Mari Kim is a pilot. Colin Lockhart is a pilot. They’ve known each other since they were kids. Colin is also her older brother’s best friend. Mari overheard Colin say something about her when she was 17 and has been holding a grudge for years.

Mari, as a 5’1 woman, is feisty, passionate and doesn’t take bullpoop from others.
Colin, at 28, never figured out why his best friend’s younger sister hates him. They used to be friends. Now, she buys the land he had his eyes on and is trying to snatch clients from him. But instead of saying “two can play that game”, he asks her what the heck went wrong between them.

Young adult friends to enemies to lovers (under duress), mostly open communication and a happily ever after ending make this book good.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

There is a reason why Katie Reus is one of the best! This book had it all...romance, suspense, and a great plot. Reading about a female pilot is rare and a treat. This was a good friends, enemies, lovers read, and I look forward to more books in this series!

I liked Mari...

I liked Mari Kim, a one of a kind pilot, pushing forty, independent firebrand. She's fearless and had a crush on Colin, her brother's bf, but has held a grudge for years after overhearing Colin dissing her. Colin has lived a big, full life but wonders "what if" with Mari, since he's moved back to town after the military. He likes her but is clueless as to why she actively dislikes him. They are rival pilots, but Colin is going to stick to her like glue when trouble comes calling for Mari( (which, he is only too happy to do, since she ticks his every box).
Its a good one!
Recommend.

I love the Redemption Harbor world. It's good to escape to when reality is a little too much sometimes.

This is Mari and Colin’s story. What’s better then flying, finding a partner that loves to fly to. But it’s never going to happen because she hates his guts, can you say holding a grudge. Gotta love these Harbor Security guys and gals! Another great read!

Fighting for Mari by Katie Reus

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, emotionally charged Romantic Suspense story with a few laugh-out-loud moments along with some intense danger as you're strongly rooting for this couple to get past their, well, past, then Fighting for Mari should definitely be on your book reading radar. I loved this story so much, and while I might have been rooting for Colin to get past Mari’s attitude toward him, I could see why she held on to that grudge for so long (even if he was clueless about what he did).

Mari and Colin are both accomplished pilots, each owns a company that specializes in personal service, one-person or group flights. For Mari, the competition between them, along with the professional tension, is very strong, very personal. But for this one, they’re going to have to team up before they find the answers as to why Mari is being targeted.

The tension in this story, not only between Colin and Mari, but also with the situation they find themselves in, kept me on edge throughout Fighting for Mari. While I had my suspicions, the actual bad guy came as a bit of a surprise. I love it when that happens. You’ll find answers when you pick this one up - no spoilers here. Yet, if you love a good love story with stubborn people (one who holds a grudge quite well), fast-paced action, a touch of mystery, and definitely danger, then this story is perfect for you.

This title is the sixth in the Redemption Harbor Security series. In my opinion, you could read this one on its own. Anything you’d need to know is included in the story dialogue. However, if it’s possible, I’d recommend going back to the beginning, for it is a riveting series.

I received an e-ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. No promises of a positive review were made. This review reflects my personal opinion of this book, good, bad, or indifferent.

Boy she could hold a grudge. However, she’s come to realise that getting over herself, and letting in her nemesis, just might be a better option.
Mari like other heroines in this series made me laugh. She’s small, but she’s mega feisty. Colin never did know what he did wrong, and despite their differences he’s going to be there for Mari when she needs him.
Loved this read. It has plenty of action, great characters and a villain you least expect

Fighting for Mari was a quick read of less than 200 pages. The book was action packed and full of all the action romance you love!

The story follows Mari, a private pilot, who gets mixed up in a situation that lands her in serious danger. Colin is her brothers best friend and rival private airplane company owner who will not rest until Mari is safe.

I gave this four stars because while I really enjoyed the book I felt the story was really rushed along.
I give this book 2/5 spice rating. Theres a few open door scenes but nothing crazy.

Tropes:
Rival to lovers
Brothers best friend
Forced Proximity

Thank you to Katie Reus, Net Galley and Victory Editing for the opportunity to read this book.

I love an enemies to lovers story and Fighting for Mari was a great one! Way back when Mari Kim was in high school, she overheard her older brother's best friend talking about her and has held a grudge for years. Her family says that no one can hold on to a grudge like she can. So it's now over two decades later and Colin Lockhart still gets under Mari's skin. They're both successful pilots that have competing businesses and no matter how much Colin tries to get Mari to talk to him, she keeps her distance. When Mari's life is threatened, Colin takes it upon himself to keep Mari safe. Working with her friends from Redemption Harbor Security, a plan is set for Colin to shadow Mari until things are deemed safe. Too bad that things go awry for Colin and Mari and now they're both trying to stay safe! As they spend more time together and get to know each other as adults, real feelings are brought to the surface. Will they survive to find out if they can have a real relationship? Fighting for Mari was a lot of fun. It stands alone however you will get to see lots for Redemption Harbor Security team members throughout the story. It was told from dual POV and had lots of action, laughs and a bit of heat.

