“I would do anything for you. Don’t you know that?” “I don’t know that. I want to believe you. But you promised to tell me, and so far you haven’t.” “I didn’t come back because I was protecting you.”
Are you ready to be swept away in these “Perilous Tides”? 😍 I definitely was swept away from the first chapter! The danger and suspense do not stop as deep family secrets are uncovered. I loved getting to “see” more of the Olympic Peninsula too!
Jo is brave and strong. She is determined to see this investigation through no matter the danger. I loved how she worked through her distrust and feelings of abandonment and was able to give Cole a second-chance. Cole is intelligent, brave, and incredibly protective. I absolutely loved how he balanced his investigation with protecting Jo. It was very interesting to see how he as a private investigator worked with all the different agencies that ended up working on Jo’s case.
I really enjoyed seeing Remi and Hawk again as well. Hawk and Cole working together was fun after book one.
A few more quotes:
“I wanted you to be free, Jo. Free to live your life the way you want, not holed up in… yeah, a beautiful place, but you have so much to offer the world.”
“Are you worried that you won’t be enough? Because if that’s it, I’ll tell you right now you are absolutely all I need.”
“What are you going to do now, Jo? Are you going to stay with me, you know, like maybe for a lifetime?”

I enjoyed reading Perilous Tides, the second book in Elizabeth Goddard’s Hidden Bay romantic suspense series. I read the book quickly, within twenty-four hours, because I couldn’t put it down. Jo has been hiding in Hidden Bay, Washington, for three years after her mother was murdered in Michigan. Her father, who she met after her mother passed, is now missing. Jo is worried and she’s searching for her father.
Cole served in the military in special forces and he’s now a private investigator. He’s back in Washington to investigate Jo’s mother’s murder. The cold case has been reopened in Michigan and the main suspect’s sister has hired Cole to clear her brother’s name.
Cole and Jo’s meet cute, on the water in Puget Sound, is terrifying and action packed. Jo witnesses a murder and Cole rescues her from a life threatening situation. They’re shocked to see each other again in dire circumstances. They previously dated until a few months ago when Cole left Hidden Bay and ghosted Jo.
Danger surrounds them from multiple sources. Jo has trust issues, and she is forced to rely on Cole, and others in Hidden Bay, to stay safe. Secrets are revealed from Jo’s past that makes her question everything she believed was true regarding her biological parents.
Cole and Jo’s reunion romance is delightful and I enjoyed journeying with them as they overcame many obstacles in the story. The twist and turns in the suspense plot kept me guessing through to the satisfying story ending. I recommend Perilous Tides to romantic suspense readers who like second chances romances with high octane suspense and relevant faith elements that include trust and forgiveness themes.
Many thanks to Revell and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.

USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard has written an action-packed suspenseful story. It is a page-turner and whodunit with no break in the action. There is also a sizzling romance factor between Jo Cattrell and her ex, Green Beret Cole Mercer turned private investigator. His goal is to help Jo discover who murdered her mother. Will they be successful in finding the truth before time runs out? I highly recommend it!
I read a complimentary copy from Net-Galley. My opinions are my own.

Elizabeth Goddard is a consistently good suspense writer, and this release is another winner!
It does help to have read the previous book in the series first, for background; it had been just long enough for me, I'd forgotten I'd read it, but Goddard does fill in some of the blanks and that helped.
I grew up in the PNW and so enjoyed the setting (especially as the summer temps ramp up in the South, where I am now); I could vicariously cool off a bit! And now I really want a ferry ride...but certainly an uneventful one, not like in the book. :)
Ongoing action from start to finish kept me reading at every turn ("just one more page/chapter" for sure!).
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

** “A person just never knew what the future held. Only God knew, and he had her in the palm of his hand right now.” **
Elizabeth Goddard continues her thrilling series of refuge at the Cedar Trails Lodge in “Perilous Tides.”
Jo Cattrel, forensic artist and maintenance worker at the lodge, is determined to prove her mother did not accidentally die in a car accident. But when her father, whom she was recently was reacquainted with, goes missing, she knows there’s more to the story. After a series of deadly occurrences happen, she turns to Cole Mercer for help, the man she lost her heart to whom also left her with no word.
As more and more potentially fatal events happen, can Jo and Cole figure out the truths surrounding her parents, or will it be too late?
Goddard does an incredible job, as usual, of filling a plot with twists and turns, all while including just enough romance to please the reader. She creates intriguing characters, with both flaws and strengths. And she includes some great themes, like reveling in the beauty of God’s creation; God is good and He holds our future in His hands; overcoming insecurities; and trusting others.
Fans of authors like Carrie Stuart Parks, Lynette Eason, Lisa Harris, Patricia Bradley and Terri Blackstock will truly enjoy “Perilous Tides,” which is due out July 15. The final book in the series is due out February 2026.
Five stars out of five.
Revell provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.

