A friend recommended this book to me and I’m glad he did. I really liked it. It has an intriguing idea of a comic book writer becoming the superhero he created in real life. The pretend website section near the beginning, giving a fictional history of the comic book superhero the main character has created, is particularly imaginative. The twisty ending is a gem, and also cleverly ties up loose ends. It should be a movie!

This is a clever, twisty novel which deals with addiction but not in the way you would expect. Although the story has a generally serious tone to it, there is plenty of humour with the author even playfully parodying the superhero genre. As the story progresses, you gradually realise what has really been going on, leading to an explosive final third. Hope there's a sequel.

DNF @70%

I am not a DNF-er. I really do push through almost anything, but this was sucking the life out of me a bit. I wanted humour. I thought it would be a silly goofy fun time, but by 50%, I felt like we were still in set-up mode, waiting for it to get going. There were maybe 2 moments that got a chuckle out of me in the >70% that I read. The language, particularly around drugs and smoking, felt cringey and unnatural too which just gave the whole thing a stoic, slow and frankly boring feel. I was struggling to pick this up so just had to call it a day.
