One More Day of Us is another spectacular book by Shari Low. Love and loss, friendship that survives the years, heartache and ultimately, second chances fill One More Day of Us and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The three women, whose Hong Kong lives began in similar fashion, ended up being vastly different. But their friendship remained. Highly recommended.

Unlike the other books in this loosely connected series, the majority of the story takes place in Hong Kong, in 2 time frames, present and 34 years ago. Moira, who we've met in past books, has retired from her life as a cruise ship entertainer. She's getting ready to turn 60, and wants a chance to revisit her first real job out of the country, a singing role she did in Hong Kong, along with 2 other women who became her best friends, but haven't seen in many years. She invites them both and hopes for the best.

The rest of the book is a trip down memory lane in Hong Kong for Moira, Carina and one other unexpected guest. They share remembrances, visit old hangouts and manage to work through some emotional and physical challenges throughout the trip. Questions are answered and some unknowns are revealed before returning to the UK and Moira's next chapter there.

I enjoyed the deep friendship shared and grown in this book. I liked how the ladies really didn't try "acting their age", didn't let themselves get boxed into the expectations of others. I hope that there's another book in the series that will include more of Ollie and his new love.

The cacophony of street vendors, the neon lights illuminating the night, and the humid air thick with possibility all come alive on the page. Low masterfully captures their adventurous yet carefree spirit as the women live life to the fullest during their six-month stint. However, as the summer progresses, cracks begin to appear in their idyllic existence.

When their contracts come up for renewal, a pivotal decision must be made. Maura, eager to chase a solo career, decides to leave Hong Kong for new opportunities, while Carina and Lisa also feel the pull of other responsibilities. This departure introduces an intriguing layer of regret to their storyline, casting doubt on whether their parting was too hasty.
Fast forward 35 years, and One More Day of Us, where the characters have aged and moved in vastly different directions. Maura recently returned home after a career that spans cruise ships and pubs, fueled by an unyielding love for music. Carina is now grappling with the end of her seemingly perfect marriage after discovering her husband’s betrayal. Meanwhile, Lisa, the most talented, has lived a very mundane life wishing to be out of the spotlight, making sure her daughter, Stevie, does the same.

Most of the novel is told through the perspectives of Maura, Carina, and Stevie. Maura's narrative offers a reflective, almost wistful outlook after decades of pursuing her singing passion in a less glamorous world than she once imagined. Carina’s story introduces tension as she navigates the fallout of her marriage and rediscovers a sense of self. Stevie provides the balance between the past and present, allowing the strong friendships of 1990 to resonate across generations. What happened to her mother? Why did she just hide away? What secrets did she hide?

Where One More Day of Us truly has an exciting and engaging start. The 1990 sections of the novel are painted with rich, sensory language that pulls readers directly into the story. You can almost taste the food, feel the heat on your skin, and hear the applause for the friends’ performances. It’s a joy to experience the characters’ carefree days and see Hong Kong through their youthful eyes.

However, the ending does not live up to the powerful beginnings. Without giving too much away, the final chapters veer toward overly sentimental territory, creating an ending that feels more fitting for a Hollywood movie. The emotional impact that builds throughout the book is dampened by an ending that appears too neatly tied together, leaning on clichés rather than complexity.

While there are clear moments of brilliance in the novel's writing and characterizations, readers hoping for an ending that reflects the complexity of the characters’ journeys may leave them feeling bittersweet. For those who enjoy immersive stories about friendship and second chances (and don’t mind a touch of sentimentalism), this book still holds plenty of charm. Fans of lighthearted women’s fiction will find warmth and relatability in these pages.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely, though with tempered expectations. Prepare to be swept away by the writings of Low, depicting the beauty of 1990 Hong Kong and the emotional ties of enduring friendship—even if the ending doesn’t fully deliver on its early promise.

As a huge fan of Shari Low, I had high expectations for this book—and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. The plot is wonderfully unique, centering on three friends who reunite 35 years after their youth, only to find things unfolding in ways none of them could have imagined. The story shifts between 1990s Hong Kong and the present day, and the transitions are handled so smoothly that it really enhances the emotional depth. While I recognized a few characters from a previous book, this one works perfectly as a standalone. It’s a heartwarming read full of love, family, and the enduring strength of female friendship.

An absolute cracker of a book -
This book was like the holiday I didn't know I needed - it was so far removed from my own life that I just lost myself in the world Shari Low drew out on the pages before me.. As always with Shari's books the characters are very relatable. We are taken on the trip of a lifetime to Hong Kong, where Moira has planned a re-union with two of the best friends from her youth that over the years she's lost touch with. It turns out that only one can take up the offer, the other has passed away, but instead, her daughter arrives to learn more about her mother - the three women embark on an exploration of friendship, memories and of course, secrets - this is a hugely uplifting read perfect for a sunny afternoon in the back garden - you will not need to leave the deck chair to feel as if you've been on a real vacation!

I loved reading this book, and it was hard to put down.

This is a dual timeline story.

It’s 1990 in Hong Kong, Moira, Carina and Lisa are professional singers. They sing in hotels and enjoy their freedom, living their best lives, partying, sightseeing and having fun.

Now, in Glasgow, 2025 Moira, who has spent her life singing on cruise ships and pubs makes a decision that after 30 years, it’s now time to stop and do the one thing she’s always wanted to do, and that is go back to Hong Kong where her life started.

She invites Cara and Carina, but do they too head back, and see where it all began?

When she arrives in the same place her life started, Carina turns up too, but, instead of Lisa, her daughter Stevie turns up. She informs them that Lisa is no more.

She wants to know more about her mother and see what she used to do, the places she saw.

But, after the years the three friends spent together, now past secrets are revealed and Stevie may have more to ask than she thought.