Mari has quite the chip on her shoulder, and she holds a mean grudge. For years and years kind of grudge. She takes comments wrong. She is abrasive. A woman can be assertive and stand up for herself without being a jerk.

I had a hard time getting invested with this book because Mari is the kind of person I avoid. Eventually I came to tolerate her, but if I were Colin, those red flags would have kept me away from a relationship in real life. Fortunately for the plot, he was into her big time. Enough to make him wonder what he was missing in life when he was around her.

The plot is characteristically tight, as one would expect from Katie Reus. The story is a good one, with drugs getting the DEA involved. The romance- well, already discussed. For the first time ever, I’m rating a Reus book at four stars. Authors need to encourage readers to pay attention to red flags and not excuse them or make them seem romantic.

I love, romantic suspense novels. They are probably one of my favorite genres that I read. What I look for in them is suspense, intrigue, passion, the hunt. I want a story that grabs me from the beginning and keeps me going throughout. Never letting me go keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what’s going to happen next and who’s going to win. Who is the bad guy or bad guys. What motivates them to come after the hero and heroine. And is the author really going to be able to wrap up this intense, fast paced novel before the end of the book without it seeming rushed.

In Fighting for Mari, Reus meets all my expectations and then some. She tells a story about a pilot, which I have never had the pleasure to read about that kept me interested throughout the whole story. Giving us different facts that I would’ve never learned just on my own. She gives us a tight story of twists and turns that started out slow. In fact, it was at the beginning i didn’t know where it was going to go. I was like is this really a romantic suspense? But then it leapt off the page and i was like holy crap this is a romantic suspense and off to the races it ran. Giving a full throttle, action packed edge, of your seat suspense until the very end. I figured out who the bad guy was close to the end of the book, but I didn’t know the why. When we learned the why, I was floored. I didn’t see it coming! Crazy good book by Katie Reus.

I received an ARC of #fightingformari from #netgalley in lieu of my honest opinion about the book.

Wow, can Mari hold a grudge? I enjoyed this story very much. It's a brother's best friend protector book, which is one of my favourite kinds. The interactions between characters, not just Colin and Mari, is beautifully depicted. There was a little twist in there which was lovely.

This was one of my favorites of the series so far.

Mari and Colin have a complicated relationship. They've known each other since they were young and Colin is her brother's best friend. Mari had a crush on Colin growing up until she overheard him saying some hurtful things about her. Since then it's been game on between the two going as far as them being business competitors. Colin always continued to be attracted to Mari, not realizing the reason for their rift and when he finds out that she is in danger, he would to anything to protect her.

I had heard of Mari in the other books and was so excited for her story and this did not disappoint. I loved the friends to enemies to lovers trope. I think it added some of that tension between characters that I really enjoy in romance. Both characters were capable and intelligent and I think the story also had a great balance between the suspense and romance aspects.

Thank you to Netgalley and Katie Reus for an e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was not the best written, nor the best story line...but if you have two hours to kill and need to break a reading slump, this may do it. This suspense with a hint of romance follows Mari and Colin. both pilots, both tied through Mari's brother and both in love with each other and running from danger.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing Co-Op for the ARC opportunity.

She's a woman who can hold a grudge

Contract pilot Mari Kim used to have a big crush on her brother's best friend Colin Lockhart back when she was a teenager, until the day she overheard him spreading a nasty rumor about her behind her back. Since then he has been enemy number one, especially since he has now left the military and started up a business similar to her own in the area. When he steals a potential customer from her, she goes ahead and buys up a piece of property that he has his eye on...all is fair, after all. Colin meanwhile has no clue why Mari hates him so much; she's pretty much his ideal woman, so he's thinking its about time he found out why she is so hostile towards him. When someone starts targeting Mari for unknown reasons, it is Colin who is on hand to save her life...more than once. With the help of Mari's friends from Redemption Harbor Security, she and Colin have to stay one step ahead of someone who wants her removed from the playing board. Is it the jerk of a new client behind the attacks (and she hopes it is, because she can't think of any other possible suspects)? What does he or whoever is behind the campaign to eliminate her think she knows? And how is she going to keep herself from falling in love with Colin, which she is sure is wrong on so many levels?
Fighting for Mari is the sixth and latest in author Katie Reus' Redemption Harbor Security series, where smart and feisty women pair up with equally intelligent and strong willed men to take care of the clients who hire them and, when needed, one another. Mari and Colin each have their reasons for having avoided relationships up until this point in their life, and Mari has used Colin's long ago transgression to keep from having to acknowledge her real feelings for him. Colin is a little further ahead in his awareness of the attraction between them, but egos and rusty (possibly non-existent) relationship building skills cause them more than a few bumps along the road to happily ever after. The author's new passion for aviation figures into the plot line here, giving a new interest for the characters in this tale. While it wasn't super difficult to figure out who the bad guy/girl was, it was still a fun read. Fans of the author in general and this series in particular, as well as readers of Rebecca Zanetti, Alexandra Ivy and Susan Stoker will enjoy this bit of romantic suspense. My thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for allowing me access to the novel in exchange for my honest review.
