Another great read by Elizabeth Goddard. Lots of twists and turns and was hard to put down. Jo witnessed a murder while on the Ferry. Cole came to her rescue her and together they try to solve the mystery of her mothers death.

I wish I had found this author sooner. While this book can be read as a standalone it mentions characters and events that overlap with the previous book and probably the next.

Perilous Tides is a suspense filled book from beginning to end. The danger stalks Jo Cattrell from the first chapter until near the end. There aren’t many breathers from the action.
Cole Mercer returns to the Pacific Northwest at just the right moment to prevent this from being a very short book due to death of the FMC.
Cole struggles to keep Jo safe while they also grapple with their feelings for each other.
Perilous Tides is a story of hidden identities and past dangers manifesting in the present.
The romance is good. We get to see Hawk and Remi from the first book in the series.
Truthfully, I’m still reeling from the things revealed in the story. What is made fiction here has a mirror in past events in the world outside fiction.
Perilous Tides will keep you in the edge of your seat.
Thanks to Netgalley and Revell for the opportunity to read the book.

I had forgotten some of the details from the first book—especially the backstory between Jo and Cole—so the opening chapters left me trying to recall what had unfolded between them. But as the story progressed, their history and present connection were revealed with intrigue and tension. Cole reenters Jo’s life after mysteriously disappearing on an op, now offering to help uncover the truth about her mother’s past.

With Remi and Hawk by their side, Jo and Cole must navigate mounting threats and hidden dangers, especially as Jo realizes her parents’ past is far more complicated than she ever imagined. There were subtle clues scattered throughout the story, but I found myself guessing until the very end—surprised more than once by the twists along the way.

*A big thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC and for the opportunity to post an honest review

TREACHEROUS TIMES

Elizabeth Goddard’s Hidden Bay Series is truly impressive, and her latest installment, PERILOUS TIDES, exemplifies a romance driven by suspense—my favorite genre! Goddard has crafted a phenomenal, fast-paced storyline that captivates readers from the very first page and keeps them breathless until the end. One of my favorite quotes from this book is, “You won’t see danger coming . . . until it’s too late.” Goddard uses this quote to build tension throughout the narrative.

The characters in PERILOUS TIDES are intriguing and multi-dimensional, with danger following them wherever they go. Goddard's plot is intense, and her writing immerses readers in the action, making them feel like active participants rather than passive observers. Once again, she weaves a simmering romance into the story, as the two main characters attempt to postpone their "Define the Relationship" (DTR) conversation until the danger has passed.

Hidden Bay has become a secret refuge on the beautiful but rugged coast of Washington where Jo Cattrel is a forensic artist but has the skills to fix almost anything. Cole Mercer, her ex and former Green Beret and is now a private investigator. The first chapter starts out with a bang with a harrowing incident, but this storyline is so multi-layered with twists and turns that I never anticipated. It is effortless to become invested in her characters; they are very relatable and warm. The pace of the novel is skillfully crafted, and my reading time flew by in a flash. I am always astounded that Elizabeth Goddard can keep me glued to her novels with a phenomenal romantic suspense.
This is book two in the Hidden Bay series and can definitely be read as a stand-alone, but you would definitely miss out on a fantastic series. I am anxiously awaiting Deadly Currents which is book three that will release in February 2026. I have read several of her novels and thoroughly enjoyed them. She is a prolific author, and a USA Today best-selling author with multiple awards, including the coveted Christy Award.

Riding on a ferry was never so scary as it was when Jo Catrell witnessed a murder while riding on one. She was already concerned about possible danger, but now this has kicked it up to a higher level. My heart was racing as her ex-boyfriend, Green Beret Cole Mercer, comes to Jo’s rescue in an unexpected way.

Ms.Goddard weaves a tale of murder, suspense, and plot twists that I was kept guessing until the end. Everyone was a suspect in my mind, even those who were trying to help. I always enjoy reading the author’s books and this was another great one that I’d highly recommend reading.

A favorite quote: “The smallest details can have the biggest impact.”
This is the second book in the Hidden Bay series. It can be read as a standalone, but there are characters from the first book that I was glad to see in this book. I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series.

I received a copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

You won’t see danger coming…until it’s too late. - Jo’s mom before she dies.

Jo Cattrel, forensic artist, has spent the last 3 years trying to understand what her mother meant and how danger could possibly find her in Hidden Bay. But somehow it does! This story will have you at the edge of your seat, holding your breath and wondering if this mystery will ever be solved.

The smallest details seem to have the biggest impact but explosions, attempted murder, unexpected swims in very cold water and more tend to leave a rather large impression as well. Everything has occurred for a reason but will that rationale finally be uncovered before someone dies? Jo knows that God is with her and her friends are there as well but will the past of her parents catch up with her present before this mystery is unraveled?

An early copy was received through Revell, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

Forensic artist Jo Cattrel fled Michigan after her mother died. Now she is on the run again after a warning that her dad gave before he disappeared. Cole Mercer left her without a word but is back at Hidden Bay to protect her and search for her mother’s killer, with the hope of never having to leaver her again.
This was one exciting story with lots of elusive clues and confounding connections. But Jo and Cole have help from law enforcement and Hawk, Cole’s brother, who owns a handy helicopter.
Set in a beautiful, rustic environment in Washington State, the bad guys do not let up. There are so many unanswered questions about family that Jo can hardly keep up. And the closer to the truth, the more danger. But that only helps them rely on God and further their tenuous relationship.
Get ready for a stunning story with a solid faith thread and a steadily building romance. You will not be disappointed.

