A junior breakdown of the main sciences – chemistry, physics and biology. It's highly pictorial and built from snippets of wording, but it's not completely dumbed-down – this still has the full periodic table, and few books for audiences younger than this would be able to justify having it. And of course it skips around from subject to subject, touching on other things such as climatology, but not getting too far in the way of the other books in this attractive set. Yes, it does cover the physics of Earth's magnetic pole, the same as the 'The World' volume, but not to the detriment of either. Both can remain a healthy four stars, then.

This is a brilliant book for kids who are curious about the world around them. It covers a wide range of science topics in a clear, simple way that’s easy for young readers to understand. The illustrations and photos really help explain things and keep it fun.
I liked that it’s not overwhelming and has just enough info to spark curiosity without being too complicated. It is perfect for early readers or as a school resource. If you want a friendly introduction to science for kids, this book is a great choice and it will be perfect to read with my eldest daughter as she starts school in September
