I almost skipped this book when I saw it involved a superhero and had Marvel in the series title. I am not a big fantasy reader. But since I’ve enjoyed Lisa Jewell’s other novels, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I’m so glad I did! While it wasn’t my favorite of hers, there’s just something about Lisa Jewell’s writing that always pulls me in. This is the first installment in the new Marvel Crime series, and despite my initial hesitation, I’m actually looking forward to reading the next one when it comes out.

Breaking the Dark introduces Jessica Jones, a retired superhero turned private investigator, who is drawn into a mysterious case involving two teenagers displaying unnervingly perfect behavior after a summer in the UK. Their mother, Amber, believes her children have been replaced by something sinister. Jessica’s investigation leads her to the secluded village of Barton Wallop, where she encounters Belle, a peculiar girl with a hidden agenda. As Jessica delves deeper, she uncovers dark secrets that challenge her perceptions of reality.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend.

I loved Breaking the Dark and this is such a great resource for the book! The interview with the author gives great insight into her thought process did the book. The questions for the book club are thoughtful and will bring a great discussion. And I really love the word game, great fun for those more introverted during book club.

Not what i was expecting. I was hoping the bookmarks would have been cooler. Other than that I think it reflects the book well. I love Marvel, and this being part of Marvel is AMAZING!

It contains great tips for the book and reading it with others. I also liked the elements like the printable bookmark.

This is such a great companion for a book. I particularly love the recipe suggestions and the recommendations for what to read next after finishing the book.
