With thanks and gratitude to Netgalley & Head of Zeus Audiobooks for this ELC in return for an open, honest review... ππΌπ§
When I read the book description this really captured my interest and it definitely was an enjoyable listen particularly the first half to 3/4 of the audiobook however somewhere in between that stage I found myself get a little lost in the amount of characters.
Due to this being set as a movie plot, there are many characters, and following all of them and the number of different angles this story takes is a little bewildering at times. I think it would actually work well as a movie/drama of sorts just a little more difficult to follow for some moments.
It was something very different to anything else, although I'd say it still falls under psychological thriller it's also quite dramatic and full of a lot of detail. The accents can vary as far as the narration goes. However, this is also part of the story, but I felt it went further than just Ellie, who was supposed to have different accents... Overall, an enjoyable listen very movie type feels, which, given the plot and storyline it fulfils its scope!
Wishing the author Rachel Wolf and publishers best wishes for publication on 8th May 2025 ππ§β€οΈ

I listened to the audiobook version of this story. I got into it quite quickly, I was invested and liked the fact Ellie was pretending to be Phoebe. Although slightly far fetched, they made it work.
It got to the point where there was so many twists that I wasn't actually sure what was happening. I much preferred the first 3/4 of the book I'd say.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank to NetGalley, Publishers and Author for this ARC.
A location / destination thriller. One of my favourite types for a bit of escapism. That said, with this book it was not so much escapism as needing the ability to suspend any element of reality.
The premise of this book is very good, I felt it just tried a bit too hard to be unsolvable. The initial 'twist' was quite obvious fairly early on and that could have led to an enjoyable plotting. So many twists, turns and murders over the course of a few days though led ( for me) into slightly farce like territory.
For all of this it is still an enjoyable listen if you take it with a very large pinch of salt.

unorthodox fashion. I was swept along as she met her costars and boarded the flight, overhearing a murder plot had me hooked and I needed to find out just exactly what was going on with this movie.
Then along came the first big twist, and I was drawn deeper into the story, the deception pricked my attention and I enjoyed the unravelling of the story, unfortunately at this stage it all became a bit too unbelievable, I made the grave mistake of trying to apply logic, and from there the story sort of lost a bit of interest for me. There was twist after twist after twist, and I have to be honest, Iβd usually love that, it was just a bit too much.
Where the novel gains points is definitely in its originality, I donβt recall ever reading anything quite like it.
So nearly a 4. 3.5 π
I enjoyed the audio narration by Alexandra Boulton although there were some issues with accents, which was actually understandable.
Huge thanks to Head of Zeus Audiobooks via NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC π§

Oh, what tangled webs we weave... with Sun Trap being an intricate and ideal example. A fabulous listen that will have you never quite knowing what is going to happen next and eager to find out. The desert may be deserted, but it can still be deadly.