I loved the setting, the characters and it made you feel as though you were there in Hong Kong with the girls.

I couldn’t put this book down.

I highly recommend this book.

“One More Day of Us” is by Shari Low. This book follows three women who meet in the 1990s in Hong Kong, fall out of touch over 30 years, and then reunite back in Hong Kong in 2025. While a lot has changed since their 1990s lives, their friendship over the six months they knew each other initially, is still strong. The book is told in flashback and present-day chapters. Keeping the characters straight was really easy - which I enjoyed. There’s a list of characters in the beginning of the book, which I found helpful. I found this book to be an engaging and easy read, with a little bit of Hong Kong travelogue tossed in as a nice bonus. There’s romance, there’s trying to figure out who you are, along with some wild nights - but at its heart, this is a book about friendship and family.

Shari Low is a go-to author for me and this story of three young women singers who become bosom buddies in the Hong Kong of the 1990's had the heartwarming friendships and romance that I anticipate in her work. A week-long reunion after over three decades apart in the place Moira, Carina and Lisa met and lived their musical dreams so fully before circumstances distanced them. Only saddened a bit by the sacrifices for family and vicissitudes of life, tempered with some happiness on the romantic front at the end.

It was really good, but I could not get over Lisa's sad portion of the story. Still, easy to get stuck into. I liked the alternating between present day and flashbacks to their time together as singing legends in the bars of Hong Kong before the China takeover.

A beautiful story of love and friendship. In 1990, Hong Kong three friends are loving life to the full. By 2025 after Moira has retired as a singer she suggests a reunion with the two friends, Carina and Lisa that she has lost touch with. Returning to Hong Kong to visit places from their past they are unaware of the memories that they will face and are unaware if these will bring them back together or push them apart. A well written story that brings the characters to life. I couldn’t put it down and was disappointed when I reached the last page.

Another fabulous page turner, I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down.

Jumping between former lives in 90’s Hong Kong as singers, to revisiting their past in present day Hong Kong, the story has excellent female protagonists, whose lives pull at the heartstrings, you really find yourself wanting the best for them and hoping they all make the right decisions.

There’s a reason why Shari Low is a bestseller - this one will undoubtedly join that club!

‘One More Day of Us’ by Shari Low is the first ARC I’ve read thanks to the publisher and NetGalley.

Mostly set in Hong Kong, this is a story of friendship, love, and betrayal which explores life for 3 close friends navigating through their performing careers, the endless partying that comes with their jobs, life post Hong Kong, and reconnecting more than 30 years later.

This is the first book I’ve read by Shari Low and enjoyed reading it. I liked the characters and the level of description around the settings, but found myself wanting more throughout the book. I wanted to know more about Lisa’s history, Stevie’s upbringing, Stevie and Ollie’s relationship and how it went with Moira and Nate reconnecting. I wanted to know more about Carina and Ben’s relationship too. It felt quite repetitive in places and rushed at the end.

For this reason I would say this was a 3/5 for me!

This was a predictable and a little cliched read, but nonetheless enjoyable. One More Day Of Us tells the story of three women who lived and worked together in Hong Kong in the 90s. Fast forward thirty years and one of them is trying to organise a reunion back in Hong Kong despite the fact they haven’t seen each other, and have hardly heard from each other, over the years. The story covers friendship, life, love and loss for different generations in different ways. I particularly loved the descriptions of Hong Kong, having spent a lot of time there. The characters weren’t developed as well as I would have liked; perhaps the book could have been a little longer and gone into more depth. The dual timeline worked well, and wasn’t a distraction as it can sometimes be. Perhaps a few too many side characters who never really stand out? Overall a great book to read over a slightly damp bank holiday weekend.

I love Shari Low's fiction! This one did not disappoint. A novel full of both heart and soul with unforgettable characters. Not to be missed.

A Shari Low book is an absolute pleasure to read but a huge dissappointment when it comes to the end.
Her characters jump from the pages and become your new best friends and the storyline winds up your emotions until laughter and tears merge.
It is always a wrench when the story ends and your new fictional friends have completed their journey, but they can always make an appearance in the next new Shari Low book!
I love the way she weaves characters from previous books into her new ones, as though their lives are carrying on in the background.
Put this book on your reading list.

I absolutely loved this book! It swept me away from the first page and was full of emotion and nostalgia and lovely characters. The writing is warm, vivid, and filled with heart. This was my second book by Shari Low and it definitely didn't disappoint. Moira’s journey is both poignant and empowering, and the themes of friendship, choices, and second chances were handled with such care. This is one of those books that will linger long after you've turned the last page. A total gem!

its Shari low, welcome. need i say more? not really. i could simply leave this at five stars MUST read and that would be enough. and probably better then i could ever go on to do in a review of her work. why? because she is simply one of the best. and if you see her name to a new book you must.just.read it.
and then spend time thinking over it and wondering if it will be embedded in your heart forever. and then when she brings out a new one you get to go back and google all the old ones and be once again reminded of all her great works and wonder if this new new one will now be the favourite.
so do read this book. read it now. and just feel better for doing so.
i want to hug the woman featured in this book. i want to know them in their past and in their present. i want to know more and heal more and just hang out with them. i love how we get to know so much of who they are both together and then how theyve lived since all those decades before.

Another absolutely fabulous book by Shari Low. She never fails to deliver on wonderful characters and a well finished story.

Moira decides that it's time to go back to Hong Kong and meet up with old friends and look up some old haunts so she sends letters to her 2 oldest friends that she spent her youth gigging in Hong Kong with and she heads off. When the time comes for then to meet, there are surprises all around.
Will the ladies reunion be all that Moira hopes it will be and will they reconnect like the old times.

A beautiful book about the power of love and relationships. Full of hope.
