatable to completely off the wall… well, that’s just not for me…

Plus, I kind of suspected what was going on, but still, even after reading the book AND sleeping on it overnight before posting my review, I STILL don’t understand or relate to how that could even be possible???

So, because of that, I’m being pretty stingy with my stars this time…
2 1/2 ⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 3!
Because I’m not giving a great review, I’ll limit my posting to Goodreads, NetGalley and my own IG account.

#MyDaughterIsMissing by #JDKirk and narrated nicely by #CathleenMcCarron.

Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #BookoutureAudio for an ARC of the audiobook, in exchange for an HONEST review.
*** Release date is next week on... 4/16/25, so look 👀 for it on then !! ***

I was pleased to receive an advance copy of this audiobook as I am a fan of JD Kirk. I wasn’t disappointed, the story had me gripped from the start and I read it in 24 hours. The narrator moved seamlessly between characters and the plot and me guessing to the end. I really enjoyed the strong character development and can see a return in future books in the series. I really enjoyed the dark sense of humour, setting this book apart from other books in the same genre. The plot had me guessing until the last pages of the book, I’ll be back for more.

Elizabeth Is freaking out! Her nine-year-old daughter has gone missing, and she can’t let anyone know… why? Because Elizabeth Is hiding so many secrets that if the police get involved, she will definitely have no chance getting her daughter back. So, she needs to work carefully and use her smarts to try and find who took her daughter.

OH MY, This is one of those books, whereby chapter 3 I knew I was going to struggle to put it down. The plot starts instantly, and we are thrust into a panicky ‘wouldn’t wish this on my enemy’ type of scenario and I was locked in. I didn’t know how to feel about Elizabeth as a parent. I had empathy for her because she has lost her child, but the other part of me was side eyeing as to what she possibly could have done in her past to the point she can’t contact the local authority. Overall, she was an unlikeable character for me.
As we get further into the book there was some twists and turns, I didn’t see coming that I really enjoyed but the conclusion to the story… UMMM NO! I felt I was worked up to an absolute frenzy to be delivered an un-thrilling mundane ending.
Not much was explained with the ending and throughout, the backstory of Elizabeth was only surface level. You don’t actually get a reasoning behind anyone’s actions.

WHAT I LIKED
Jumping straight into the action
Fast paced
Short chapters
Cliffhanger chapters

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
Too many unresolved answers
Side characters left unresolved
A certain trope used without any explanation as to why
The ending

I needed more from the ending and for some loose ends to tied up more better. But if you are need for a quick palate cleanser read, this would be a good one to pick up.

Big thank you to Bookouture and JD Kirk for the arc of this book. All opinions are honest and my own

Thank you @NetGalley and @BookoutureAudio for the ARC. JD Kirk knows how to do Psychological thrillers. I could not stop listening. Imagine your daughter goes missing and you can't tell anyone as your past has skeletons that can not get out. You retrace your steps and than ask your estranged sister to come help. I do not want to give to much away but recommend you read this book.

My Daughter is Missing, written by JD Kirk is a new twist to the missing child stories. A mother whose daughter is missing and she can't go to the police or anyone else to help her. She must find her daughter Hollie herself. Not even her partner must even know that Hollie is missing. A gripping tale as a mother searches alone to find her missing possibly kidnapped daughter. She will stop at nothing to find her as we follow along in this search. We the reader don't know why she can't go to the police and why she must keep the fact Hollie is missing from everyone but the wild ride of the search keeps you spellbound following along. Things are slowly revealed. I listened to the audio version narrated by Cathleen McCarron and she did an excellent job with passion and pace. It's an excellent book to listen to and the story is unusual, to say the least. You will be glad you chose this story. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this audio ARC this is my opinion and I do recommend this book.

4.5 stars for My Daughter is Missing by JD Kirk.

I received an advance audiobook copy from netgalley.

This book will keep you guessing. You won't want to stop until it's over. I couldn't guess that ending.

I listened to this book and thought the narration was well done. Easy to follow. Fast paced and kept me on my toes.

I definitely recommend!

Overall I liked this book. I thought some of it was a bit far fetched but it kept me in suspense and wondering which I suppose is the goal. I did not love the ending and it did end up making me a bit confused.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 - Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reader copy

A parent's nightmare: the costume party's over, everyone else is leaving and your child still hasn't emerged from the building.  Is she slow changing? In the bathroom?  You and the custodial help are the only ones left. Something is wrong and panic ensues. There could be a basis as to why she's missing....you two have a history you're trying to escape from and now has your secret life been exposed ?