I couldn't put it down! "You won't see danger coming....until it's too late." "Those words, shared by her mother moments before her death, had defined Jo Cattrel's life for the last three years, since she'd fled Michigan." "More surprising to Jo than being in danger is the identity of the person who steps in to protect none other than her ex, former Green Beret Cole Mercer." Excellent story, so enjoyed these two characters, and it was fun to see Remi and Hawk from Book 1 in the Hidden Bay series.
From the very start, Perilous Tides totally grabbed my attention and kept me turning pages. I was fully invested in finding out who was behind the murder and mayhem. I am loving this series and highly recommend it to lovers of romantic suspense!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

Jo is literally thrown off a ferry, very nearly to her death, in the first few chapters of her story. That truly set the stage for a story of action with a complicated plot that tied to Jo's parents. In that same space of time, the man who comes to her rescue is her ex, Cole. He rescued her and gave her a another chance to live while asking for another chance for them. From there the story weaves the plot of understanding who wants to kill Jo into a second chance love story.
Admittedly, I was pulled into the story with that fantastic start. The plot summary tells us that Jo witnesses a murder so that was no surprise. However, the author drew us in by upping the stakes immediately and putting Jo's live in peril. It is only sheer luck or perhaps a blessing that Cole was where his heart needed him to be to save her. As the danger increases, we see Jo and Cole struggling to both solve the case and build the second chance they deserve. One of the things that drew me in was her job as a forensic artist and I wish that part of the story would have been discussed more but she did use her talent to help where possible. It was interesting early on when she mentioned understanding finally what it was like on the other side. That threw more for a bit before I realized she was talking about going from impartial observer to almost victim and witness.
This was a faith based story but I that was a little more subtle than other stories I have read. It was tastefully explored without overwhelming the plot as I have seen at other times.
Thanks to NetGalley and Revell and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Perilous Tides

Pub Date: July 15, 2025
Thanks to the author, Revell, and Netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This action-packed clean thriller set on the Washington coast serves up a complex plot and sizzling second-chance romance that readers of Irene Hannon and Lynn H. Blackburn will enjoy.
Three years after her mother's suspicious death, forensic artist Jo Cattrel is in hiding, working at a storm-watching lodge along the Washington coast. When her father sends her a disturbing and cryptic message, Jo leaves the safety of the lodge to find him. But during the ferry crossing, Jo witnesses a murder--and becomes a target.
What a good book! I enjoyed it and it is full of suspense and intrigue with a little romance thrown in.

What an exciting second installment to the Hidden Bay series by Elizabeth Goddard!
This time readers get to read Jo’s story – the handy woman we meet in book one. Jo is on the way to find her father who left her a cryptic message that she’s in danger. And boy, isn’t that the truth! While on the ferry, she witnesses a murder and then becomes the target for the rest of the entire novel.
Former Green Beret Cole Mercer, is on a mission to protect Jo, even though she doesn’t know it. Investigating her mother’s mysterious death, Cole will stop at nothing to prevent the same fate from happening to Jo.
And readers who enjoyed Remi and Hawk’s story, will get plenty of time with this couple as they assist Jo and Cole.
This book has everything the romantic suspense reader enjoys – action, twists, chemistry, and unexpected surprises – all leading to a happily-ever-after.
I really did not figure this story out – which made it so much more enjoyable to read.
I loved it! Can’t wait to read the next one.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Perilous Tides is the second book in the Hidden Bay series by Elizabeth Goddard. It is not imperative to read the first book; it is fine as a stand-alone novel. The author is doing a great job at writing suspenseful Christian fiction without gore and a light Christian message. The characters read Bible verses and remember to pray in dangerous situations.
In Perilous Tides, Jo Cattrel is hiding away in the Washington State forest for no other reason than her mother begged her to before her death. Having recently connected to her biological father, Jo takes the ferry to meet with him and witnesses a murder. Former Green Beret, Cole Mercer, used to know Jo but ghosted her about a year ago for personal reasons. But he's back just in time to rescue her from a murderer. As Jo and Cole look into her mother's death more closely, danger seems to follow their every step. But is the murderer out for Jo or Cole? You must read Perilous Tides for yourself to discover the bad guy and their motives.
I enjoyed reading Perilous Tides. I live in Washington State and am familiar with the places mentioned in the book. Elizabeth Goddard is a talented writer and I look forward to the next book in the series!

The second in the Hidden Bay series will send readers on a perilous journey of mystery as Jo tries to find out who is trying to kill her. Lots of twists and turns, a murder to solve and many clues to unravel. This is very fast paced and hard to put down. I would recommend reading the first in the series, Storm Warning to set the stage for this book. Looking forward to the next in the series. Recommended.

