eerie, gorgeous and a bit confusing :)

I don't read a lot of historical fiction, more often than not I find it a bit boring… It was no different in the beginning of this book. If I am honest, the first 30% of the book was making me snore, I almost DNFed it!!! But my opinion definitely changed later. The story twisted and turned, and you didn’t know what was coming next. (I did not expect a lesbian subplot!) A beautifully written novel, the atmosphere is immaculate, I enjoyed it so much!
If you like realistic historical settings showing mixing christian and pagan beliefs this book is for you

I’ll start with the positives, because I have no doubt lots of people will love this novel! I thought the cover was stunning, and I loved the audio narration - the voices were perfect for the story. The writing is also truly beautiful, and I enjoyed the love story and haunting feel of the story.

Having said that, if it hadn’t been for worrying about my rating on here I would’ve DNF’d this very quickly - I just found it very dull and wasn’t at all engaged with the story or characters sadly. But the writing shows so much promise so I’d definitely try another book by the author given that this was a debut (and I am still sure I’ll be in the minority for not enjoying it!).

I tried to listen to it several time but the narrator isn't for me.
I don't want to rate it badly just because of it so I'll try to read it physically later.
Thank you netgalley for the copy !