Jo has been in hiding but when she gets an odd message from her father, she knows something is wrong. Attempting to follow him, she finds herself witnessing a murder and then being sent overboard the ferry into the depths of the cold water. This just might be the end, the found her after all! Cole has been hired to look into a murder from years ago. This investigation sends him back to his past where he knows he has some explaining to do and where things will get even more complicated with someone he loves being involved. I really enjoyed all the twists, turns and thrills in this one. There is so much to Jo's story as well as Cole working to help uncover the truth about her mother, father and just who might be looking for her all these years later. Thank you to the author and publisher for the complementary novel and allowing me to be a part of the launch team. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

Perilous Tides is the second book in Elizabeth Goddard's Hidden Bay series. I have not read the first in the series but it didn't affect my understanding of what was going on at all. From the first line I was hooked. This was so suspenseful with the romance definitely taking a back seat. This is the type of suspense novel I love. I want to be left guessing and second guessing over the course of the book. This fit that exactly. Jo Cattrel, a forensic artist, wants to find out exactly what happened to her dead mother and will not stop until she knows the truth. After nearly being killed herself Jo must turn to her ex, former Green Beret, Cole Mercer. Together they face a lot in order to come out on the other side and have their happy ending. I loved the characters and the setting of the Washington coast definitely added to the eerie feeling of the book. This was certainly one of those stories that I didn't want to put down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Perilous Tides is a sterling addition to the Hidden Bay series! I loved the first book in this series and had high hopes for this one! My expectations were decidedly fulfilled and exceeded! The formidable opening lines swept me into the story, and the perfectly paced plot, with precisely placed, impactful twists and revelations kept me fully invested in the outcome! The skillful intertwining of suspense, romance, and faith provided me with a captivating and fulfilling reading experience. The rugged, richly drawn Pacific Northwest setting ramps up the danger and suspense. As forensic artist Jo Cattrel seeks to unravel the mystery involving her deceased mother and elusive father, private investigator Cole Mercer, with whom she has a very complicated past, goes above and beyond to help and protect her. I love this couple who headline the expertly crafted, compelling, and engaging cast of characters. As danger raises the emotional stakes, the potential for a second chance romance kept me rooting for a happily ever after future for Jo and Cole. I appreciate the inspiring faith thread with themes of trust and forgiveness. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it and the series as must reads for romantic suspense fans.

Knowledge may be power, but sometimes it can be dangerous to your health, or even your life. Jo Cattrel is about to learn this lesson in a very scary way.

Jo has been in hiding in a small town in Washington since her mother's death three years ago. It was ruled accidental, but Jo has never believed that it was accidental. She has received a puzzling message from her father which brings her out of hiding. From there things get absolutely bonkers and incredibly dangerous. After she is almost killed, she is surprised to find her rescuer is her ex, Cole Mercer.

Cole Mercer is a former green beret who has a very interesting job. I will not share anymore than to say it was interesting. He is definitely someone you want in your corner as he possesses some very unique skills and some very unique friends.

After Jo's near death experience and rescue, this complex mystery takes off and never slows down again until the final pages.

There are so many things I could write about this book and the mystery within it, but one thing that really stuck out to me inside this book was when Cole forgot all about his fears to rescue someone that was in trouble. When he dove into that water, he had no clue who he was rescuing. He put his fears aside as his protective instincts took over. He was a true hero in every sense of the word. The faith thread was an important factor in this story as well.

Elizabeth Goddard launched this rocket right out of the stratosphere. This book was absolutely, mind-boggling and incredible. I actually feel like I need a nap after reading this high-powered, non-stop action mystery.

Thank you to the author and Revell for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Perilous Tides is a gripping and well-written tale of danger and mystery for Jo Cattrel as soon as the story begins. Elizabeth Goddard has written an intriguing plot with good characters and just the right amount of mystery to keep readers turning pages. Jo is searching for her father after he sent her a cryptic message, when she becomes the prey for an unknown predator. Cole Mercer, returning to town to help Jo solve her mother’s murder, is suddenly rescuing someone from the water after a vehicle falls off the ferry. Jo and Cole have to work together to protect Jo while also trying to figure out who is after Jo, where is Jo’s father, and who killed Jo’s mother. Danger keeps mounting, and the author has done a wonderful job keeping readers engaged. Readers learn a lot about Jo and some about Cole. Secondary characters play a lesser role, but are still important to this story. Jo and Cole cling to their faith to get through perilous and terrifying events. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspenseful plot or just needs a good story for a literary escape. I am eager to read the next book in this series.

Perilous Tides pulled me straight into that cold, churning uncertainty where danger feels one step behind and truth costs more than you want to pay. There’s something about this coastal setting—isolated, raw, unrelenting—that fits the story so well. I could feel the wind, hear the water crashing, sense the tension in every hidden motive.

The characters felt real to me, scarred by loss and secrets, yet still pushing forward. I loved how their choices weren’t easy or obvious. The danger was physical and emotional, rooted in family betrayals and old wounds that never quite heal.

Elizabeth Goddard knows how to keep the tension sharp without losing the heart of her characters.

The faith element was subtle, mostly limited to prayers and quiet integrity. I found myself wanting more depth there.

This is the kind of suspense I enjoy—dangerous, layered, unwilling to promise easy answers. I’m glad I spent time with these characters, chasing down truth in places it was never welcome.