Another 5 star for Mrs Goddard’s books!!
This was such an amazing book! I didn’t think I could love Elizabeth Goddard’s book more but this is a definite must read. If you love high stakes, clean romantic suspense you’ll fall in love with Perilous Tides and the first book too. There was a lot of danger with twists and turns that catch you off guard at every turn. I loved how Cole tries his absolute hardest to protect and keep Jo safe from all harm against her. Elizabeth knocked this book out of the park!!!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Suspense & mystery collide in this novel set on the Washington coast. Characters from Storm Warning appear in this story. Romance while escaping death will keep you turning pages. This book was provided to me by the author and publisher for me to read. The thoughts appearing here are my own opinion.

Jo wants to find out who killed her mother and why her father has disappeared and tole he that if he stayed she was in danger. After witnessing a murder on the ferry and finding herself zipped tied to a car that is now sinking to the bottom of the bay her savior is Cole the one person she thought she would never see again. As the danger continues Cole helps her try and find her father to get answers and seek out the truth about her mother's death.
The one thing I would have to say that annoyed me was the repetition of the phrase her mother was murdered it came up in almost every chapter we found that out in the very first chapter and I felt it was an unnecessary comment to be repeated in each chapter. It actually made the book less enjoying to me.
Thank you for the ARC copy.

Forensic artist Jo Catrell has been in hiding since her mother’s sudden death. Now her biological father whom she calls “Pops” has warned her that she needs to disappear again, leaving Hidden Bay behind and finding a new place to hide. In her quest to find her dad and talk to him about her situation and why she is in danger, she immerses herself into even more danger when she witnesses a murder. Targeted and running from an unknown assailant, Jo is surprised that the man who teams up with her is her former boyfriend, former Green Beret Cole Mercer. When Cole disappeared from her life before, she never expected to see him again, but there he is, just in the nick of time and rescuing her from certain death. The danger is real, the secrets are buried deep, and together Jo and Cole set out to discover who wants her dead and why. The plot is complex, a web of lies and deceit that carried me along on the waves of total entertainment as I got wrapped up in riding that wave to the truth. I enjoyed the interactions between Cole and Jo as they discover a second chance at love, if she can just survive. The plot held me completely captivated as one layer after another about the past that killed Jo’s mom is exposed, with some surprising and tantalizing twists. This book kept me engaged in the story, cheering for the characters and really wanting to know who the villains were and what in the world they could want with a forensic artist who was totally ignorant of her past roots and the troubles that her parents unknowingly led to her safe place in Hidden Bay. The scene is perfect for the encroaching threats, with a wild and stormy sea along with a threatening storm all around Jo. The tone was one of intense danger and the need to know before her ignorance gets her killed. I especially enjoyed the characters from Storm Warning appearing in this book to offer assistance to Jo and Cole. It was good to read more about Remi and Hawk and the progression of their relationship. This book is compelling suspense, taut and unpredictable, but also enticing as the clues were laid out methodically by the hand of a master storyteller. With crisp writing, escalating tension and high drama, this book hooked me with the believable characters and the creeping dread that seemed to follow Jo everywhere. Perilous Tides can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the series in order and really enjoying the rich, descriptive details of Hidden Bay.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.

A moving story with great depth. The characters are very true to life and could be someone we knew. Such a reminder of family and friends and building honest open relationships.

jo is trying to find who killed her mother and find her father. but now someone is after her. cole is hired to follow jo and try to keep her safe and find out who did cause her mothers death. but now is is trying to keep her alive. and help find her father. if you like suspense you will want to read the book. it is a page turner from the start to the end. could not put the book down. i was given a copy of the book from netgalley but this is an honest review

Perilous Tides captured my attention from the very beginning. It is a romantic, suspenseful mystery filled with intrigue, surprises, and unexpected twists and turns throughout the story. Jo has been in hiding for three years following the death of her mother. When her father disappears, she is determined to find out why and what really happened to her mother. As danger follows Jo, her ex-boyfriend, Cole, shows up at the right time and place to save her. He is determined to help her solve the two mysteries and keep her safe. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing as to the suspect. I enjoyed reconnecting with the characters from the first book in the Hidden Bay series. Although this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading both of them for the full back-story. This is another great read by Elizabeth Goddard.

So I think there was a book before this in this series, and I did not read it. So I was a bit lost on the characters and their back story.. If you haven't read the first book, I'd enoucrgae you to read it first before diving into this one, because it's going to help you know the characters and backstory more. That being said, once I caught up to what was going on, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I've read almost everything Elizabeth has written, although apparently not the book before this! ha! And she does such a great mixture of romantic Christian suspense. Right up there with Patricia Bradley in my book.

Loved reading the fabulous and fantastic inspirational story. When Jo is on the ferry after trying to unsuccessfully find her dad, she sees a murder, drowning in a car with the dead body, Cole saves her, and Cole tells her his purpose is to help find who murdered Jo's mom. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of suspense and mystery, and a must read riveting story.
