Okay, I love a dark taboo spicy romance but this one was WILD even for me. I’ve never read a medical romance before (at least not one that came with trigger warnings) and I’m leaving this book simultaneously intrigued and also never wanting to see an OBGYN again…

I’ll start with the parts I loved. If you know me, you know I love a possessive and obsessive love interest. Obsessed with her for years? That’s so romantic. Stalking her 24/7? He’s so attentive. I love the “I’ll never let you leave” trope and I love it even more when they really mean it.

The parts I didn’t like so much? Mostly the medical malpractice that I’ll be thinking about at every Pap smear for the rest of my life. I read a lot of messed up stuff and even I had my jaw dropped while reading *those* scenes (you know the ones). I understand it was a taboo romance and actually enjoyed the spice when I kept reminding myself this was all fictional but the idea of something like this existing in the real world is wild. Please, if you are a kinky mofo, do NOT go into gynecology, I beg you.

Severe medical malpractice aside, I really enjoyed this book as something new and unique, and am looking forward to (hopefully) a novel between Parker and Monica?? Please Lexi, I’ll beg.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you Lexi/Melissa for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read your book. I truly enjoyed the fast paced story of Adam and Jessica’s journey to love. The spice right from the jump of the book definitely catches your attention, but as the story progresses it was heartwarming to see how Jessica helped Adam break down his walls and love her the way she deserved. I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure how Adam was going to redeem himself in the end, but the speech he gave really did have me tearing up. The only thing I wish there had been more of was maybe touching on Adam’s past of being bullied..the confrontation with Kent ended up being not as climactic as I expected. Overall this book helped me get out of a reading slump and was such a fun read. I can’t wait for the second book Deeply Desired! (Good reads review is linked below and I will create a TikTok video soon!)

This was my first ever medical romance read, and a really awaited release. I’ll admit it, I wasn’t sure at first how it would go, but I really liked it. I could feel my pulse shoot up as I read this story (for more reasons than one 😉). The little commentary that goes on in Dr. West’s and Jessica’s mind during their little meet-ups is definitely quite entertaining. I really like how we get a little sneak-peek into their past, leaving the readers full of suspense.

I relate so damn much to Adam, and Deeply Examined has grown to become a sort of comfort read for me, because I know I’m not alone in this, I know I’m not broken for feeling the way I feel when I’m in a relationship. When I signed up for this book, I just took it as any other dark romance, but I’d be lying if I said that’s all this book is to me. I’m guilty of being attached to Jessica’s and Adam’s story.

All in all, this is an extremely exciting read, though I’d suggest you go through the trigger list before doing so. The book had me feeling all sorts of emotions, and to be very honest, Adam’s and Jessica’s story is raw, emotional, and so much more. It’s a rocky ride for sure, but one so very worth it. Trust me when I tell you this book is going to tear you apart and then proceed to put the little pieces back together, and you’re gonna be grateful for it.

ARC Review
Deeply Examined: A Dark Medical Romance
Author: Lexi Davis
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

*Please Check Trigger Warnings*
Synopsis: When Jessica meets the dark and mysterious Dr. West at her annual exam, the chemistry between them is undeniable—but what she doesn’t know is that they share a hidden past. When danger forces her into his penthouse, their forbidden attraction deepens, unraveling secrets that could change everything.

This is how every spicy romance should open. I loved the characters. While the book is short the author did a great job of developing the characters and their background stories were touching. There’s plenty of spice but there’s also an actual plot instead of just smut which I enjoyed the most. Also the cliffhanger?!? I can’t wait for it. Monica and Parker would be so much fun together.

Thank you to the author Lexi Davis and NetGalley for approving me as an ARC reader!

Deeply Examined is a steamy and creative medical romance! The relationship between the two leads was fun to follow, and I’m excited to read more of Lexi Davis’ work.

