This was a first read for me by Louise Bay. Tuesday is trying to save her job by going to London, where she not only has to come to terms with her relationship ending, but also deal with some of the unprocessed grief of her mom's death. When she gets there, she finds out that there is a conference for her favorite movie star, Daniel De Luca, whom she and her mom shared an obsession with when she was younger. Shortly after she arrives she meets Ben, a De Luca look alike, and it all feels like fate. Their paths cross more than can be coincidental, and Tuesday leans into this journey that the universe has taken them on. The story is a very cute rom-com, if not a bit cliché. I found the Daniel De Luca references to be a bit overdone, personally, but the story between Ben and Tuesday kept my attention enough to keep reading. It's cute, it's spicy, it's romantic, it touches grief and nostalgia, and there were a few chuckles from me here and there. I would definitely suggest this to any rom-com loving readers.

An American in London by Louise Bay is a story of unexpected turns; following Tuesday Reynolds, a banking project manager whose life is turned upside down, still grieving the loss of her mom, her college sweetheart Jed breaks her heart, and the bank she's dedicated years to is sold to a company across the pond. However, amidst these challenges, Tuesday finds comfort that her all-time favorite actor, Daniel DeLuca, is based in London. The hotel where she resides in London takes it a step further, promoting Daniel DeLuca's new movie with an exciting tour of every movie location, sparking anticipation and excitement. While touring the Greens, a park, she sees a man who looks like the man himself, Daniel DeLuca, only to be snubbed. She runs into the same man three times before introducing herself. Ben Kelley, the look-alike for Daniel DeLuca, is not impressed with this American woman who keeps following him, first the Greens, then the coffee shop, and now the hotel bar where he is meeting a friend and business colleague, Nick, for dinner to discuss purchasing the hotel from the Duke of Brandon.

Thanks to NetGalley, I was given both an Audiobook and an ebook to enjoy, and I did just that: I listened while I read along and laughed out loud at several of the scenes. I can't say enough good things about this billionaire, fake fiancée, romantic comedy! Well done, Louise Bay, on another sure-to-be-best seller.

This story felt like a fairy tale. Perhaps it was the blending of Tuesday’s real life London adventures with her reminiscences about her teenage movie star crush. Add in that her meet cute with Ben happened because she mistook him for that very same movie star, and it all felt like her dreams were playing out and coming true. To quote Tuesday, sometimes you just can’t escape fate!

Ben is a grumpy billionaire who comes into Tuesday's life while she’s dealing with a temporary work project in London on the heels of a breakup, losing her apartment, and uncertainty about the future of her job. He’s distant at first, but ends up being so very thoughtful. I especially loved that he leaned into her movie star crush, watched those movies, and acknowledged their very own relationship tropes. I swooned when he helped make a list of them - holiday romance, grumpy/sunshine, billionaire, and fake engagement. So many of my favorites all in one story! I also loved the witty banter and the chemistry between Tuesday and Ben. She gives the perfect description of being a conscious moth aware of the flame. She can’t deny the attraction, and he ends up being the ideal leading man. I loved their magical story and the way the credits rolled on their perfect ending!

The only way to enjoy this story more is to listen to it in audio. Erin Mallon is always a delight, and she was simply wonderful in this audiobook. She is a consummate actor and was always pitch perfect in her portrayal of Tuesday. Her voice for Ben was incredible, and her British accents were amazing. You won't want to miss it!

An American in London is a romantic comedy by Louise Bay. I have previously read Louise Bay before, but I think this is my favorite one so far! Tuesday Reynolds is having a rough time, her fiancé dumped her, her job is at risk and now she is in London trying to save her job. Her luck changes, when at a coffee shop she meets, Ben Kelley, a grumpy British billionaire. Ben needs a fake fiancé to help with a business deal, and Tuesday is the perfect woman for the job. Except what happens when the relationship starts feeling real. This book made me want to dig out my passport and go to London to find my own Ben Kelley. This is exactly what I want in a romantic comedy. The chemistry between Ben and Tuesday was undeniable. Their banter was swoon worthy. I felt like I was watching one of my favorite romantic comedies from the 2000s. I loved the Daniel De Luca plot line and how it helped Tuesdays character development and the development of Tuesdays and Ben’s relationship. If you are a fan of meet cutes, fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, and billionaire romances, this is the book for you. This was such a lovely read!

This was the perfect balance of slow and fast burn, given the length and timeline of the book. The relationship between Tuesday and Ben moves quite quickly, but the buildup and tension before they get together was amazing. The chemistry was so real and believable. I was rooting for them the entire time!

While this wasn’t my first Louise Bay book, it is definitely my favorite! It really did feel like I was watching a 2000s romcom unfold on the pages <3

This is a really sweet love story. Total romcom vibes. The banter between the two main characters had me laughing out loud several times. I appreciated that there weren't any major miscommunications or outside forced trying to keep Ben and Tuesday from each other. Very low angst and light spice. This was my first book by Louise Bay and I am excited to read more.