Elizabeth becomes a mom extraordinaire: a detective, a thief, a liar, a wielder of weapons and when all her individual skills fail she calls in a specialist. The specialist, or really a "fixer", is a family member without conscience in general but especially when this 9 year old is involved.

The pace and thrill of the book picks up exponentially when the new collaborator arrives on the scene. The relationship between them fluctuates between thankfulness and disbelief.

This is the type of audio book that keeps you driving around the block a few extra times to finish the chapter. The narrator was perfect as the descriptor of the characters.

Elizabeth's nine year old daughter Hollie has gone missing. She is desperate to find her, but with secrets to hide, she cannot go to the police for help. Instead, she is in a race against time and reaches out to a dark figure from her past for help tracking her little girl down.

Filled with secrets and scandal, this psychological thriller will take you for a wild ride and keep you guessing. The book started out fast paced, pulling me in and I quickly found myself invested. It slowed down a bit at times but picked right back up just in time for an explosive ending, proving a mother will stop at nothing to protect her child!

Thank you to Bookouture for the audio ARC of this book. The voice actor did a tremendous job bringing the different characters to life.

some ways, this book was all over the place. There’s a cheating significant other, a missing little girl, mental health issues, former crime, current crime, so many other things. It took me a while to get into the book. About 30 to 45 minutes and I was glad that I had stuck with it, but it was definitely a fight before then. So many facts that all seem nonsensical until you get near to the end. At that point, they fall into place and things start clicking together. I wish that there had been more development of the character Holly. It’s hard to care about envy invested in someone you don’t really know much about. Besides the fact that she wanted to win a costume party that’s all I really know about her, so I wish there had been more development there. There was a twist at the end. It was not expected, but it also didn’t completely surprise me.

The book was good, but I could take it or leave it. I just needed more.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC audiobook.
The story was good. It was definitely a different type thriller. Great twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
The narrator has a beautiful accent but is a bit distracting with a bit over the top dramatic reading.

3.75 stars! 🌟 Huge thanks to Bookouture for the ARC & Bookouture Audio for the ALC via NetGalley! 💌

From the very first page, this book grips you and doesn’t let go! Elizabeth’s daughter, Hollie, vanishes in broad daylight at a school Halloween party. One second she’s there, dressed in a big, bright butterfly costume, and the next—POOF—gone. Sounds like a parent's worst nightmare, right? But here’s where things get extra suspicious: when the school suggests calling the police, Elizabeth REFUSES. Like, full-on panic mode, "Nope, absolutely not, we do NOT call the cops" kind of reaction. 🚨👀

WHY, ELIZABETH?? WHAT are you hiding? WHO are you running from? And, most importantly, WHERE is Hollie?!?

This book had my brain doing cartwheels. The tension? SKY-HIGH. The twists? Unrelenting. And just when you think you’ve got it figured out? BAM. Another revelation hits like a freight train. Secrets, lies, and a whole lot of chaos—this book was SERVING.

Tropes:
✅ Missing Child
✅ Secretive Protagonist
✅ Family Drama
✅ Race Against Time
✅ Shocking Twists
✅ Distrust & Paranoia
✅ Unreliable Characters

🔥 THINGS I LOVED:

✧ Elizabeth and her sister, Sasha, working the case in completely different ways—total opposites, total entertainment.

✧ The super fast pace—no time to breathe, just pure thriller adrenaline.

✧ A few twists I genuinely didn’t see coming.

🤔 WHAT COULD’VE BEEN BETTER:

✧ The ending left me a bit confused—was it meant to be open-ended? Did I miss something? Either way, I wanted a bit more clarity.

✧ Some tropes felt a little overused, but the execution was still solid.

🎧 Audiobook thoughts:
Cathleen McCarron’s narration was fantastic—she really captured Elizabeth’s panic and made the whole thing even more intense. I’d 100% recommend the audio if you love a dramatic, immersive listen!

Final verdict? If you love twisty, edge-of-your-seat thrillers with secrets galore, this one’s for you! Just be prepared to second-guess EVERYTHING. 😵🔥