"It's an intriguing take on dark romance, blending forbidden desires in a hospital setting with passionate outdoor encounters, wrapped in mystery and obsession.
Adam is a man with a dark past, one he carefully hides from the world. Despite his troubled history, he overcomes every obstacle to become a successful doctor.
Jessica is a dedicated teacher who cares deeply for underprivileged children. She teaches at the same school where her parents once worked, carrying on their legacy.
When Jessica goes for her annual examination at the hospital, she is unexpectedly assigned to Dr. Adam West. He remembers her from high school—she was the beautiful cheerleader, and he was the shy, nerdy senior who never had the courage to speak to her.
During the examination, an unexpected moment of passion unfolds—Adam gives Jessica an intimate experience that she enjoys but never speaks about. When she returns for a follow-up Pap smear, she is once again assigned to Adam. This time, he brings her to pleasure once more before boldly asking for her number.
Their connection deepens when they meet outside the hospital. Their night together is intense—Adam ties her to the bed, taking full control in ways Jessica thoroughly enjoys. But when she kisses him afterward, it unsettles him. Adam, who never allows himself emotional connections, panics and abruptly leaves.
This marks the beginning of something new—something neither of them expected. Their passion grows, but so does Adam’s obsession. Unlike Fifty Shades of Grey, this story takes a darker turn—Adam watches over Jessica, stalking her from the shadows and eliminating anyone who dares to harm her.
If you enjoy a smooth yet intense dark romance, this book is for you. Get ready for an addictive, thrilling journey that will keep you hooked until the last page!"

Thank you to NetGalley for for ARC of Deeply Examined in exchange for an honest review.

Jessica Jones (I got the reference!) thought she was just in for her regular check up with Dr West, but there was nothing regular about what happened behind the good doctor's closed doors.

Deeply Examined grabbed my attention as self confessed lover of MMC doctors in any romance - gimme a smart and caring man in a white coat any day, yes yes yes. What I perhaps didn't fully anticipate was quite how spicy this would be!

I'll be honest that the start of the book took me a little more by surprise than I expected - there's no wasted time getting in to it. I think sometimes I'd have liked a little more build up and background, for the pace to slow down a little and for a little more reasoning.

I also have to say, Jessica's friends - encouraging her?! They're all insane.

That said, I felt the book got in to it's stride about half way through when we got a bit more plot to balance out and I found the rest of the book easier to get through. The spice is hot and kinky so definitely heed those TWs.

This is definitely one of those books I almost wish was like 150 pages longer just to give it that final umph and knock it up another star rating or so - there's definitely a spark there.

I'd recommend if you're looking for something hot and different, quick and dark!

Firstly, thank you SO much for allowing me to read the e-arc! Secondly, i am LOVING this whole grey’s anatomy dark romance vibe we got going on here. I didn’t even know this was a genre but I am here for it. Spice was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ and I really enjoyed the whole West redemption we seen. I loved how we can see how broken he is and why he is the way he is, it makes us love him a lil bit more. My only complaint (but not really a complaint) is how short it is. I would’ve loved a little bit more story i.e. the proposal or even a time jump so we can see how life is for them a few months/years down the road. However, on the flip side since it is a bit on the shorter side it is a perfect book to get you out of a slump or even something to read when you just need a break between anything longer like fantasy books. Oh, and I hope we get to see a Parker x Monica story! I bet that spice would be hella good too 👀

4.5 stars This is one of the spiciest books I have read. However, I still enjoyed it!! It was an interesting, unique, and spicy take on “Beauty and the Beast”. The only thing is I am not a huge fan of West. I just don’t quite trust him. I got an arc but my opinion is unbiased.

I enjoyed this book! The character/ relationship development was great! It was a new trope for me that I enjoyed diving into! I wish there was more scenes in “the room”. Overall a great and fast paced read!

When Jessica finally goes to her annual physical exam appointment, the last thing she expects is dark haired, gorgeous Dr. West.