Unfortunately this book didn't work for me.
The Daniel De Luca obsession was too much for me and Tuesday's (the FMC) behavior weirded me out so I've decided to put this book on hold at 9% (chapter 4).

I never force myself to finish a book and I don't rate books I haven't finished but I'm putting this on hold and hope to get back to it in the future. If or when I do I will update my review and add a rating.

Louise Bay brings us a story of how American Tuesday Reynold's life blows up in her face when her fiancé of ten years leaves her and her job is in jeopardy. In order to salvage it, she is sent to London to see if she can prove that she is right for the job. What she doesn't expect is being in a hotel surrounded by images of her childhood crush. She is super excited when she spots him in the park while exploring London before heading in to work. Imagine her surprise when he not only doesn't answer her, but scowls at her! Turns out, it wasn't even him. Even worse-she keeps running into him at the coffeehouse and the bar where she is staying. She finally introduces herself to him only to have him not care enough to share his name. It all changes when his friend stops by and invites her to join them for dinner. What is more surprising is that he comes back to ask her to join them and then takes her drink, so she has no other option but to follow him. Turns out he needs her help in securing some hotels and the other way is for them to pretend to be a couple. Will his plan work? Will they be able to pull it off, or will being that close to each other for a weekend ruin their chances?

Louise Bay brings us a fun story where the universe keeps throwing the same people together to see what they will do each time they run into each other. Tuesday is quirky and fun while Ben is serious and business oriented. She brings out the fun in him while he tries to keep things on a less personal level. What can happen when you have two very different people pretending sparks are flying between them? Will the pretending turn into the real thing? Or will it just show how good of an actor they both are? Will the goal of getting the hotels be the only reason why they fake this relationship, or can it turn into the real thing? I enjoyed reading the fun banter between these two characters and going on an adventure with them to see what happens next.

Tuesday comes to London for work. Coincidentally, there's a conference for her favourite rom-com actor in her hotel. Also, she runs into a look-alike of this actor several times over the next days. And then we have a fake engagement. That might have been a bit too much for my taste.

I LOVED IT!!! Ben and Tuesday are the most adorable pair in the entire fictional universe.
I don't have enough words to convey much i freaking loved this story.
I captivated by these two from beginning to end. I just couldn't put it down and I had a smile on my face the entire time, well except the times i had to sniffle a tear or two.

Overall this was an excellent fake dating billionaire romance filled with witty banter, heartfelt and swoony moments, British aristocracy, and a journey of healing and self discovery.

This is definitely a new comfort read and one i will be rereading for ages.

I have never read anything by this author, but I will be looking out for other books they write in the future. I really enjoyed the story as well as the pacing of the story.

A very classic Louise Bay book! I enjoyed the characters and the story! Tuesday and Ben had great chemistry and banter! Ben is such a swoon worthy grumpy lead! I had a lot of fun reading this book!

I devoured this book — it was exactly what my heart needed right now. Sweet, swoony, and just the right touch of spice. Every character brought something to the table, and I found myself smiling through so many scenes.

This book was the perfect light-hearted easy read. Full of all my favorite tropes and set in one of my favorite cities, it was easy to fall in love with these characters and their love story. I wish there had been a little more care in the language used surrounding sex workers (this is not a plot point in the story, but there is some insinuation about the FMC feeling like a sex worker because of a deal made between her and the MMC). Those few mentions took me out of the story a little bit, but I did enjoy it overall.

I really enjoyed this story it was written really well. The main characters were great. The chemistry between Tuesday ( love her name) and Ben were beautiful. Even though Ben was grumpy and growly his undercover sweet side was swoon worthy. I loved how he treated Tuesday. I would recommend this book, great story.

I loved this book. The character development was thorough and felt real. I enjoyed the fake relationship trope. Tuesday honestly came off as a genuine person working through her grief.

He will have to charm the Duke who owns it. One problem in order to get access to the Dukes dinner. He needs to find someone to play his fiancé. Since the Duke is hard set on family values and those deep connections.

This story is filled with cavity worthy romance, fun adventures, fake engagement, spice, beautiful locations, moments of processing grief, and finding who you truly are.

Love, love, love Tuesday and Ben! London is my happy place, and I couldn’t wait to read this. It is such a great book!

Louise Bay is fantastic and I enjoy everything she writes. I love that she is being widely offered and this book just proves she deserves the world because it was fantastic. The main character is swoony. The meeting between the two is so fun and adorable.

A wonderful read!
This novel drew me in from the very first page and kept me hooked until the end. The characters were vibrant and relatable, the writing was engaging, and the story had just the right balance of heart and humor. Highly recommend!
