Scott blends memoir, leadership theory, and practical exercises into a compelling guide for aspiring and early-career leaders. Drawing from his journey—from struggling with dyslexia to leading Tulane University through Hurricane Katrina—Scott emphasizes that leadership is not innate but developed through self-awareness, resilience, and purposeful action.

Each of the ten chapters focuses on a core principle: leadership requires authenticity, collaboration, adaptability, and vulnerability. Success is reframed not as titles or wealth but as the ability to make a lasting positive difference. Scott’s candid reflections, paired with reflection and action prompts, encourage readers to define their own values, learn from mistakes, and cultivate resilience in times of crisis.

Accessible and inspiring, the book serves as both a mentor’s conversation and a workbook. Ultimately, Lead and Succeed urges readers to embrace leadership as a lifelong process of becoming, defined by impact, integrity, and legacy.

I loved the quick chapters and the prompts after each chapter. This book will be enjoyed by all types of leaders, either new or wanting to change things up with their leadership style.