This book had me hooked from literally the first word! 😂😂I loved how quickly we got a slight back story from Adam, that made me want to read on! As the book progress we get to see Adam/ West struggles and trauma, I just wanted to hug him tight 😭 one of the spicy scenes was a wowza moment! I blushed so hard 😂❤️ I loved seeing Jess come out of her shell I loved watching her grow into this confident woman and an actual boss! ❤️ this was the first medical romance book I have read and it’s opened my eyes into a whole new world I didn’t think I would enjoy! Yes this book has dark themes however I didn’t find it that dark compared to some books I have read previously ❤️

I loved this so much I devoured it so quickly once I started reading I couldn’t stop. I was enamored by the patient doctor relationship. It was really well written and I can see myself reading reading more from this author in the future.

I will admit that I found the beginning of the book a little strange and bordering on unpleasant. But I love a man possessed so I kept reading. I am glad I continued. The book was really good. A little dark and exciting kinks, I liked the characters and their story. The book was easy to read and the story had a nice flowe. I will definitely read more by this author.

Someone else described this as 50 shades meets Greys Anatomy & it’s exactly that. It’s smutty & fast paced Adam’s character development was really good, because at first I was 100% but I did enjoy how done bad he was for Jess. I did feel like pacing was off a little for me, it’s only a 350 book so thats expected but I feel like another 100 pages would have allowed the plot/romance to develop more.

I am intrigued on Parker & Monica!

Thank you Netgalley & Lexi Davis for sending me an arc copy in exchange for a honest review

Think Grey’s Anatomy meets Fifty Shades. 😏🥵

Deeply Examined — even though it was a slow burn I found that I didn’t want to put it down!!

It’s dark, spicy, has a lot of plot and character development. What more could you want?!

Jessica the FMC is an all warm and sunshine teacher and Adam the MMC is the brooding ambitious doctor with a hidden secret.

Going into Deeply Examined I had high hopes, but it fell a bit flat for me.
The plot itself was interesting and had some good twists, however, there was a low budget-esque feel to it that I couldn't move past.
If you are looking for a basic, quick, smutty read this would fill that spot for sure.

Wow! What a spicy little read! Thank you to Netgalley for the e-arc. This was the perfect palate cleanser between the bigger books I have been reading lately. The characters, the plot, and the spice were amazing!

I ate this book. I read it in less than a day. It was my first time reading a dark romance in a medical setting. Dr. Adam West and teacher Jessica Jones come from a common background, but their lives take two different turns. Their past is explored in the book, and it also explains some of their behaviors.

What started as a routine check up turned into an almost instant romance full of passion and obsession. I didn’t know what to expect about the spicy scenes in that setting but I really liked them. The book combines story, spice, cute moments, and character development.

I didn’t agree with some of the behaviors of West and how he kept things from Jessica. West goes through somewhat “extreme”lengths to protect and keep Jessica. The decision that Jessica makes in the end gave both what they wanted and it fits like they fit with one another.

I also liked how the author explored their pasts, how not everything isn’t as it seems when you are in high school, and how they grew throughout the book.

I am really intrigued to see where the author takes the story of 2 of the secondary characters. And that unexpected epilogue really surprised me.

Thank you Lexi Davis and Hayling Bookstorm Ltd for the ARC Copy. All opinions are my own.

A dark steamy medical romance that started off intense with plot, romance, and character development sprinkled throughout.

Both characters were well-developed and their backstory was nicely woven into the story (especially Adam's history, which was slowly revealed). Jessica is someone who is just meant to be a teacher with the kind heart and passion she has, and I'm so glad that Adam taught her how to have a voice and be more assertive. Adam was so closed up and stoic before Jessica came back into his life and brought more light/life into him. I loved his reasoning for going into obgyn, especially tied in with the way he revealed the story about his past (which was heartbreaking and I just wanted to give him a huge hug). Loved all their soft and sweet tender moments and I hope to see more of this couple in the next Deeply Desired novel.

4.5
